Marlins place OF Jeremy Hermida, RHP Carlos Martinez on DL

OF Matt Cepicky selected, RHP Randy Messenger recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins today announced they have placed outfielder Jeremy Hermida (right hip flexor) and right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez (right elbow strain) on the 15-day disabled list. The Club selected outfielder Matt Cepicky and recalled righthanded pitcher Randy Messenger from Triple-A Albuquerque. The announcements were made by Marlins Executive Vice President and General Manager Admin Beinfest.

Hermida, 22, has missed the last five games and is placed on the disabled list retroactive to April 12. He has batted .250 in six games this season. Martinez, 23, is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in six games this season. He pitched yesterday against the Washington Nationals, allowing one earned run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

Cepicky, 28, batted .324 with one home run and six RBI in 10 games with Albuquerque. He hit .211 (8x38) with one home run and six RBI in 22 games during Spring Training, and was re-assigned to minor league camp on March 29. Cepicky has played parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos and Washington Nationals, batting a combined .222 with four home runs and 21 RBI in 80 games. He saw action in 11 games last season with the Nationals, hitting .240 (6x25) with three RBI. He was signed by the Marlins as a free agent on Dec. 9, 2005.

Messenger, 24, was on the Marlins' Opening Day roster, after going 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA (9 ER / 12.0 IP) in 11 games during Spring Training. He was optioned to Albuquerque on April 4, and went 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in four games at Triple-A. Messenger went 0-0 with a 5.35 ERA (22 ER / 37.0 IP) in 29 games with the Marlins last season. He was selected by the Marlins in the 11th round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft.

Really pissed off to see Mesenger with the club, guys plain out stinks! Do we not have a LF RP in AAA?? We have NO Lefty in the bullpen! We could have used him against Church yesterday.. One of many occasions why you need a Lefty in the pen... Unheard of in Baseball that you dont have a Lefty in the pen!

so i take it this means abercrombie and reed are both still up with the big club.

Keep at it Reg

It seemed to work out all right in 2003

:whistle

We have 5 LHP on the 40 man roster, and 3 of them are up right now. Have to knock someone off if you want Tankersly or Juilenal. Pinto and Bostick are the other 2 LHP that are on the 40 man, I wouldn't of minded seeing Bostick get a shot.
