April 29, 200620 yr no send them off i never see asian or italians or even swedish illegals protesting !! why is that>??? Because there are about six of them. There are actually a good number of Chinese illegal aliens.
May 1, 200620 yr http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/01/us/01imm...artner=homepage 2 pager I think the reactions of these company and business owners are so indicative of the problem with keeping these people illegal. Without them (and those who support them), it wouldn't be business as usual. And I think it's hilarious that they are basically 'begging' these people to come to work, when the whole point of this mass demonstration is to prove that they really ARE needed. Changes must be made, reforms must be passed. Amnesty is closer now for the majority of the 11 million than it has been at any time in recent history. In my opinion (which is limited in knowledge, at best), this issue will not die and a bill will be passed for those living here.
May 1, 200620 yr Employers seem to be supporting the workers a lot. It's in America's business interests to legalize these hard working people.
May 1, 200620 yr Employers seem to be supporting the workers a lot. It's in America's business interests to legalize these hard working people. Simple reason...employers don't have to pay illegals anywhere near what legal Americans would make. They love this source of seemingly endless cheap labor coming over the border every day.

Many industries such as the Agriculture industry rely on cheap labor. Do you wanna pay $5.00 a pound for tomatoes?
May 1, 200620 yr seems to be business as usual here in phoenix pretty arrogant to think keeping 100,000 people home will shut down a city of 5,000,000
May 1, 200620 yr seems to be business as usual here in phoenix pretty arrogant to think keeping 100,000 people home will shut down a city of 5,000,000 they haven't started the protests yet. it's not going to shut down the city, but it's meant to show how important these workers are to the economy. last week i took my clothes in to be dry cleaned and asked if they could get it done by today, but they said that it would be better to wait until tuesday because they didn't think they'd have any workers that day. several businesses have shut down for the day.
May 1, 200620 yr it is approaching 11 am here, although the formal marching and all that hasn't started - the stay at home part has - and aside from a slightly easier commute, life is pretty much the same - was able to buy gas this morning, park my car, get into the office, our cleaning staff is here, security is here, even the canadian on a work visa is here (as he is vehemently against illegal immigration), tonight I will buy groceries and there won't be a problem this will have minimal impact face it, everyone is replaceable - myself included this move reeks of arrogance and will win zero support in the general public
May 1, 200620 yr Everyone thought the previous rallies would win zero support in public, but that turned out to be not true. The fact that the rallies are peaceful and positive will be attractive to a lot of Americans that may already empathize a little bit with the immigrants. Also, Phoenix was not expected to have a humongous number of people participating. LA and Chicago are the cities that were expected to have massive crowds. From the look of things on CNN, Chi-Town is representing to the max already and they're not supposed to really get going until a little later on. I expect to see 500K in LA. Many of my friends in the LA are just now leaving their homes to go to the rallies. If only a quarter of all Hispanics in this country participate in this thing, that's almost 10 million people. I think it's going to have a big impact. And employers are supportive of this, for the most part. The business community wants this thing done. It's the xenophobes that are totally against it.
May 1, 200620 yr businesses don't want the golden goose to go away - they aren't the ones compensating for cheap labor with their taxes
May 1, 200620 yr businesses don't want the golden goose to go away - they aren't the ones compensating for cheap labor with their taxes and you are? :lol
May 1, 200620 yr Right. Actually, you're wrong about that. The majority of illegal immigrants pay income taxes. There is a misconception that all illegal immigrants get paid under the table and therefore don't pay taxes. Nothing could be further from the truth. The vast majority use fake documents - social security cards, residency cards, ID's, etc. Then companies pay them using that information - and specifically social security numbers - and thus extract whatever taxes from their income and pay the federal government (and state and local government, where applicable). However, having used a fake social security number, they are unable to file their taxes at the end of the year. Therefore, they don't get any refunds that they may be entitled to. In addition, they pay into the social security system, but they can never get the benefits because they used someone else's numbers in the first place. Fortunately, the federal government instituted a program a few years ago that gives taxpayer identification numbers to anyone that wants one so that illegal aliens could pay their taxes. Many people have gotten this number and paid their taxes because that makes it more likely for them to gain permanent residency. In addition, they keep down the cost of many items - so what you might pay in higher taxes you get back in lower prices in a bunch of things. Finally, illegal immigrants are not eligible for public benefits in most states. They can't get welfare and other services. The only things they are eligible for are going to public school (and this applies only to children under 18) and emergency medical care. Would you really want all those kids to not go to school? If so, you're pretty stupid and heartless.
May 1, 200620 yr The McDonalds by me are pretty much closed because a majority of their workers are Mexican :lol

May 1, 200620 yr The McDonalds by me are pretty much closed because a majority of their workers are Mexican :lol Then the world's over. I've yet to see any serious stoppage. The MTA strike was more crippling to Manhattan/New York than this walk-out.
May 1, 200620 yr too bad emergency medical care can be just a common cold - which is compensated by me, let alone clog up the emergency rooms for those who have legit problems also there are programs out there that work with illegals to get their refunds if they are actually paying taxes and many are paid under the table - hence the reason why they keep prices down - if it was just a matter of minimum wage, businesses wouldn't care who did it - there would be no incentive to hire illegals and we all know that this is false not to mention the illegals who don't have licenses, car insurance, etc - i love living in one of the highest auto insurance rate states and where is the exposure in AZ for auto rates?! - stolen cars used by illegals or the transportion of illegals and uninsured motorists (the majority of which are illegals) - but hey, i saved $0.30 grapes, so it's all good
May 1, 200620 yr Folks, the ones who are organizing this aren't immigrants. They are led by Marxist-nationalist, anti-American groups such as ANSWER and MeCha! And it's on May Day, a Marxist holiday. Think about that for a second.

May 1, 200620 yr Heh, the only thing that sucks is I haven't gotten my mail yet and have been expecting orders from both Amazon and Ebay today. BOOTY!
May 1, 200620 yr actually yes they do - i've unfortunately had to make a few trips with family members the past few years to the emergency room over things that would be classified an emergency condition and there were people there with very minor, normal injuries - why? because they don't have insurance and can't go to a local doctor - they do know that they cannot be turned away from the emergency room, so they go there and mass legalization without doing something to prevent flow and develop assimilation does nothing to correct the problem here in maricopa county any person who wants to work in a food related industry has to get a license to do so - basically pass a test - why? in an effort to train illegals and/or newly emigrated people on how to handle food - i had to take this test and it was pure common sense stuff - but the problem of the cultural differences makes it necessary to impose this extra expense and bureacracy upon people i have no problems with immigration - i actually believe there should be a measure where people can get legalized more smoothly - i believe that with the current situation, there needs to be another one time exemption backed with some serious reform in border control, employment control, etc - i also believe that pure amnesty is an affront to all those who are currently doing things the correct way, despite the complications - I also believe that people who come into this country illegally have no hand to tell legal citizens how they should be treated, we need not cater to those who aren't here legally
