Schwarzenegger wants two NFL teams in Los Angeles area

GRAPEVINE, Texas ? (AP) ? California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Tuesday he wants

the NFL to return to the Los Angeles area ? with two teams.

After meeting with a group of NFL owners, Schwarzenegger said he was there to make

sure "we're getting not only one NFL team to the Los Angeles area, Southern California,

but to actually get two teams. That's why I came. Why limit it?''

NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue and a committee of 11 owners met to hear proposals

from Los Angeles and Anaheim. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Anaheim Mayor

Curt Pringle were there to make separate presentations but joined the governor for a

joint session.

"There enough room and enough audience to have two teams,'' Schwarzenegger said.

"We just have to all work together and make it happen.''

Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest television market, has been without an NFL

team since the Raiders and Rams both left after the 1994 season. When the NFL expanded

in 2002, the new team went to Houston after Los Angeles leaders couldn't agree on a

suitable site for the team.

Tagliabue, who is retiring in July, has long made it a priority to get a franchise

back in Los Angeles.

The owners' committee, which includes Dan Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jerry

Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Bob Kraft of the New England Patriots, planned to hear

stadium proposals from the Anaheim and Los Angeles officials. The cost estimates of $800

million are considerably higher than previous price tags.

Anaheim's plan calls for a new facility near Angels Stadium, which was converted to a

baseball-only complex after the Rams left. The NFL team and the Los Angeles Angels had

shared the stadium.

The Los Angeles plan is to construct a stadium inside the existing Los Angeles

Coliseum, home to the Rams from 1946-70 and the Raiders from 1982-94.

The NFL owners' group won't make any decisions on the proposals during their meeting

at a Dallas-Fort Worth Airport hotel. Instead, the group will make a presentation at the

league's spring meetings in Denver, scheduled May 22-24.

After Schwarzenegger and the two mayors emerged from a 10-minute meeting with the

owners, the governor chatted in the hallway with Jones, the Cowboys' owner.

The governor returned to Los Angeles immediately afterward. The individual

presentations by the cities were later in the day.

Move the Jags out there so I can see all the Dolphins games. LA needs to just build a stadium so an NFL team can move right in instead of playing in the POS Olympic Stadium for a half a decade until a real stadium is built. Get it done, NFL and California.

Jags, I think you guys are great, but GTFO.

Two of the Saints, Jaguars, Bills, Vikings, Raiders (again) or Colts could eventually move out there, but I'd like to see L.A. support one team before granting them two.

If the Bills move I, along with most of Western N.Y., will probably commit mass homicide.

I think the bills are one of the most likely teams unfortunately. I would hate to lose them from the AFC East. I love the rivalry with the Bills dolphins. I look forward to those games even when good or bad for both teams. It is a tradition you know?

But if one of the teams move, Jacksonville, buffalo seem two choices I think.

Indy, Jets, Pats, Miami again?

The Saints wont move for a while now.

Arnold is on drugs obviously.

Los Angeles is probably at the top of the list for one team.

San Antonio is probably #2

Agreed.

There's a reason the first two teams left.

Anyways, anyone who thinks there's a snowballs chance in hell of Indy moving, I have a bridge to sell you.

nah, the Jags should move to San Antonio. They should have been here from the start :whistle

Chargers look very nearly gone from San Diego, so they're a good possibility to move to LA. They probably don't want to. I don't think any owner but Davis WANTS to move to LA, but they all want someone else to :p

The first two teams left because the stadium was/is a piece of garbage, it seats 100,000 people and if you don't get 100,000 people in the seats, the game is blacked out so people can't watch. The lack of people able to watch the games hurt the owners' bottom line so they left. It's not likely that LA can fill up a 100,000 seat stadium that frequently, but I guarantee they could easily sell out a 70,000 seat stadium.

I would rather see the Saints or Jags move. Jags havent been around for a while and the saints have always been terrible.

I believe the colts just signed a deal to get a new stadium so they wont be moving. Same with the vikings.

In fact, the Colts are already building the new Lucas Oil Stadium now. Right next to the RCA Dome. Think they started building just before the start of the season.

Just go to Colts.com and its there at the bottom of the page.

The Bills aren't going anywhere at least until Ralph Wilson dies.

And that could be any second. The poor guy barely remembers his own name. Some of the interviews you hear on the radio with him are disturbing, he'll talking about how he can't understand the CBA (completely ridiculous) and will stop mid sentence because he forgot what he was he talking about.

The Bills would be one of the top candidates to move, they're asking for financial help from New York State.
