Posted May 17, 200618 yr COMINGS AND GOINGS The Marlins will be without reliever Matt Herges on Friday. Herges received permission to return to South Florida following Thursday's game and spend the day with his wife, Jane, and hospitalized newborn. Herges will return Saturday. ... Recently demoted left-hander Jason Vargas will make his first start for Triple-A Albuquerque Thursday against Las Vegas. Sun-Sent.com Why not just release him or something. He is probably worried about his child and its effecting him on the mound. :banghead It also looks like they made a mistake. Yesterdays game was Wednesday.
May 17, 200618 yr That would be sweet of the Marlins. :plain Release the guy when his baby son is very sick. Good thinking. :plain

May 17, 200618 yr Author Hope everything works out for the Herges family, unfortunate situation. What happen to his newborn? I remember someone saying something about it but I forgot. I hope everything turns out okay :thumbup .
May 17, 200618 yr I feel bad for Herges and really hope his baby will be ok... but sympathy alone doesnt make me believe he should continue to be on this team. Releasing him to be with his wife and child works out for both parties, he's no longer here and he's where he belongs with his family.

May 17, 200618 yr I don't know if they CBA allows for some type of absense that would allow the Marlins to keep the rights to Herges while he took a leave, so to open up a roster spot. Anyone know?
May 17, 200618 yr Author I don't know if they CBA allows for some type of absense that would allow the Marlins to keep the rights to Herges while he took a leave, so to open up a roster spot. Anyone know? Thats exactly what I meant. I didn't know how to explain it.
May 17, 200618 yr I don't know if they CBA allows for some type of absense that would allow the Marlins to keep the rights to Herges while he took a leave, so to open up a roster spot. Anyone know? I beleive there is a bereavement list for situations like tihs. Bonds went on it a year or two ago because of his father. I don't beleive there is a set time for it like the D-L, so Herges can leave and come back whenever he needs.
May 17, 200618 yr I thought they said his son was better? Hope he's okay... HERGES EXCUSED Reliever Matt Herges won't be with the Marlins on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Devil Rays. He said he has received permission to return to South Florida and be with his infant son, Bryce, who has remained in an induced coma since his delivery May 1 because of an infection. Herges said doctors are slowly bringing the baby out of the coma and are hopeful the pitcher and his wife, Jane, can hold the baby for the first time since the delivery. ''I don't want to miss that,'' Herges said. Herges said he expects to re-join the Marlins on Saturday in St. Petersburg. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/14595545.htm Sounds like he's going to be OK.
May 17, 200618 yr hes been in and out wit this, a leave of longer absense would suit him better totally agree... may be affecting his pitching
