If pedro goes down as I think he might for a while. Any chance the marlins make a run at the Mets for the division? I feel bad for anyone hurt, but he got hurt at our place.

 

 

BOSTON -- After all of the attention focused this spring on Pedro Martinez's aching big toe, it appears that the bigger concern is the pitcher's right hip, which required a cortisone shot more than a month ago.

 

Martinez told the Boston Herald before Wednesday's game that he received the shot, and general manager Omar Minaya confirmed the report yesterday. Apparently, the hip has been a problem since last season, and Martinez aggravated the condition when he slipped on the wet clubhouse floor at Dolphins Stadium during his May 26 start against the Marlins.

The Mets would have to go into a serious slide.

 

Their pitching would have to completely implode. If Pedro went down long term then I don't think it's out of the question, but I think they still have too much talent for a collapse.

Short answer: No.

 

With or without Pedro, the Mets are by far the best team in the NL. Glavine is pitching like an ace and even the Cardinals don't match their talent. That said, we should be chasing the Mets and have the goal of winning the division - that's the only way we can make a run at the wild card with that many teams bunched in there.

 

Also hope for the Phillies to fall further out of it so they trade guys like Abreu away. Soriano may be gone from the Nats and Smoltz from the Braves as well, meaning some 27 (+/-) games against three severely weakened division rivals to pile wins on.

no way..they have too much of an offense and have too much of a lead on us at this point.

Mets are a 100 win team. Don't think we can compete with that or we wouldn't lose that badly in April/mid May. It the wild card we should concentrate. It a wild shot but you never know. There just still so many teams ahead of us, it is very possible any one of them will catch fire.

A run at the division is just in the cards for this team this year. Maybe a year or two down the line, but not this year.

When it comes to the Mets being sucky we shouldn't worry about trying to catch them so much as the fact we play them 14 more times.

The good thing for us in terms of making a run at the division rather than the WC is that we still have tons of games left against the Mets (13), including a very big 4 game set just before the break (with a double header in the middle)

 

We're 9 back in the loss column...So if we can somehow take the remainder of the season series 9-4, we're only 4 games back in the loss column. This is not entirely likely, but with the way we're playing I wouldn't put it past the team.

Actually it's the folks at the stadium that need to get their sh*t together. Their logo says Dolphin Stadium but their web site is Dolphinsstadium.com and they have tons of content on it that calls it Dolphins Stadium including their copyright notice at the bottom.

I dont give a damn about the Mets.

I don't know. It is the Mets custom to go into that late season melt down. Until one year they don't I am just going to expect it to happen. But the youth on our team will be a factor. The length of the season, the heat, and the humidity I fully expect to take a toll on them. I think one or two more off season conditioning programs and we are right in there. But then I look at where we are now and where we were in mid May and just shake my head in awe. Nothing would surprise me right now.
