July 3, 200620 yr Kind of off-topic. But Stephen Colbert isn't funny. Nor is Jon Stewart. So overrated. Stephen Colbert is lucky Steve Carrell left when he did. Colbert is the luckiest man in Hollywood in that he was next in line at the right time.
July 3, 200620 yr I just get sick of how, let's say college students, feel that they must find those guys funny to be an "educated" person. But yeah, I don't like what most "college students" do to fit a certain mold. I'll stop right there, because this is way off-topic.

Which is ignorant. I think Colebert is okay, Stewart's funnier on the Daily Show than anything else he's done. But, I don't watch either of them. I prefer Olbermann for laughs in my news journalism.

Huh? Ignorant? Ok? Notice the exclamation points...try to tell me that there aren't those people out there. You know, the ones that are smarter than you because they laugh at the daily show. The ones that try to fit a certain mold so hard that it's almost laughable. If you say there isn't, then you haven't been to a college campus. That or you're one of those, perhaps?

I have been to a college campus. It's not a Jell-O mold. For every one dude you're talking about there's 50 different types of people who act in an entirely opposite and different way. There's the jock who doesn't even know what the Daily Show is, the alchoholic who caught it at a bar one time, the stoney who watches Half Baked every night around the time the Daily Show comes on. All I'm saying is, you can't say "everyone" it's ridiculous. Only someone who is ignorant (or a Sith Lord) deals in absolutes.

I was referring to the group in which I was referring to. But yeah, those shows aren't funny.
July 3, 200620 yr Oh come on. Both of those shows are hilarious. Nope. Why not? You haven't presented any good arguments to the contrary yet.

I'll respect your opinion(because different people find different things funny). But you sure part of your dislike isnt based on personal politics. That would be understandable. But Colbert is pretty damn good with satire and you would have to argue that satire isn't funny to say he isn't funny.
July 3, 200620 yr Oh come on. Both of those shows are hilarious. Nope. Why not? You haven't presented any good arguments to the contrary yet. I'm not going to present any good arguments to the contrary, because that would be pointless. Finding something funny is simply based on your sense of humor. I feel that these shows aren't funny, just as I felt that Friends was the biggest piece of sh*t sitcom on TV. I do find it funny how easy it is to ruffle people's feathers in this forum though, basically by saying I didn't find any humor in a show that is based on comedy.
July 3, 200620 yr You know the best thing I saw Colbert do? That presidential banquet where everyone was too afraid to laugh. Because he did some consider "edgy" and critical material and he did it right in the man's face. And you could tell the room was split in two, there were people who didn't get it and there were the people who were afraid to laugh. Other than that, I don't really follow the guy. But that took guts.

I just don't ever get anything out of these shows. Perhaps I shouldn't have even brought this up. The thing about the certain college kids trying to fit in, I meant that %100.
July 3, 200620 yr You could say the same thing about people on this board, or people in general. That fitting in thing happens everywhere.

But that took guts. Not really. Pretty much a lose-lose situation for the President if he tried to say anything, react differently then he did, or do anything to stand up for himself.
July 3, 200620 yr You could say the same thing about people on this board, or people in general. That fitting in thing happens everywhere. Yes. And I dislike it. I can understand it, I'm sure some of the things I do are to fit in. I wear current clothes styles, but I don't feel that I'm a more educated or enlightened person because of this.

Yeah, well, you say that about college kids as if it's exclusive to them. What about people who give tons to art musuems but never set foot inside of one? Or, better yet don't even understand what their money goes towards? I mean, New York aesthete's are guilty of the same thing, but I don't hear you calling them out. I could care less anyways, I'm of the opinion 95% of people are lame.
July 3, 200620 yr Those people suck too. A lot of people suck. Especially the "fake" ones. There, I called them out.

So, you're saying it was easy to go up there and do that in front of a partisan crowd, in front of the most powerful man in the country and let alone the fact that the audience wasn't laughing at all and yet he just kept on (trust me, when you're doing comedy and the laughs aren't coming it's tough to keep going)? I'm not talking about Bush and his response, I'm talking about Colbert and his actions; plus, and this is preference, the material was just great satire.
July 3, 200620 yr It's not hard when you know you aren't going to be getting a negative reaction because they have everything to lose in the situation, and you have nothing to lose.
July 3, 200620 yr It's not hard when you know you aren't going to be getting a negative reaction because they have everything to lose in the situation, and you have nothing to lose. I totally disagree. And there was NO way to know what kind of reactiong he'd get. He could have gotten hated on. Some idiot could have come up and ripped the mic out of it's housing and beat him with it. Cheney could have shot him (obvious joke). But to say he knew there wasn't going to be any kind of negative reactiong, I disagree. Not unless he has a hell of a tarot reader. You think Chris Rock would have done his Clinton bits at a party like this, while standing next to him?
July 3, 200620 yr I wonder who's alter-ego this is. I first thought Das, because he quadruple spaces every paragraph, but I figured this jackasses views were too extreme for Das, so i'm thinking Buckeye. I'm surprised Accord hasnt made an appearance yet.... I was at the movies seeing Keeping Up With The Steins... great movie. Liberals hate America You said it Miss Statue not me. We do not believe liberals hate America we just like saying it because we believe if we keep saying it enough then eventually it will be true so there will be no reason for us to think it anymore, it will be fact. Now Miss Statue it has occured to me that you are pushing how many years old now and you have had how many jobs? Yes Miss Statue you are nothing but a MOOCHER of this great land. You are what is wrong with this nation Miss Statue. You do not work rather you just stand around, milling, liking that people look at you yet you have no plans to get a job or to pay taxes or anything like that. No Miss Statue you just expect us to use our tax dollars to clean you and keep you pretty. How would you think the great people of this land had to start paying the bill for our actresses and tv personalities to keep themselves pretty just because. Damn straight they wouldn't like it. I tell you what Miss Statue, find yourself a job and start taking better care of yourself because honestly you look as old as you are and at your age that is not a good thing. So some may call you Statue of Liberty, I call you Statue of what is wrong with this nation. holy crap, this battle of the alter-ego's is fantastic :lol . That was a different kind of liberal, Miss Torch. Thanks for playing though. You're right. All the libeal idealogy is a total 180 from those same ideals seen in the late 18th century. The 'liberal' that Washington was speaking of was in fact the liberal ideology, of which the country is founded on. This most commonly referred to as classical liberalism, which is today followed most closely by the Liberitarian party. Not to be confused with modern liberalism, which emerged later on (people debate whether it arouse with the rise of socialism in the 1800s or not, but it was first seen in the US in 1932 when FDR was elected). In fact, when Washington was alive, the two parties were neither liberal nor conservative. They were Democractic Republicans (not to be confused with Democrats, that was Jackson) and Federalists (later to be replaced by Whigs). I'm a Libertarian! *runs around pumping fist* I really am. :lol you are absolutely not a libertarian, you're a hardcore far left liberal whether you acknowledge it or not. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... Meh, I would say there's "bad guys" on both sides who have forgotten some core values this country was built on. You can find a vocal extremist almost anywhere these days, and they're the ones usually getting the most press and tv time. what you have to do is take a look at the various parties, eliminate the radicals of each party and then you have what the party really stands for. Gotta love how you have a nice makeup of those very radials on this very site. Its so awesome. My favorite part about this game is that while the mud is being slung, both parties forget about thier damn responsiblities and thats to the American people and in the end we all suffer. Good job! PS. Thats probably why I hate the power structure now, because the Republicans in charge are from that radical branch of the Republican party. I just noticed your new avatar, very nice. That's pretty bad ass how a kid's signature image can boil so much blood. :lol Seriously.
