In fact, when Washington was alive, the two parties were neither liberal nor conservative. They were Democractic Republicans (not to be confused with Democrats, that was Jackson) and Federalists (later to be replaced by Whigs).

Thanks for the history lesson. The ideals and thoughts behind which Washington spoke and other great people of that era are definitely parts of the foundation of liberalism today. Way to totally miss the point.

The conservatives have forgotten many of the founding principles of this nation anyway in recent history, which leads you to believe that liberals have a better understanding of what the founding fathers intended for the future of this nation recently.

Meh, I would say there's "bad guys" on both sides who have forgotten some core values this country was built on. You can find a vocal extremist almost anywhere these days, and they're the ones usually getting the most press and tv time.

what you have to do is take a look at the various parties, eliminate the radicals of each party and then you have what the party really stands for.
