Eleven months after pulling out from Gaza, Israel continued its wide-scale military operation in the region yesterday.

Twenty-four people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed yesterday in the operation launched last week in retaliation for the abduction of an Israeli soldier.

Operation ?Summer Rain? was changed to ?Gilad Sword? in honor of the kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Yesterday was bloodiest day in Palestine since the Israeli attack on the Han Yunus refugee camp in October 2004.

Monitoring the region by helicopter after the murder of an Israeli soldier in clash with Hamas, the Israeli army hit the region of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, killing six civilians and leaving dozens wounded.

Addressing the Palestinian people, the Hamas administration called for resistance to Israeli occupation in Palestine, a region already suffering from international embargos. Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, urged Muslim countries and international community to intervene to stop Israeli attacks.

Hamas officials, speaking to mediators, reported they were ready to compromise provided that their offer of exchange with Gilad Shalit is accepted.

Following the bloody events, Hamas declared a state of emergency in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Interior Minister Said Siyam said, ?I urge all Palestinian security and defense forces to participate in the public defense, a moral, national and religious responsibility against the scared Zionist occupation and attacks.?

Israeli special forces reportedly killed Huseyin Abu Acva, a lecturer at the Islamic University, at his home in the Tufah region, located in the center of Gaza. Acva had been the target of rocket attacks before, and Israeli special teams report he was killed in al-Fatah garb.

While Hamas claimed al-Fatah killed Acva, religious head Abu Saban declared Israel was responsible for the murder.

The event was titled ?unknown attack? in the Israeli press.

Israel you are on notice. If you were any other country America would have invaded, taken over and replaced your goverment by now.

I guarantee this is going to hurt their credibility in the long run. This only reinforces the argument that they are the aggressors.

I said if Israel was any country but themselves.

America will always back Israel up.

But if let's say Iran did this or China or Russia or any other country you want to pick, chances are America would be running around begging for sanctions or armed responses against this.

The point is America is showing the world their double standards.

america has and will always have more double standards than most people have skin cells...i love being an american, i hate being an american who is represented by politicians who represent themselves and their own ideals only...the political system in this country has become a joke...i dont know whether most countries fear us(in general), the idiots that run our country or they just sit back and laugh at us

I really dislike our double standards in regards to nations like Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Because the Saudis are such huge oil suppliers, we refuse to get them to crack down on the Wahhabi teachings that have infiltrated their school system. Osama is a firm believer in Wahhabi Islam, and it is a dangerous group of people. The fact they are in charge of teaching Saudi children in school is pretty disturbing.

Want more I will be happy to provide it.

Israel is doing exactly what they have too. They are surrounded by nations that want them out. The people on the other side of the border walk onto school busses and blow themselvs up, saying god told them too.

They are going after these people, and while it might sound cruel, some civilians might just die in the process. Hwo many civilians have we killed in Iraq? 50,000? 100,000? Vitnam, 1,000,000? 2,000,000? And in these two cases what we were fighting was NOT threatning to out existance.

That was my point as well, its all about how you spin it. Israel claims to take care of business and will do so even if civilians are killed. Hamas targets civilians directly. In legal terms Israel is jut being reckless while Hamas has the intent to kill.

I don't really think it's a double standard. Things aren't always so simple. Sometimes certain needs trump others.

I hate when Israel chucks bombs and missiles into enemy territory with an apparent disregard for collateral damage. They're delusional if they think this is going to make them any safer.

I echo those thoughts.

Exactly Accord.

You all who think Israel kills civilians just because they aren't Israeli are wrong. Things happen in war. Civilians get killed. It only happened every day in World War 2.

You are using this as an excuse to say Israel is evil. Go ahead and believe what you want. Especially since if Israel were to fall the Middle East would be back to a black hole that it was under the mandates and the Ottomans and the Arabs and the Crusaders and so on.

I was just in Israel for a month, that being said...Israel is not the aggressor at all. Their military base was broken into by an underground tunnel then many of their soldiers were killed and 1 kidnapped and later killed ( i believe). If you cant retaliate for something like that then why have an army. All you people who say Israel is the aggressor are full of sh*t and want the one truely jewish land in the world to be dismanteled. I honestly think you all are disgusting who oppose this and yes it sucks that civilians are killed but they arent innocent civilians, these civilians will one way or another end up attacking innocent jewish israelis.

Accord and Beinfest we must ban together brother. Stay strong, dont let some of these anti-semites influence the people who are on the fence, we must tell people whats really going down.

Because we all know that stealing is ok as long as it's not a lot!

Because we all know that stealing is ok as long as it's not a lot!

*Move into your living room without paying rent* Prove that it is stealing. The Original Partition plan was areas that were almost all populated by Jews that was bought from the Arabs living there. But of course winning land in a war that the country did not start is Israel's fault, right?

And historically, most of the land of what is today Jordan is Israeli.

Israel got a small piece of land, yes its the most important land on earth, but the violence is unnecessary. Arabs didn't lost much if anything by this, they can live wqhere they want, ad the holy places are completely accessable. Its not likle they tore down Dome of the Rock and dug up the holy temple. Yeah, they built their holy plae on top of ours, but were the israeli's arent blowing them selvs up.

Israel is doing what it does for security, and defense, period.

uhhh...to jews and muslims, Jerusalem is the most important land on earth...so sadly, your opinion on this one is flat out wrong to millions of people world wide...and Because the PLO charter says that, you dont think Israel is thinking the same thing...they do with more tactful words and ideas and better weaponry...its funny about how people think of terrorism...they think that because armies wear uniforms and have tanks and airplanes that they are better than those who fight for their cause by blowing themselves up...there is absolutely no difference whatsoever...killing is killing is killing no matter how you slice it...now do i support the motives of Palentinians and radical muslims, no...because again...killing is killing, it doesnt matter if its a man, woman or child...they are a collateral and to me, that is inexcusable...truth is...im glad we are letting Israel handle all this sh*t on their own...last thing we need is another reason for terrorists to come to the U.S. I guess im just disappointed that peace in the middle east is a pipe dream because people will always justify violent action from previous violent action...apparently, when Jesus roamed the country side and said love thy neighbor he was only referring to the likelyhood of getting to bang that neighbor and not loving everyone, no matter what their color, religion, or world view

Actually the most important place for muslims would be mecca, followed by medina. So Jerusalem would not be their most important place on earth. I will agree that throughout the history of the world Jerusalem is the most important city, but I dont know if I would go as far as to say its the most important now.

yeah...sorry i was off on a tangent...mecca and medina are more important to muslims...which is why al queda isnt really thrilled about us having soldiers there...which is why they threaten to terrorize us...hmmm...maybe if we got the hell off their land they wouldnt be so mad at us...but hey...why would we do anything smart like that?

That would be subjective for the different muslim individual. But really for all 3 of the major western religions it is a very holy city to put it simply. Honestly once more it should be an international city, isreal should returned to it's chartered land and the UN should get off of the US property and move to there. It would solve alot of the problems, I believe then.

Is that likely to happen? No.

I dont believe there is anything anti-jewish in standing up and saying that murdering of women and children of muslims is wrong. Far from it, I believe it should be go for both sides that killing of women and children are wrong. Turning off powers to hospitals and water to them and schools is wrong as well.

PErhaps I ahve a different outlook then most for having gone to a muslim country before and been treated kindly even though I am an american.
