Today's attendance

Featured Replies

So, the box score says there were over 25,000 at the game today. Was that a typo, or was there a surprisingly large crowd at a Wednesday afternoon game?

I got tied up at work, and didn't get a chance to attempt to watch the game til now... and go figure, they play a great quick game...

Anyways, I hope that attendance number is true...

It's true, but we need more summer camps.

"Decent crowd today: Two teams with losing records at Dolphin Stadium on a weekday afternoon might sound like a formula for a record-low crowd. But the Marlins are expecting at least 20,000 fans today when they host the Nationals at 1:05 p.m.

At least 10,000 will be kids who are participating in a summer camp promotion.

Still, even with 10,000 summer campers, 15,000 on a Wednesday afternoon, against a last place team, no big names on the the mound, isn't too bad.

of the 25000 paid I'd say:

7000=empty

15000=camps

3000=everyone else. Trust me...outside of the camp groups, nobody was there.

No doubt your numbers are pretty close. Our seats were empty. Rarely do we ever make an afternoon game during the week. I would think most of the season ticket holders seats were vacant. And I'm not sorry to miss a game where there were 15K kids and a handful of supervisors watching them. LOL But it was a cool thing to do for the kids. And I heard that Loria even said they could turn in their ticket stubs for a future game. That may get their parents there for a game somewhere down the road.

I think it's great to have one or two of these "summer camp" games a summer.

1) It's still butts in the seat and $ in the pockets of Mr. Loria

2) Most other people can't make it to a wednesday 1:00 game. And most importantly...

3) It helps make sure that these kids will grow up to be Fish fans instead of Yankees/Braves/Cubs/Red Sox fans.

3000 everyone else? that's generous:) i'd go with like 1500 at most...

yea at best... you were surrounded by a good 5,000 campers today.... all wearing yellow and white

Just peeking over my shoulder, the upper deck was pretty full too, plus the power alleys were filled.

I thought the same.

Of course the PBP reporter or the AP guy, whoever's snide remark that was, were probably sitting in the air conditioned comfort of the press box and didn't realize the upperdeck was open. :banghead

yeah i was there besides the campers it was empty sad to say. but i missed a foul ball becuase of the wind then it hit the seat and went off my elbow to the guys behind me. :banghead

I know the camp my wife works for had about 90 of the 140 seats purchased used. The tix went for $5. But it fills the seats and looks better. Sort of like the mystery 10,000 tix bought on the last day of the 2002 season so we would finish ahead of the expos in attendance.

But if it works, next we should have prison release day and other promotions.

My middle school always had field trips for kids who made the honor roll and they'd take us to Marlin games. I went a couple of times and I loved it. The seats sucked & so did our team (1998, 1999 games) but I always had fun. Good times...

one thing i'd like to see (they did this in the 1998-2001 years) is if there is a light crowd and the upperdeck's open, they should move everyone down to the lowerbowl or at least allow you to move into empty seats that are closer.
