Out of State Fans
I live in Atlanta now, grew up in WPB where I became a Marlins fan. I'm not the only Fish fan up here though. I always see a decent number of Marlins caps and jerseys when the team plays up here.

8/9 -- Marlins at Phillies
I see Hermida earned himself some playing time today after that hit last night Based on the way Fredi manages, it probably just has to do with Hermida's splits against Moyer (although I don't know what they are). Johnson is 1-18 against Moyer, that's why he's sitting.

8/01 Post Game
I had to watch on WGN... and I'm really starting to hate Len Kasper. At least Boog Sciambi still shows a little respect to his former employer. No class at all from Len. I couldn't keep track of the number of times he took shots the organization, the fans, or the team. He and his partner even had the nerve to bitch about Nunez after Koiye Hill threw out his elbow running past first. I know this is nothing new with Len, but it just gets worse and worse, especially after games like tonight So that's what happened over there. Was wondering why Leo was glaring at him. Couldn't see the elbow from my angle. Chalk that up to retaliation for Leo's own antics at times. I'm not a fan of Leo's emotional outburst either, but if Hill didn't like it maybe he shouldn't have gone 0-6, and let his own game do the talking, instead of resorting to cheap shots.

July 31st Trade Deadline
Why not Russell Branyan? He's only signed to a 1 year deal at around 1.5 mil. The Mariners are probably in sell mode after their recent losing streak. Branyan would fit in well platooning with Bonifacio at 3B too--Boni vs. LHP and Branyan vs. RHP. He certainly fits the bill as a big bat...

Hanley ESPN article: Injury/Slow Start
Since the first game in Pittsburgh, Hanley hit .391/.462/.565. Someone please find me how he's not on track yet. I think it has less to do with his numbers themselves and more to do with how many players are playing better than he is. No player played better than him over that skid on our team. Not a single one. I'm not talking about just our respective team, but across the league entirely. He's supposed to be one of the best 1-3 best players in the game and he's 93rd on the player rater and dropping. Is he playing terrible? No, but he isn't playing to his skill level neither. Jeez man, if he had an OPS over 1.0 the rest of the season I think we'd all be fine and dandy.

Interesting stat on Jeremy Hermida.
And he had a key walk today in the ninth. From my perspective, it looks like most of the Marlins are at least being patient at the plate. For what it's worth as a team so far we're middle of the pack in the NL in walks, and near the top in strikeouts. BB/K Bonifacio 2/13 Hanley 4/9 Uggla 7/15 Ross 2/10 Hermy 10/8 Cantu 4/6 Maybin 4/14 Bake 4/8 Bench is actually 10/12 due to a freakish 7/0 by Ross Gload. The walks & strikeouts last season by Hermida were really baffling. Seems to be on the right track so far this season. The old scouting report on Hermida always credited him w/ a good eye, its nice to see him actually using it now. Cantu's early ratio (extra small sample size though, due to the hand injury) is an encouraging change too. Now we need to get Bonerface to stop swinging at anything high early in the count.

Charles Barkley is an idiot
"I was a Republican until they lost their minds," Barkley said. "The word 'conservative' means 'discriminatory,' practically. It's a form of political discrimination. What do the Republicans run on? Against gay marriage and for a war that makes no sense. A war that was based on faulty intelligence. That's all they ever talk about. That and immigration. Another discriminatory argument for political gain." :mischief2 Really now Accord, how much of an idiot could a guy like this be? *For the record, I don't even really like CB bar the random funny quote here and there, but I hardly think criticizing today's Republican party makes someone an idiot.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I thought all three were writers for the show? You might be right though. Anyway tonight's episode (the miracle one) was hillarious. Up there with the welfare episode for the best this season. LOL they're really pushing the limits with their material now and it's great!

7/27 Florida Marlins @ Atlanta Braves
Come on Bob! You gotta put something exctiing in a GT! Here I'll give you a hand: Bob Dole doesn't make exciting game threads because Bob Dole comes from the old Bob Dole school of Bob Dole simplicity. :Ahem: Sorry. But come on Fish! This is the last game I get to see before I have to leave the country for three weeks! Win one for the Jaker!

No more Logan
throw Messenger into the 8th and put Logan in the 7th I'm not the biggest Mess fan but this might be necessary for the time being. Kensing's fastball is just getting jumped on by hitters and until he fixes this it might be better to not have him in the setup role.

Cody Ross
Cody could use some plate discipline too You're right, he could. Yet another reason for Ross to get playing time... over the very slow developing questionable talent ABercrombie Right, I definitely rate Willingham higher than Abercrombie. I was speaking about the near future (probably next year), under the assumption that we will hopefully get a real CFer.
-
Cody Ross
Ross' potential > Willingham's potential I have no idea where you got that from... Obviously a few years ago I would have said Willingham has all the potential in the world. But he's just not developed at the rate that would make him an everyday starter on a MLB roster. I understand he's a rookie, but he is also 27 years old. His main asset is his power but it isn't going to get any better, and he's been known to fall victim to the injury bug. It's starting to look like his actual potential might be lower than the raw potential attributed to him a few years ago. Ross is two years younger and really only has one glaring area that needs work, consistent contact hitting. This should improve with major league coaching.

As If Iraq Couldn't Get Any Worse...
How many people do you know? How many relatives and friends do you have? That .5% of the population isn't what's in question. You're questioning how many people know someone in this .5%, which is actually quite high. And how do you know that most of the millitary doesn't fall in that 60%? Considering that a disproportinate number of soldiers are Hispanic and African-American, and these groups tend to have higher disapproval ratings for the war, I'd say that's not the smartest assumption to make.

As If Iraq Couldn't Get Any Worse...
and tell me...what use is it building schools when you bombed the kids parents? Jimmy strikes again :lol . And why does it seem like every liberal I come across has a "friend" or "cousin" who is in the military and against the war? :plain What a complete load of crap. :plain Tell me you're kidding. There are nearly 1.5 million Americans currently active in the millitary. Over 60% of Americans disapprove of the war in Iraq. Yeah, what a coincidence.

Cody Ross
Ross' offense < Willingham's offense Ross' defense > Willingham's defense Ross' potential > Willingham's potential While I don't know that Ross is the long term answer in LF, I think he might have more potential out there than Willingham. I'd like to see us pick up a decent CF next year and give Ross most of the playing time in LF, while Amezega becomes our main defensive sub/pinch runner and Willingham becomes our main offensive sub. I don't think Borchard is going to cut it, and who knows if Helms is even going to be here after July 31.

As If Iraq Couldn't Get Any Worse...
Yeah it's no worse then when a dictator was there slaughtering his citizens, or when the fighting was at it's most intense. I'd love for you guys to talk to some of the soliders that have actually been on the ground there, it'd be an eye opening experience. Yawn. This is the standard response to everything that goes bad in Iraq. This is your logic: Problem- The balance of power remains destabalized in the Middle East with numerous acts of viloence. Response- "At least we got rid of Saddam. The insurgency is in its 'last throws.' Support our troops." Do you see the problem? Your response in no way adresses the serious problems that exist. The Middle East is a f***ing mess and Iraq is smack dab in the middle of it. This article presents a serious issue, whatever source it came from. How can the US support millitary action from Israel in self-defense, but not from Turkey against terrorists acting against the their millitary? The inconsistencies in Bush's foreign policy make it less and less credible every day. And just FYI, a family friend of mine was seriously injured by a roadside IED a little over a year a ago. He and his family certainly don't feel the same way you do.

The Contender
I tend to hate reality TV, and quite enjoy boxing so I didn't know where I'd land on this show. Honestly, I like it but I could easily see myself just tuning in for the second half-hour to see the fight and its immediate buildup instead of all the fluff they throw in the first half-hour. Oh and it's on at 10:00 pm on Tuesdays. Although I'm sure ESPN is going to show re-runs as often as that damn World Series of Poker :plain

Pitching matchups in ATL
Braves are still looking red hot guys. I can't see how some of you guys are expecting 2/3. I'd be freakin ecstatic with that. Let's take it one game at a time.
