I was looking up the team's stats and I came across Jeremy Hermida's walks to strike out ratio. This year Jeremy has walked 10 times and stuck out 8 times. Last year he had 48 walks and 138 strike outs. According to my math (I have not taken a math class in years) Jeremy is on pace for 135 walks and 108 strike outs. Pretty good aint it (love the walks) :thumbup . He also has an OBP of .451 which is second best to Gload who has an OBP of .524.

:dancehead . Keep it going Jermy Hermy.

Apparently, you haven't taken a grammar or English composition class in years, either. lol jk

It's great Jeremy has had a great eye. I don't mind the 100+ strikeouts if his OBP is in the high .300s.

LOL.... oh crap. I totally messed that up. I'll fix it. This is what I get for doing homework and surfing the internet at the same time.

He does have a great eye right now. He just spits on those breaking balls in the dirt. I look forward to watching the bust do well.

And he had a key walk today in the ninth. From my perspective, it looks like most of the Marlins are at least being patient at the plate.

For what it's worth as a team so far we're middle of the pack in the NL in walks, and near the top in strikeouts.

BB/K

Bonifacio 2/13

Hanley 4/9

Uggla 7/15

Ross 2/10

Hermy 10/8

Cantu 4/6

Maybin 4/14

Bake 4/8

Bench is actually 10/12 due to a freakish 7/0 by Ross Gload.

The walks & strikeouts last season by Hermida were really baffling. Seems to be on the right track so far this season.

Nice statistical analysis!

Jeremy took 3 of those walks today... With Nats were having a good deal of trouble locating for stretches. IMO Hermida needs to go up in the order with the patience he is showing. BOTOH, having him and Ross at the back end is pretty deadly. Pitchers are never safe against this lineup. :mischief

Admittingly, I am not that knowledgable with stats. But with my rose colored glasses, I liked the 9th inning at bats of Uggla and Hanley today, even though they struck out. They worked the count in a pressure-filled situation. Sure, they both struck out, but it wasn't like they swung at 3 bad pitches and sat down. That's what I meant with "being patient" :)

We have had quite a few "good" strikeouts this season (seeing a lot of pitches)

We have also had some horrible ones. Personally, I loved seeing EB with the bat on his shoulder in the 9th. Would also like to see him showing bunt early more. Get the pitcher to try and hit the corners and take pitches. Easy way to get deeper into counts, IMO.

Gload is a legend! :lol

The Gload/Helms combo is so funny to me. They are such MLB lifers, IMO. Total professionals... Good chemistry guys ( :o )!

The old scouting report on Hermida always credited him w/ a good eye, its nice to see him actually using it now. Cantu's early ratio (extra small sample size though, due to the hand injury) is an encouraging change too. Now we need to get Bonerface to stop swinging at anything high early in the count.

Yea, I almost feel like He[rm] was too patient early in his career, which caused him to change his approach and get screwed up, kinda. If he can figure it out he has the talent to be a 3 hitter, IMO.

And EB needs to stop swinging at anything high, period. He took a high FB today with a half-jerk of the bat. :lol You could tell he REALLY wanted to swing. He's like the kid sister in "A League of Their Own"

"can't hit em, can't lay off em" :lol

Nice reference :thumbup

Also, because of what you bolded, I thought that you thought that EB has the talent to be a 3 hitter, but then I figured it out :lol

I always believed in him. :mischief

I was quite and pleasantly surprised to see Boni take the walk. His O-fer streak is not the best (I picture him as Willie Mays Hayes from Major League right now, trying to hit fly balls when he really should be hitting grounders and making the defense hustle to get him out. At least, that's my perspective from seeing him yesterday live :D ), but he got on base when it was most important.

Exactly.

Look at the bottom of the Marlins lineup, and it's almost unfair how much talent is there...

6. Hermida (who looks poised for a career year)

7. Ross (who, with 600+ plate appearances, should hit a minimum of 25 dingers, 80 RBI)

8. Maybin (hasn't done much yet, but I wouldn't worry. he's got the type of talent to make pitchers remember he is no true #8 guy)

And the last few games have shown the offensive depth. The middle of the lineup struggles, and these guys are there to pick them up. Not many teams can say they have a #6 or #7 hitter that has the bat to win a game.
