Madbul, I think anyone who opens this thread has already seen the show. Cirie's fire was a lot better than Danielle's and that's what worries me ( I like Cirie).

If you watched the previews for next week, it seems pretty obvious who's going home first on Sunday's show. Someone's fire was A LOT bigger than the other person's. I'd say who, if I knew how to do those spoiler things, but I don't, so that's that.

I'm really pissed. I just saw a promo( which showed the final 3 on SeeBS

It was probably past footage, but obviously I don't know. I'm worried I got spoiled another way. I hate when mainstream articles talk about betting patterns regarding these shows. Some survivor betting had to be shut down because of unusual betting patterns, and now I know who those bets were for, and I am not pleased, to say the least. I do know that spoilers are sometimes wrong, so at least there's that. Whatever. I'm not gonna worry about it.

Danielle wont win the million.

 

Cirie would have to win immunity next time out to win the million, well unless Terry and Aras are dumber than I thought.

The spoliers that I wished I hadn't seen said that there had been heavy wagering on Danielle. But then I realized that no one knows the results except for maybe like 3 people...so probably Danielle was going to the final two, but as for who the winner was...it was anyone's game. Well, except Cirie's.

 

Apparently, Terry would've beat Danielle, which was a little surprising to me. I guess people liked him more than I thought. Most of the exit interviews I saw had people talking about him as though he had no social skills whatsoever.

 

If Cirie couldn't win, I was rooting for Aras...so good on him, I guess.

Yeah I was glad he won. Had the most heart and probably deserved more than D.

 

I really liked this season, what do you guys think?

 

Cirie already guranteed herself a spot on the all stars edition coming in the next couple years.

It was a pretty good season. They've all been good since that one where Chris won. Nothing terribly surprising happened. The Casaya tribe was probably the greatest dysfunctional family in Survivor history, and impressively they stuck together as long as they could. Cirie was certainly one of the greatest Survivor characters of all time, and a very good strategist. Shane was Shane. I loved the Terry/Aras rivalry. And the hidden immunity idol added a lot of strategic possibilities, even if it never really realized its full potential.

 

Cirie will definitely be offered an All-Star spot, if they attempt another one of those. I'd rather they just not bother, though.

1) I enjoyed All-Stars for the first two episodes or so because it was cool seeing all the old players grouped together like that. However, I think even that novelty will not be there for a 2nd edition.

 

2) Because they vote off all the winners and the biggest threats early in the game, leaving only the mentally deficient players. Look who was on the jury last time:

 

Lex - probably the worst player in Survivor history

Big Tom - obviously a big mound of stupid

Kathy - the only jury member with half a brain

Alicia - bleh, lucky just to be there; never more than a pawn

Shii Ann - once again, bleh

Rupert - no clue how to play the game

Jenna L - bleh

 

All 4 of the previous winners, and also Rob C, had been voted off by the jury stage. Watching Rob and Amber bludgeon people with their stupid sticks was not terribly exciting. The only saving grace was that I like Rob and Amber.

 

3) The players don't care as much. They're been through it all before. They're already making money off of their Survivor fame. There's no novelty to the whole thing. You had 2 people quit, even.

 

4) And this is perhaps the most damaging - all the players know each other. They're all doing the same Survivor tours and events and all that jazz. Former Survivors are like a second family. And so they bring all that personal history into the gane, stuff that we never get to see. There's so much going on behind the scenes that really shouldn't be part of the game. Probst has said he had a lot of trouble getting Survivors on opposing tribes to stop talking to each other during challenges. The whole thing feels like a summer camp, or just some kind of exhibition.

Great points. To this day, I still laugh everytime I think about Lex saying that the game is life and that it represents who you are. Big Tom is pretty stupid. I've always liked Shii Ann for some reason. Only thing I didn't like about her was her self proclaimed Shii Devil crap.

 

To be fair, the two that left (Jenna M and Sue) had pretty good reasons to quit. Jenna's mom was dieing and she wanted to be by her mother's side when she passed away. Sue basically got molested by Hatch although she was laughing about it a couple days later when talking to the media.

 

At the time, I really liked Rob & Amber but I couldn't stand them afterwards. They were EVERYWHERE. CBS did a 2 hour special on their wedding and they were even on The Amazing Race (they were so f***ing mean). I also never understood why Amber was considered an All-Star. She wasn't that popular and her stay wasn't very long in Australia.

The man who won "Survivor: Thailand" four years ago is charged with battery and cruelty to animals. Officials said Brian Heidik shot a puppy with an arrow.

 

A Georgia county judge has released Heidik on bond.

 

Atlanta TV station WSB-TV reported that Heidik told the judge he thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets. But a prosecutor said Heidik's wife called authorities at 3 a.m. to say he'd shot a puppy "and planned to shoot another one."

 

Officials said Heidik fled in his car when sheriff's deputies arrived. He was quickly captured. The prosecutor said evidence at the home also supports a charge of battery for family violence.

 

Heidik is a former North Carolina State football player, used-car salesman and part-time actor.

I know. I saw that. That guy was a good player, but a total asshat. He was also in a season where everyone was a total moron.

 

It says something that even as a former winner he wasn't invited to be on All-Stars.

 

Oh, and it was discovered during his season that he had been in a number of porn films. The article calls him a "part-time actor". That's one way of putting it.

 

Also, he was in the news a couple years ago when his wife beat him up.

 

Class act.

`Survivor' Richard Hatch Sent to Prison

Richard Hatch has been sent to a federal prison in Oklahoma as he serves a 51-month sentence for failing to pay taxes on the $1 million he won on the debut season of "Survivor."

 

Hatch, 45, of Newport, arrived last week at the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City. It wasn't immediately clear why Hatch was moved or whether he will serve out his prison sentence at the facility, which is a hub for prisoners transferring through the federal system.

 

A federal jury convicted Hatch in January of failing to pay taxes on the "Survivor" prize and other income. He was sentenced in May to 51 months in prison by a judge who said the reality TV star had lied repeatedly on the witness stand.

 

Hatch had previously been held at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Massachusetts.

 

He would prefer to serve his sentence near family in Rhode Island or in Florida, said his lawyer, Michael Minns.

 

"He should be in a camp," Minns said. "The camps are the most comfortable of the uncomfortable. They are still jails, but they get to see the sky and be outside. It's bad for Richard, who is an outdoor person."

 

Hatch became known on the CBS show as the "fat naked guy" for refusing to wear clothes.

Well, confirming rumors that have been circulating for a while, CBS revealed the new cast today, and, sure enough, the tribes will be initially divided along racial lines. There will be 4 teams of 5 to start--White, Latinos, Blacks, and Asians. Let's just hope they don't get too cute with the colors of the tribe buffs.

I'm waiting for them to put up the profiles that they usually put up, but for now I've got to go with the pre-med student. I already want to kick Jessica in the head.

NYC No Fan of "Survivor: Segregation Island"

Who would've thought reinstituting segregation would cause such controversy? Oh, right. Everyone but the producers of Survivor.

A group of New York City officials and civil rights groups have blasted CBS' announcement that it has split the contestants on Survivor: Cook Islands into tribes by race, claiming the producers' decision to pit blacks, whites, Asians and Hispanics against one another during the early rounds of the show would only promote divisiveness among competitors and viewers alike.

 

"This idea is so ill conceived that it would be funny--but for the fact that racism does still sometimes rear its ugly head," city councilman John Liu said at a press conference Friday. "This show has the potential to set back our nation's race relations by 50 years.

 

"Nowhere else do we tolerate racial segregation, and we certainly won't stand for it in this battle-of-the-races scheme to prop up sagging television ratings."

 

Liu claimed the show's divisive premise would do nothing but promote the spread of negative stereotypes based on the actions of the different tribes--something that, just two days after the announcement, is already an issue.

 

Right-wing mouthpiece Rush Limbaugh, always keen to harangue on delicate subjects, took to handicapping the new season on his radio show Wednesday.

 

Hispanics, he said, "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders" and "will do things other people won't do." Asians, per Limbaugh, are "the best at espionage, keeping secrets." Blacks "lack buoyancy" and are "more likely to drown," while the white man's burden will weigh down the last team with "guilt over the fact that they run things."

 

So much for breaking stereotypes.

 

Liu, an Asian American, is hoping to head off any more grandiose and ill-informed statements at the pass, launching a campaign for CBS to pull the season, or at least the season's concept, from the air. (The latter is a nonstarter, since the show has already been shot.) He's teaming up with the council's Black, Latino and Asian Caucus to urge the network to rethink the questionable gimmick, beginning with a rally at New York's City Hall earlier today.

 

"This is not the type of premise that promotes unity," council member Robert Jackson said at the Friday press conference. "This show does not foster an environment that is conducive to diversity."

 

Caucus cochair Maria del Carmen Arroyo agreed, saying that Survivor's producers didn't realize the impact of their programming decision.

 

"CBS has demonstrated a great lapse in judgment. As a society, we need to hold corporations responsible for their actions," councilwoman Melissa Mark Viverito said.

 

The caucus has already earned the support of like-minded advocacy groups. The leader of Hispanics Across America told Reuters the new season of Survivor was "not reality TV--it's racist TV."

 

"Moreover, the participants will be held to the daunting and unfair challenge of representing an entire race of people," HAA founder Fernando Mateo said, adding that the stunt was an "offensive and cheap trick."

 

"What will it mean for a team--a race--to fail in a battle of wits and strength against another race?"

 

For its part, CBS defended the decision to segregate the tribes based on ethnicity and denied claims it was an incendiary twist designed to grab headlines and ratings--both of which the show, having dropped to a franchise-low average of 16.8 million viewers last season, could use. The powers that be instead insist the stunt was the next logical step in a series that made its name on exploring social politics.

 

"CBS fully recognizes the controversial nature of this format but has full confidence in the producers and their ability to produce the program in a responsible manner," the network said in a statement. "Survivor is a program that is no stranger to controversy and has always answered its critics on the screen."

 

Last season, for instance, the contestants were also initially split into four tribes--then consisting of the oldest men, the oldest women, the youngest men and the youngest women. The groups eventually merged into two mixed teams and finally a single tribe.

 

On Tuesday, when he first announced this season's segregation on CBS' Early Show, host Jeff Probst said that the contestants had "mixed reactions" about the division.

 

Probst also claimed that, controversial as the premise was turning out to be, the idea to divide its cast was well intentioned.

 

"The idea for this actually came from the criticism that Survivor was not ethnically diverse enough, because for whatever reason, we always have a low number of minority applicants for the show," Probst said.

 

Inadvertently or not, the producers of Survivor do appear to have contributed to the cause of racial unity. Thanks to the division, all ethnicities seem to have united--in their opposition to the show.

I don't see it as that big of a deal. If one group was being disadvantaged because of their race or creed or it was just a tool to spread racist stereotypes, then maybe I could understand. But, it's just a cheesy game show.

 

If anything Limbaugh's comments are more racist than the premise of this show. And more than likely this presupposition of the show ("battle of the races") will bring more ratings to Survivor (if that's possible).

Who gives a damn? I mean really, its a new and fresh idea for the show. People make way too big a deal out of nothing.
