August 8, 200619 yr ATTENDANCE UPDATE The Marlins, who drew fewer than 50,000 for the series with the streaking Dodgers, have the lowest attendance in the majors at 719,959 in 55 home dates. That's about a quarter-million behind the Kansas City Royals, who have baseball's worst record and have drawn 965,121 fans in 55 home dates. Dolphin Stadium attendance works out to 13,090 a game or about 2 ? times less than the big-league average, leaving the team on pace for the second-lowest attendance in franchise history. In 2002, Jeffrey Loria's first year as owner, the Marlins drew 813,111, an average of 10,038 a game. THATS PATHETIC
August 8, 200619 yr Outstanding young team, exciting to watch, but who wants to go sweat to death at a game? I went out there for a week to see Nolasco throw a couple games in May. I saw three old men pass out in the stands during one day game. I have never been so miserably hot in my life. And I spent 14 months in Baghdad, Iraq wearing body armor and a kevlar helmet! The Marlins absolutely have to get out of that stadium. What happens now that the Dolphins are getting ready for their season? That has to be a mess.
August 8, 200619 yr Stop sipping Tommy Hutton's Kool-Aid. Like any business it is their responsability to give customers a reason to come out to the ballpark. It is not for them to say winning alone should do that. We had John Henry tell fans Dolphins Stadium served up a horrible baseball experience. Loria and Samson have told us that if we give them hundreds of millions of dollars we can have a baseball experience like other cities. So even they say its not only about winning. So obviously the experience inside the ballpark is less than acceptable even though the product on the field is competitive. We can go through the Marlins timeline. Different owners, different promises, different payroll corrections, and different threats to contract or move the team. Last I saw, attendance was growing year after year until Loria decided to tear apart the team. It does not matter how good or bad the team is, it matters that fans were turned off by what the owner of this business did. Tommy Hutton is not obligated to eat at the Jupiter Ale House and no one talks down to him on a daily basis if their customer traffic is slowing down. I love Hutton but he really needs to calm down and stick to the game. It is not for him to tell anyone how to spend their hard-earned money. In South Florida where FU money flows freely and major events sell as well as anywhere else in the country....when you cannot draw a crowd maybe its time for the business owner to accept fault and admit the complete product they are providing is not what the consumer wants.
August 8, 200619 yr I went this past saturday and sunday and I probably lost about 3 pounds just sitting there in the heat, even in the night game my marlins cap felt like i just dunked it in a bucket of water. On sunday ( a day game) i was prepared with some sunblock but i guess that wasnt enough because i ended up getting a sunburn on my neck, face, and arms. And i didnt even stay until the end of the game!

Good baseball should be enough to get the real baseball fan to the ballpark. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of those in South Florida evidently. All things considered with the ballpark, the casual fan isn't too enticed to go.
August 8, 200619 yr I know what should happen, but showing up validates what Loria did in the offseason, and just further fuels the "guilt trip me out to the ballgame" mentality used by this ownership group. I go, I have season tickets, but I will never, ever, fault one person for not coming to a Marlin game again as long as Jeffrey Loria is up to his hijinks...he does not deserve major league support. It really is a terrible feeling to love a team yet hate the organization.
August 8, 200619 yr THATS PATHETIC NEWS FLASH! Complaining about the attendance won't bring more people to the stadium.

Hey, we know that for people like us that post on the boards and make the team a part of our daily ritual...we will go se the team win or lose, good or bad....but you can say what should be until you are blue in the face. If you want to change things obviously it is not just about wins and losses for the average folks and THAT is who is needed. Forget what should be....the team needs to focus on what works.
August 8, 200619 yr Seriously, who needs an "attendance update"? I think we are aware of the fact that the attendace is not good. We don't need another thread telling us this. But I honestly can't blame people for not going. I love the Marlins and I love going to games but I absolutely HATE driving to that stadium. It's far and in the middle of nowhere.

August 8, 200619 yr But I honestly can't blame people for not going. I love the Marlins and I love going to games but I absolutely HATE driving to that stadium. It's far and in the middle of nowhere. It sounds like our only possibility is Hialeah, and that will be too far for some people in broward. My Dad's already told me if they move there, we'll have to drop our season tickets, and we might only go to a game or two a year.
August 8, 200619 yr Author ok u wanna be like that ok no problem.... i went to giants, nationals, cardinals, mets twice, red sox, and braves twice

The casual fan is what fills stadiums. 13,000 ppl in the park if all 10,000 die hard marlins fans go every night, thats still horrible attendance. I've been to shea several times and more than half the people around you dont know jack about baseball, its an even greater # at yankee stadium. Hialeah isnt that far depending what part of borward u live in
August 8, 200619 yr ok u wanna be like that ok no problem.... i went to giants, nationals, cardinals, mets twice, red sox, and braves twice You went to 8 games this year and its August 8th. :plain Im not dissing the # of games you have personally gone to. Huge ditto: I watch EVERY game on t.v unless I am unable to (Vacation- but I watch BBTN and SC everynight to find out how the boys did). I really only go to about 5 games a year but if I lived closer I would have season tickets. BTW: I do go to A LOT of Spring Training games in Jupiter and Ft. Lauderdale.
