Alright folks...

 

 

I am sure we have all heard about this amazing program that MLB is doing currently. We are going to decide on this board who is the hometown hero for all 30 MLB teams.

 

I'd love for some amazing discussion on all of the teams in this great game of baseball. If you dont see your team today, dont worry, it will be up eventually. But please, give your input, this series of debates can be exactly what you make them, so make it awesome.

 

So without further ado...

 

The Baltimore Orioles Hometown Hero Nominees:

Very close....Murray was a great player without a personality. Ripken was an ironman with a great personality and the Robinson's were good players.....

how can you vote against cal ripken? omg what a career. when you think of the orioles you think of the ironman.

Of those five, Frank Robinson easily had the best career, but he didn't even played six of his 21 seasons there, so he's out...Eddie Murray was just a decent player who stuck around long enough to accumulate his stats, so he's out....Brooks Robinson was below average offensively, so he's out...so it's pretty much a tossup between Cal Ripken and Jim Palmer

When I think Orioles, I think Ripken.

Ripken, even though hes not as good as anybody else on there.

Ripken wins. I wore 8 in little league through college because he was my idol. Such a strong work ethic, has done a ton for the community, and an overall likeable guy.

To me it's Cal. I remember when he was chasing 2,131 when I was a kid; I had the newspaper clippings taped to my bedroom door.

I go with Brooks Robinson.

 

I know Palmer and he's a jerk so I won't vote for him , and I just don't care for Ripken, he's just too damn overrated for me.

Gotta go with Ripken. He's not as good a player as the others, but his streak was something that was absolutely historic. Spent his whole career in Baltimore. Besides, when a player's final season becomes a farewell tour where away games become events as people in those hometowns go to the park to see the player for one last time, you're dealing with a special player. His stats may not have him at #1, but "Hometown Hero" isn't an award that ought to be strictly determined by what a player did or didn't do on the field.

agreed. this isnt all about the stats, its about who meant the most to a franchise and who is their most recognizable player

 

for the O's, its gotta be Ripken

This is obvious and if you vote for someone else (besides maybe Brooks) you are conducting shenagins. Ripken grew up in the area and played his career in Baltimore, never missing a game while putting up some darn impressive numbers.
