August 15, 200619 yr Would any of you be cool with the idea of moving him to possibly second base or any other position maybe? Does he look like the kind of shortstop we are use to seeing? I mean after Renteria, than Gonzalez, am not very use to this, is he even average?
August 15, 200619 yr as of right now, he's below average defensively. over time, he'll mature and become a better SS. he's supposed to be great defensively, we just haven't seen it yet. and if we moved him to second, where would uggla play?

August 15, 200619 yr He will be an excellent SS and very soon...he is rangy and has a good arm...no reason to move him at all
August 15, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the input, yeah I wouldn't want to even think of moving Uggla, he's come out to be great. But I am concerned about Hanley and his D, today it seemed like he had to make an outfielder type of throw to first base when he threw it too high. I'm just worried that he might lack that confidence that you need when playing shortstop. Do you guys think that moving him him to CF will even work though?

Well doing that would just move our missing piece from CF to SS If we end up signing an everyday SS in the offseason, i could see Hanley move to CF next year. i dont think it will happen that way, but i guess its a possibility
August 15, 200619 yr For this season (and I said this long ago) why have we not brought Andino up to push Hanley and/or win the position? When Amezaga is in CF who is our b/o 2b/ss? Exactly. I am a Ross fan, but no matter who it is.....Abercrombie, Borchard or Ross....we don't need six outfielders. Andino should be up and one of the OFers down. I also think Hanley and CF may wanna be looked at. If he can play CF that is definitly a team need and not just a place to stick Hanley because he has had some problems at SS.
August 15, 200619 yr I will keep Hanley but I would let him know that if he doesnt perform Amazega can jump right behind him and keep him on the bench for a couple of days. Alfredo needs to be playing infield to help us out more. Reggie cant get hot now if ur only letting him play 1 inning definsively, and maybe 2 times a week at most.
August 15, 200619 yr Like we're used to seeing? Gonzalez struggled not only his first seaosn but his first couple. Ramirez is more than adequate defensively and provides a quality bat at the position. He'll get better. I'm just worried that he might lack that confidence that you need when playing shortstop. Do you guys think that moving him him to CF will even work though? Confidence will come when he's got a firm role in the major leagues. You can't expect a rookie to do everything (or most things) right AND be confident.
August 15, 200619 yr He cut down those mistakes in 2004 IIRC. With the shoulder injury in 2005 he regressed.
August 15, 200619 yr Hanelys mistakes are more mental than anything else. He has the physical ability to be a great defender, he just needs to know when tohold the ball rather than making a bad throw, when to not rush throws. Things like that, that cna be learned w time

Exactly. amezaga is the backup 2B/SS. If alfredo's in the outfield we'd put ross in his spot in the outfield and move amezaga to either 2B/SS. Gonzalez still made stupid errors last year as well. He could give you a handful of web gems every week but he still knew how to botch the routine plays. remember that throw of his in Los Angelos of Anaheim? :plain
