August 16, 200620 yr ...played 2nd base last night? Made a nice running catch behind 1st. Just an emergency move, since Polanco hurt his shoulder in the 7th and had to leave, and Infante had already left the game (started at 3rd). Infante will replace Polanco at 2nd for the time being. As for Pudge -- he's just all-around awesome.... :mischief

August 16, 200620 yr why has pudge been playing first? i don't get it. he's a gold glover. if pudge is at first then wilson's at catcher, I don't see why they'd want to do that. I'd prefer to have shelton in the lineup over wilson (shelton's in AAA).

It's not unusual for catchers to explore moving to other positions (or DH) when they reach their mid-30s.
August 17, 200620 yr That was crazy. Pudge had been playing first because Dmitri Young was on the DL and Shelton had no true backup at that position. Pudge and Guillen split some time there.

It's odd to think of Pudge at 1st though, he just doesn't look like a first baseman.
August 17, 200620 yr Looking back, we really dropped the ball on that one big time. Kind of a moot issue since he would have been traded along with everyone else this past off season
