I think that the Jamesian formula for HOF potential will be revisited and readjusted for "the live ball era."

Let's face it; Walker, Biggio, Bernie, and Sheff were very good hitters for spurts of time, but never considered the BEST hitter. None of them played strong enough D [a la Ozzie Smith] to get in based on that.

We'll see. The HOF has lost some value to me since guys like Olivio snuck their way in.

All of the pitchers listed below are locks and hitters 1-11 are locks as well. I think Ichiro gets in, too, because they will take his late start into account. Also, he IS considered the best hitter of the last couple of years.

Just some more on this, this is a list of all the current pitchers who cross the HOF threshold:

1. Roger Clemens 326

2. Randy Johnson 320

3. Greg Maddux 240

4. Pedro Martinez 193

5. Mariano Rivera 173

6. Curt Schilling 167

7. Tom Glavine 165

8. John Smoltz 142

9. Trevor Hoffman 132

List of all the current batters who cross the HOF threshold:

1. Barry Bonds 345

2. Alex Rodriguez 266

3. Ken Griffey 209

4. Ivan Rodriguez 205

5. Mike Piazza 205

6. Derek Jeter 190

7. Frank Thomas 184

8. Manny Ramirez 182

9. Vladimir Guerrero 163

10. Todd Helton 161

11. Albert Pujols 152

12. Jeff Bagwell 149

13. Admin Walker 147

14. Craig Biggio 145

15. Ichiro Suzuki 144

16. Bernie Williams 133

17. Gary Sheffield 132

Craig Biggio no

WHAT??? His in 1st ballot

why is he first ballot?

Ivan Rodriguez No

you got some 'splainin to do

Pedro is the definition of a no-doubt hall of famer.

Frank Thomas is one of the greatest hitters ever. Period. Sure, he's a dh, but so was Edgar Martinez, and he's going in. Frank Thomas has the ugliest swinging motion I've ever seen, but god, is it pretty.

I'd actually be suprised if Edgar went in.

People need to stop criminalizing the DH too.

I'd actually be suprised if Edgar went in.

He is so boderline that I think his being a DH will leave him standing at the door. On the plus side, he does have two bating titles to his name. On the minus side, Donnie Baseball had an MVP to go with his batting title and played 9 seasons of GG defense and he's still on the outside looking in.

I don't think you can let Edgar in unless Mattingly gets in. Of course, if you let Mattingly in you probably have to put Palmeiro in too. So now you have to put two similar borderline guys in ahead of Edgar. That's really weighing heavily against him.

Palmeiro pre-suspension was light years ahead of Mattingly.

3,000 hits and 500 HR are the two biggest batting milestones and he had them both.

Julio Franco? lol

:lol :lol :lol

Doesnt even have a shot with the Veterans Committee.

:lol

Although he could get in for most fundamentally flawed batting stance. :mischief2

Andruw Jones: With a few more great years, he will probably be. But I don't think he should be.

Carlos Delgado: Borderline

Ivan Rodriguez: Arguably the greatest catcher ever. A lock.

Craig Biggio: A lock

Tom Glavine: A lock

John Smoltz: A lock

Bernie Williams: He'll probably go in, but he doesn't deserve it

Ken Griffey, Jr.: A lock

Mike Piazza: A lock

Jim Thome: Probably won't be in.

Frank Thomas: Should be in

Alex Rodriguez: A lock

Ichiro Suzuki: A lock

Manny Ramirez: A lock

Pedro Martinez: A lock

Andy Pettitte: Extreme borderline

Julio Franco: Probably will just because of longevity

Randy Johnson: A lock

What?

Ichiro isnt a lock but I think he's gonna make the HOF if he maintains

It's ridiculous to mention Mattingly as a Hall of Famer. Will Clark is no Hall of Famer but he belongs in there before Mattingly. Mattingly in the HOF would further dilute and cheapen the HOF.

Edgar Martinez has the number to be the first full time DH in history in the HOF it may happen we will have to wait and see. I am rooting for him

He doesn't belong in the HOF. He put up good numbers but there are many others who played when he played that put as good or better numbers. Borderline guy but he doesn't belong.

I think hall of fame standards should rise because in my mind only really really good pitchers and Mvp's should be up there
