Official Dontrelle Willis Thread

Featured Replies

I actually clicked an ad for Nike+ and they had a clip with Dontrelle....kinda neat.

Click the link, click the HOME icon, then "Exclusive New Music To Run To". :lol its all flash so there isn't a direct link that I can find anywhere sorry. I believe he's the first one on the list. Interesting concept as well.

I guess you can also buy tracks at iTunes with a bunch of songs that he picked if you want.

Thats pretty cool... Dtrain has been with Nike for about a yr and half now... If you go to orlando to one of the several Nike Factory's they have a HUGE photo of him pitching in all nike gear. It coves the entire wall

I wonder if it's the same one I have (smaller version of course) ;)

Why wouldn't you sign up Dontrele if your Nike? He's the total package of talent, attitude, and being a great person. We better make out like bandits if we ever trade him.

I was bummed with trading Josh last year..but I wouldn't trade back Hanley and Anibel for him ever again. But Josh had serious issues (with maybe more upside) whereas Dontrelle seems like virtual money in the bank. He's an organizational wet dream, we had better come out like roses if we ever cut bait with him. I love that guy. As cliche guy would say, "He's everything right with sports today"

there's a nike factory in orlando? is that the main one? and it has tours?

Yeha when he says factory he means factory outlet. It's an outlet store. Everything is shittier than what youd find at a Niketown, just some good deals here and there.

I dont think so at all.... I was there about a week 1/2 ago and they had some nice sh*t! I mean they have tons of Jordon stuff! I mean tons.. I personally am not into Jordan but there was some nice stuff. What was cool is that they had some Marlins Stuff that I bought.

I got this Marlins gamer Jacket:

for only 29.99

And I also got the Marlins MLB "cool air" shirt for 14.99.. That have grat deals man!

kool. I'll check it out next time I'm up there. Not that I need anymore marlins stufff, but the more the merrier.

Maybe I went to the wrong one. Everything I had seen was released several months before...nothing new.

Yea I have so much Marlins gear its unreal! But I couldnt pass up that price

1. The Marlins should trade Dontrelle Willis this winter

There is so little pitching available this winter that if the Marlins dangled Willis, there would be a robust trade market for him. Willis turns 25 this winter, he's left-handed, he has a World Series ring. The Marlins could get the kind of top outfield prospect that they need if they agreed to deal Willis.

But if Florida keeps Willis, whose salary could be in the area of $8 million next season after he goes through arbitration, and he has a season similar to what he posted last year -- a decent-but-not-great 12-12, 3.87 ERA -- his trade value will drop, as his salary rises, as he gets closer to free agency.

There are questions about how long Willis can maintain his complicated delivery, and whether he'll stay healthy. And Florida has enough depth in its rotation (Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez, Ricky Nolasco) to trade Willis now and still be competitive next year.

His value will never be higher than it is right now, and the Marlins should take advantage of that.

There's a difference (at least to me) between realizing this is his "value maximizing" point and saying he "should be traded."

I agree with this article, there's plenty of pitching in the organization and this trade saves money while snatching a great player or two in return.

Cabrera on the other hand should be kept foeva!

I love him, but this is the point you cash out on him. Teams are pitching hungry and will overpay for him this offseason. Fill the lineup out and save $24 mil for the next three years (that'll pay for our whole team for one ;) )

This represents a nice change in attitude towards the Marlins. As opposed to saying that the Marlins are a worthless franchise that will do anything to sell off its assets, the article shows how it will be a good baseball move for the Marlins to move Willis.

"The Marlins could get the kind of top outfield prospect

that they need if they agreed to deal Willis."

I hope I'm misreading this and Buster isn't saying all Willis is worth is a top outfield "prospect". If the market is so pitching starved (which is his contention and if you read prosportsdaily or other baseball clipping services it appears there would be a line around the block to bid on DW) why settle for a prospect when he should bring an already established (read, one or two years service time) major leaguer.

Jettisoning Willis for what could possibly turn out to be the next Jeremry Hermida (you remember, the kid with a lock on the 2005 ROY) is too dangerous on too many levels. Team, marketing, fan support.

All this will do is fuel more NY New, Post, NJ Ledger, etc. rumors. By the end of the week it will be interesting to see how many hits the search - Willis...Milledge...Mets...Minaya - will bring.

I don't think the article was saying that they would be limited to only getting one prospect, but rather trading Dontrelle would be the means for them to get the outfielder they need. It doesn't mean that's all they can get. At least, that was my understanding.

I wouldn't mind trading the D-Train for high quality longterm options in center field AND the bullpen. Anything less, no way. I trust Beinfest will do the right thing with him. But....

....and to say the D-Train raises health concerns is a joke to me. The guy is a freakin horse. He is never injured, and to say the Marlins are going to be competitive next year without him is an even worser joke still. What makes anyone think Johnson, Olsen, or Sanchez will remain healthy throughout the entire season? And who is going to replace Willis, Mitre? If we added one piece to the bullpen puzzle from what we get in return from him, we're no closer to being competitive next year than this year. We're going to lose Borowski, who before faltering during the latter stages of the season, was very good for us. We need at least 2 more top notch relievers to do anything next year.
