Posted October 10, 200321 yr Sammy Sosa has an offseason home in South Florida, and this facet has not been an oversight by the Chicago meida. In this article from the Daily Southtown, they provide a real gem: Sosa ought to feel pretty comfortable at Pro Player Stadium, as well. The fans shouldn't be very hard on him, unlike Atlanta fans who chanted "check the bat" when Sosa broke a stick during the Cubs' first-round series against the Braves. The reference, obviously, was to Sosa's infamous bat-corking incident and subsequent seven-game suspension. "I don't care," Sosa said. "As long as they don't touch me." Still, Sosa expects a far different reception in Florida. "They're not going to do that," he said. "They're going to come here and enjoy the game." Why wouldn't they? They're Sammy's neighbors, after all. In another article, Sosa said that he is expected thousands of Dominicans to show up this weekend and wave Dominican Republic flags in support of him. Boy are they na?ve!!! I hope that you the Marlins fans going to Pro Player Stadium tonight give Sosa the reception that he really deserves. Instead of Dominican Republic flags, I expect you to greet Sosa with "CORK" shirts instead and other kinds of things that I cannot repeat here. Treat him the same way we White Sox fans do whenever the Cubs come to U.S. Cellular Field/Comiskey Park/Sox Park. Make his experience at PPS a living hell. I know you can do this. And when--not if, WHEN--he strikes out swinging, roar your a**es off.
October 10, 200321 yr I think you are naive. when i go to cubs games at the pro, its a little more crowded than usual b/c of all the sammy fans, and they are not cubs fans. just sammy fans. for the most part, people like sosa down here. they cheer crazyly when he does BP and when he comes to bat, but that was before the cork incident. i dunno about now
October 10, 200321 yr Author I think you are naive. when i go to cubs games at the pro, its a little more crowded than usual b/c of all the sammy fans, and they are not cubs fans. just sammy fans. for the most part, people like sosa down here. they cheer crazyly when he does BP and when he comes to bat, but that was before the cork incident. i dunno about now But those were regular season games. In previous seasons, when the Marlins were not in the hunt, there really wasn't a reason for Marlins fans to rail against Sosa. This time, the Marlins are going for the World Series with Sosa and the Cubs standing right in their way. Whatever previous love for Sosa on the part of South Floridians goes right out the window.
October 10, 200321 yr except by the Cubs fans that show up, oh he's definately getting booed. they booed Bonds to no end. If anyone was to get a bit of applause it would be Moises Alou for how he performed the last time the marlins were in the playoffs....
October 10, 200321 yr If anyone was to get a bit of applause it would be Moises Alou for how he performed the last time the marlins were in the playoffs.... Alou definately deserves some cheers from the So. FL fans, until he decides to hit the ball that is
October 10, 200321 yr I just got off the phone with a friend in Wheaton, IL and she said the Chicago media is claiming that PPS will be ONE-THIRD Cubs fans! I highly doubt that. 10-15 percent, maybe...I think the Tribune is on crack....
October 10, 200321 yr alou hates the marlins with passion lol remember when he was traded he threw away all his marlins stuff and made his kids throw away everytyhing they had of marlins. i remmeber i went to a houston astros game and we were waiting for alou to hit BP and to cheer and he never showed up on the visitors dugout and came o ut the marlins dugout so he wouldnt hear the cheers. he ignored everybody. not even one look.
October 10, 200321 yr I'll tell you guys something right now, and its the TRUTH. When the cubs play other teams, everyone is so lovable and nice to them. the other teams fans basically ignore them, and the cub fans that follow them cheer. thats fine. But when they play the SOX, WE ARE ON THEM EVERY SINGLE MOMENT. EVEN AT BP, were on the sides, yelling and calling them names and BOOING THEM and busting out Stats on them. THEY DONT LIKE IT. You can tell How Nervous they look just running sprints. Every time the pitchers ran to Right CF, the fans in RF would BOO and JEER them. when they got back to RF Corner, myself and a bunch of OTHERS WOULD YELL AT THEM. EVERY MOMENT FOLKS. after a while, they looked around at us, and they were very nervous and shocked. SAMMY wouldnt COME out til the last second and guess what he did?? HE WORE EARPLUGS!!!!!!! was the only time in his CAREER he ever did that!! and know why?? Because SOX FANS GAVE THEM THE BUSINESS every single moment. Sammy/the cubs think everyone loves them, and they deserve applause. Not on the South Side. and they know it. Basically, im saying WE GOT IN THEIR HEADS, dont let them think otherwise. Prior and Sammy even said they like to hear the CHEERS on the road.... "Makes us feel like were at home, relaxing and nice to hear that". STEP UP MARLIN FANS. I Stepped up Big time at the bar I was at. 3 of us were loud and did the "Lets GO MARLINS" chant, with the clapping at the end. IM pulling for you brothers. America wants the cubs my a**.....LETS GO FISH!
October 10, 200321 yr you guessd wrong buddy!!!, really, we're gonna make your life and your game a living hell GOT CORK???
October 10, 200321 yr I would LOVE to see a few Corky, cheater, or whatever chants you Marlin fans can muster up! SCAMMY is a head case when even .00000000000000001 percent of the crowd is against him, so let him have it from his first at bat on. America's team my butt. For sucking for 100 years you become America's team? I guess in 85 or so more years the Clippers will be "America's Team" with that BS logic.
October 10, 200321 yr Hangar is absolutely correct. And I truly believe that Corky did what he could to avoid being in the AllStar HR derby because it was at Sox park. Even at the AllStar game, when they announced Prior and wood at the beginning, we BOOED them loudly--it was amazing. GO MARLINS!!!!!!!
