August 1, 200917 yr In my frigde is a westvletern 12!!!! A friend of mine went to belgium and brought me back a bottle. I'm going to have it later tonight and I'll post a review. Over 3 months without a post? Unacceptable! I had to return just to restore some dignity to these forums and this thread! Dogfish Head Burton Baton Rating: 4/5 Aroma: 10/10 Appearance: 4/5 Flavor: 7/10 Palate: 3/5 Overall: 16/20 Bottle: Poured a reddish-tan with a finger tall head. Sweet smells of caramel and oak dominate the nose. If they ever make "man candles" I want mine to smell like this. First taste has a strong presence of alcohol with some of the caramel malt showing through. Oak is very present in the finish. This is a good beer but I agree with some of the others that this is more like a barley wine than an IPA as it doesn’t have that distinctive IPA hoppiness to it. Anyway - good beer. Gets a little hard to finish, but I’d get it again..
August 2, 200917 yr I have to agree with penguino. Blue Moon is for little girls.. and Bud Light? I guess Obama was hoping some blue collars would give him props for it.
August 2, 200917 yr I have to agree that Obama's choice of Bud Light was wrong on so many levels. Skipping past the obvious HORRIBLE taste, Anheiser Busch was purchased by InBev, a FOREIGN company. What does it say when the President of the United States of America chooses a foreign beer over superior American products? For God's sake, the Dogfish Head Brewery [my favorite craft brewer in America] is like an hour drive from the White House! Shame on Obama. Boo. Hiss.
August 3, 200917 yr They should have selected America's oldest brewer, Yuengling. Goose Island is great, I had some two weeks ago in Chicago.
August 3, 200917 yr yuengling would of been a great choice however, I can't fault him for going with the most consumed brand in the nation and the brand that has the highest production/distribution in this nation besides, if you wanted to get funny he could say he bought it out here in AZ where McCains wife has made a fortune distributing the stuff
October 24, 200916 yr In other beer news. Newcastle just came out with their own Draughtkeg. Its only available in certain markets, but should be national in the next few months. It is compatible with the Krups Beertender. I may actually get the beertender now. The price has dropped to about $99 and now you can have Heineken and Newcastle. There are also rumors of Guinness coming out with their own draughtkeg.
October 25, 200916 yr Does it have a CO2 intake? I haven't had the Heineken keg yet but I've glanced at it in the liquor store and it just seems like a bucket of beer to me. Or am I not thinking about the right thing? I thought you dispose of it yourself when it's empty instead of returning it back to the store like you would a normal keg. Each Draughtkeg has its own CO2 compressor inside the keg. Once you tap it, it stays fresh for 30 days. Gravity kegs only stay fresh for about 1 day. When you are done with the mini keg, you just throw it away. You dont need the beertender to have a Heineken draughtkeg. I've bought the little keg twice and the beer tastes great on draft.
October 28, 200916 yr Anyone like Pumpkin ales? Dogfish Punkin Ale (87) Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale (80)
October 28, 200916 yr I used to get Brown's Pumpkin Ale when I was in college, not so much anymore. Smelled like ... well ... pumpkin pie. Good stuff.
October 28, 200916 yr I'm dying for a good pumpkin beer. I brought a few people to my favorite beer place just because I was sure they would have some pumpkin beer but alas...none. So disappointed. I posted this in another thread but kind of a cool story..growing up my dad used to brew beer, did it for about maybe a year but then stopped because as he says he was getting to fat. Sold all his equipment (about $300-400 worth) to a good family friend of ours for 50 bucks, taught him a few things and the guy got really into it. Well fast forward nearly 15 years and my dad says oh I ran into Bob Gordash the other day, remember him? He quit his business and is now only brewing beer full time. The beer is Holy Mackerel which I love and is actually getting really popular down here. So if you ever see that beer pick some up, could be part of my dad's original recipe!
October 28, 200916 yr I'll be here at 1pm today http://www.loreleynyc.com/ :| *jealous* I'll be painting... BUT I *DO* have a Spaten Oktoberfest to raise up later! :thumbup BTW, this is the beer St. Sebestiaan I was asking you about, yankeefan. I didn't try it since you didn't know it, but maybe next time... I've never tried it. I looked it up and two of the guys with most similar tastes to mine gave it 3's. Clearly, there are better Belgian Strong Ales to be had, my friend! *cough* *CHIMAY* *cough* Yea I didn't get it, my night consisted of a grimbergen blonde ale (first time I tried it, pretty tasty but just too many great beers that I wouldn't order it again), St. Bernarndus apt 12 (my stand by fav), three philosophers (my other favorite) a Holy Mackeral ale draft, (which was kinda meh) and a really cute chick that was cute enough that I didn't mind the multiple tattoos ( I hate tats on a girl). HA, just did a search in this thread to see if I mentioned the beer before..had it over two years ago (damn time flies, I remember this night!) and I guess I wasn't too keen on it then, but trust me...it's good!
October 29, 200916 yr If I see it next time I'm in Florida I'll give it a taste. I'm trying to talk my lab into brewing our own double bock around Christmas time but I'm not sure it's going to happen.
November 29, 200916 yr Madcap Scottish brewing maestro Brew Dog, has launched the world's strongest beer to a volley of criticism from health chiefs. The 32% abv brew, called Tactical Nuclear Penguin (great name), takes over the mantle as the world's strongest beer from German concoction Schorschbraerm which weighs in at a measly 31% abv. The incredible strength was attained when the beer, which started life as a 10 percent imperial stout, was aged for 16 months in two different whiskey casks before being stored in a freezer at a ball-shriveling -20°C for three weeks. Though not everyone was impressed as we are. Chief executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland, Jack Law, told The Sun: "The fact that they have achieved a new world record is not admirable. "It is a product with a lot of alcohol in it - that's all. To dress it up as anything else is cynical." Fair point but the assertions are despite Brew Dog marketing the beer for connoisseurs, and advising people to drink it in short nips, like a spirit. Tactical Nuclear Penguin will be available to buy online and from two off licenses one in London and one in Edinburgh, at £30 and £250 which also buys you a share in the company and will go towards building a £2.3m "eco-friendly, carbon neutral brewery in Aberdeen". Strong beers and green credentials. http://www.asylum.co.uk/2009/11/27/worlds-strongest-beer-and-its-competitiors/
December 4, 200916 yr Not even sure how to explain this, but... I ended up with a 40 of Steel Reserve in my fridge. Anyways the Jets were playing last night and that is all I had so I cracked it open. Its does not taste very good, but one 40 of that is about a six pack of bud light. It's some strong stuff.
March 26, 201016 yr Its a travesty that I had to go four pages deep to find this... Anyways I bought a 6 pack of trappist beers today for the cool price of $35. Tomorrow I plan on drinking Rochefort 6, 8 and 10 in order after a long day of painting. I just cracked open a La Trappe Isid'or. Looks similar to a the chimay gran reserve, but is only 7.5%. Pretty delicious thus far.
March 28, 201016 yr Unfortunately it seems Godfather and YankeeFan have abandonded us. Hopefully some new contributors will step in. I've had the La Trappe Quad and Tripel, but I hadn't heard of the Isid'or. I'll have to see if stores carry it around here. I also might be going out to Chicago in a couple of weeks. If I make it out there, I'll report on some more Goose Island stuff. I've mentioned this here in the past, but they are one of my favorite domestic breweries. I cant find Goose Island anywhere near me. The strangest thing was a few weeks ago I was in Puerto Rico and the supermarket there had 6 different types of Goose Island. If they can ship beers to San Juan, why cant they ship to Boston or Providence? Anyways check out their Bourbon County Stout which checks in at 13%. I had their Oatmeal Stout in San Juan which was quite good. I've also had the Honkers Ale and their summer. I really hope they start expanding. Speaking of stouts, I have yet to find one that is better than Siberian Night. Hopefully some new posters will chime in.
March 28, 201016 yr After painting and sanding all day I now remember why Rochefort 10 is my favorite beer. Rochefort 6 isn't even in the same league as the 10. Its amazing how a beer that is close to 12% can hide its strength so well and taste so wonderful. I wish these suckers didnt cost $7.50 a bottle because I would only drink Rochefort 10 if it was reasonably priced. On a lighter note I found a video of Michael Jackson, the beer hunter not the singer, drunk on Conan. Quite funny
April 4, 201016 yr Actually you might be in luck if you want to find some Goose Island in MA. Apparently, they have been branching out into the Boston area. If you google around you might be able to find some. This is something that just started in the last two months or so. Here's a Ratebeer thread on it. You should be able to track down the Matilda, Pere Jacques, and the Bourbon County. I have sampled all three and thought they were all excellent. I just wanted to say I love you guys.
April 8, 201016 yr So I went to this bar/brewery place in Coral Gables called "Titanic Brewery". It's right next to UM, on Ponce De Leon and 58th. Anyway, they brew their own beers. I only tried two of them, an oatmeal stout and a nut brown ale. The brown ale was my favorite. I ended up getting a few of those. http://www.titanicbrewery.com/ontap.html

I dont think there is a better dollar per ratebeer.com rating out there. On rate beer its in the 100th percentile and cost about $1.89 a bottle. The Rochefort I had last weekend was $7.99 a bottle for the 100 rating. Thats some serious value.
April 9, 201016 yr Sorry if the answer to this question is contained within the previous 30 pages. Where does everyone buy good American craft brews in Miami? I live in Kendall and the best place I've seen is Sunset Corners on 72nd St and 87th Ave. They have a very good selection but it seems it could still be better and I'm running out of things to try. Any suggestions?
