May 3, 200719 yr It's been awfully quite all day today. Not sure if that is good or bad. Any news from the Senate or will we be having late night thread tomorrow like last year?
May 3, 200719 yr Lets hope its calm before a Marlins 9th Inning Rally - The quietness has us all worried a similiar result or last minute shutout may occur :banghead
May 3, 200719 yr maybe the no news is because they're still negotiating and getting something done. let's all pray.
May 3, 200719 yr Special Session from June 5-15. I would expect that it could appear there. I believe that in a special session they can only deal with the issue for which the session was called and if that's the case then they will not be allowed to deal with a baseball stadium during a property tax special session.
May 3, 200719 yr Jerry Del Castillo broadcast his show, la Descarga Deportiva, from Tallahassee this afternoon. He has had a chance to talk to many politicians from South Florida. Mayor Diaz (City of Miami) and Mayor Robaina (Hialeah) have been "working the Senators" hard. Representatives from Miami-Dade County are also there. He was probably told not to mention specifics, but Jerry's tone sounded very optimistic that the Senate will get to vote and actually pass the Marlins Stadium tax rebate. We can only hope!
May 4, 200719 yr We still have 1 full day left and I believe the rest of tonight is still working. Miracles can happen, but I think a miracle will not be required. The issue is do our wonderful Senators wake up tomorrow feeling good or bad.

I believe that in a special session they can only deal with the issue for which the session was called and if that's the case then they will not be allowed to deal with a baseball stadium during a property tax special session. I believe that is correct, but even if it's not I seriously doubt that they'll tackle the Marlins sales tax rebate issue during the special session. If it doesn't pass tomorrow, it's over in Tallahassee. But even with that setback, it wouldn't be a death blow, at least as I see it. The stadium deal could easily be done without the 30 Million from Tallahassee. This money to me is more a show of good faith and unamimity than someting that would cancel any deal.

If not tomorrow, we are done. I have little faith on this getting done, different year same story
May 4, 200719 yr Author A little over 14 hours to go....Anyone have any update. It's real quite so far today.
May 4, 200719 yr what time did the session start? just answered my own question Senate begins now at 10 a.m.
May 4, 200719 yr i think this issue is doom i donot think Senators want gave marlins that tax money so let see what marlins do next week their might go plan B that wont be good for miami
May 4, 200719 yr Chock this one up under Bad News: Likely dead: The perennial bill to seek state financing for a Marlins retractable-roof stadium will remain unresolved until the final hours of the final day. The measure has passed the House and awaits approval in the Senate but there is no sign it will be taken up. LINK THIS REALLY STINKS !!!!
May 4, 200719 yr From less than an hour ago on the AP: http://capefish.blogspot.com/2007/05/legis...nd-without.html So far, no one is committed one way or another. It seems like a Twilight Zone.
May 4, 200719 yr Author Yeah, this isn't looking good. Although nobody has come out and offically declared it dead yet, I really doubt anything will happen today. It sucks that they won't even hear the damn bill after voting for it last year. I hope i'm wrong, but I think once they agreed to have a special session for property taxes, the pro-Marlins House lost all leverage. Hope i'm wrong and we'll see a miracle today, but i'm not getting my hopes up.
May 4, 200719 yr The Special Session's agenda is set by the leaderships....they can do alot with it. They can even include the Marlins bit in a bigger tax bill. Omnibus bills are all the rage in Special Sessions. Now whether they will is another story.

It seems like a Twilight Zone. I guess it is positive that it was one of the only bills that is mentioned as still having some hope. Sounds like the pro-Marlins people are still plugging away up there. Hope they get something accomplished.
May 4, 200719 yr How long do we have until there is no time left... we have until the beginning of 2012 to get this stadium done right... but how long does it take to build a stadium and get everything ready?
May 4, 200719 yr How long do we have until there is no time left... we have until the beginning of 2012 right... but how long does it take to build a stadium and get everything ready. Lets start a Save the Fish before they are Homeless rally. I think 2010 is the last season at dolphin stadium.

May 4, 200719 yr 2010 is the last season the Marlins have rights to lease Dolphin Stadium for. So the 2011 season is the one they would be homeless for. The Marlins have their lease through 2008 right now, the 2009 option should be exercised December 31, 2007. The final option, for 2010, would be exercised on December 31, 2008. It takes about 3 years to build a ballpark, but some have been done faster.
