May 4, 200719 yr 2010 is the last season the Marlins have rights to lease Dolphin Stadium for. So the 2011 season is the one they would be homeless for. The Marlins have their lease through 2008 right now, the 2009 option should be exercised December 31, 2007. The final option, for 2010, would be exercised on December 31, 2008. It takes about 3 years to build a ballpark, but some have been done faster. Wow, we are really running out of time. Atleast we don't have to worry about the cold weather down here when they build. It's going to be heartbreaking if we don't figure something out soon.
May 4, 200719 yr The Special Session's agenda is set by the leaderships....they can do alot with it. They can even include the Marlins bit in a bigger tax bill. Omnibus bills are all the rage in Special Sessions. Now whether they will is another story. I doubt they will. forget about the state. . . .Time to put up or shut up. MLB, Marlins and local Government need to work on plan B. . . Or just move the team
May 4, 200719 yr Forget about moving the team, the other 29 MLB clubs will want a king's ransom for TV territory if they are encroached. The Astros have vetoed any team from moving to San Antonio. The Angels, A's, Dodgers, Padres, Giants, and D'Backs have done the same in Las Vegas. I believe Loria, the City of Miami, and Miami-Dade County may have to meet in the middle. Remember, the City and County were going for the rebate....not the Marlins.
May 4, 200719 yr Your guys state government really sucks ass. Tell us something we don't know. I once accidentally ate cow poop. ANYWAY, yeah not too many markets out there that could safely be moved to. Charlotte seems like the only one whos not really encroaching badly on anyone, off the top of my head.

Or you think uncle Wayne would lower the rent? I doubt it

I doubt it doubt that uncle wayne will do anything cause he doesn't want the Marlins in the building anymore..he wants it to be all dolphins all the time oh and super bowls
May 4, 200719 yr This stinks , it is funny there is a group of broward , palm beach represenatives and senators who dont understand the rebate or even worse dont want to understand it who are killing this . I am not a fan of Loria but I would not blame him if the Marlins moved which would suck because if they leave the state I no longer have a team to root for
May 4, 200719 yr i think this team will move that i was told if their donot pass the law their wont wait another year so go see them alot before their move out this state suck

O's and Nats have Charlotte along with the Braves and Reds. All will veto as they have big deals with FSN (ATL/CIN) and MASN (BAL/WAS) to protect. Would you all pop a Prozac and calm down? Loria wasn't riding on this rebate, the City and County were trying. It is not crucial.

May 4, 200719 yr Author From the Herald's blog: Villalobos' last-ditch attempt at Marlins? On one of the last issues on the Senate's agenda of the legislative session, Sen. Rudy Garcia, a Hialeah Republican and Sen. Alex Villalobos, a Miami Republican, stuck an amendment on a bill to expand Citizens, the state-run insurer. It would have allowed a new stadium for the Marlins, which isn't happening yet again this session. "Mr. President, I'm committed to the issue, as you can tell," Villalobos said. "I thought I'd try one more time." He conceded the amendment was fake and the Senate passed the Citizens bill with no debate. Posted by Stephanie Garry at 03:52 PM in State Senate Permalink | Comments http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/ Certainly sounds like the end of the bill this year. I really hope the Marlins give up on the state, I can't stand these people anymore. Every year it is the same thing, it passes in one chamber, dies in another. It is time to end this. The team, city, and county have to prove how much they really want to make this happen. If they are all committed to getting this thing built, $30 million shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
May 4, 200719 yr $30 million shouldn't be a deal-breaker. its not even a deal breaker, its a franchise breaker. Loria should have enough faith in this franchise to invest some more of the money he gets from the MLB into it. if he doesn't, he has no reason to own this team.
May 4, 200719 yr did session end? their leaving Session ends at around 6pm. The team is not leaving, get the idea out of your lexicon. There is a reason all has been quiet from the Marlins side.
May 4, 200719 yr Has anyone heard any contigency plans the marlins , county , city , may have had for what has just happened . I remember when Hialeah was making it's pitch it did not include any state money , has anyone heard anything at all ???????
May 4, 200719 yr Author did session end? their leaving Session ends at around 6pm. The team is not leaving, get the idea out of your lexicon. There is a reason all has been quiet from the Marlins side. And that reason would be? I'm with you though. This team is not leaving. There simply is no place better for them to go. MLB wants this market and you'd have to think that they have to be saying to themselves, "we are talking $30 million here, the amount most teams pay their 5th starter....if Loria and co. can't figure this out someone else can."
May 4, 200719 yr were do we go from here now that bill is dead for 6 year in row no one want to put rest of money????????
May 4, 200719 yr marlins donot want to wait any long their want get park started now not next year. if i see guy from marlins today at game i will report here what he told me
May 4, 200719 yr Marlins strike out in Tallahassee By Sarah Talalay and Linda Kleindienst Sun-Sentinel.com Posted May 4 2007, 4:18 PM EDT The Marlins have struck out in the Legislature again. The Senate adjourned Friday afternoon without taking up the request for a $60 million sales tax rebate to complete the financing for a new $490 million ballpark in Miami, despite the House's overwhelming 86-24 vote for the measure last week. LocalLinks Legislators said the bill was the victim of political wrangling between the two chambers in the final days of the session and a long-running feud between Sen. Rudy Garcia, R-Hialeah, and Sen. Alex Diaz de la Portilla, R-Miami, who both supported the measure, but couldn't agree on whose name would appear on the bill. The measure's failure is a significant blow to the team, Miami-Dade County and Miami city officials who thought the state would finally grant the funding on the sixth try in the past eight years. "It's very disappointing. I thought this was going to be the year," Miami Mayor Manny Diaz said Friday afternoon when it looked as if the bill wouldn't be considered by the Senate. "Everybody did." But as he did after the funding request wasn't heard in the Senate in 2005, Diaz vowed not to give up on completing a deal. "What happens is I'm going to go back and fight harder than ever to find a local solution to the building of the stadium and keeping the Marlins," Diaz said. "I think if we put our heads together, I think it can still be done."
May 4, 200719 yr i thought the session didnt end until 6pm? i call them after i see them happy at Senate house their told me their finish early
May 4, 200719 yr The City of Miami is in a holding pattern awaiting the University of Miami. Once the Hurricanes make their move, everything else will fall into place.
