May 4, 200719 yr How much have they spent on lobbying and efforts with the state? enough is enough! The City of Miami is in a holding pattern awaiting the University of Miami. Once the Hurricanes make their move, everything else will fall into place. So our future should be tied to a team that plays 6 games in the OB? What are the priorities? Enough is enough. Put up or shut up
May 4, 200719 yr City of Miami has put their priorities in this order: 1) Marlins 2) UM Problem is the location issue is now going to come full steam ahead. Once UM moves, this will get loud. Miami City Manager states Fish over UM in city priorities: http://capefish.blogspot.com/2007/03/playe...d-feelings.html
May 4, 200719 yr Has anyone heard any contigency plans the marlins , county , city , may have had for what has just happened . I remember when Hialeah was making it's pitch it did not include any state money , has anyone heard anything at all ??????? Jerry (Descarga Deportiva) just had Miami Mayor Manny Diaz on the radio during his show live from Tallahassee and Mayor Diaz said that in the next week or so, MLB, Marlins, County and City will be getting together to discuss what is the next step and that they do have alternate plans on how to get this done
May 14, 200719 yr Is there any updates on this situation? Since our Lease with Dolphin Stadium ends in 2010, we would need atleast 2 years to build our Ball Park.....I'm starting to get worried now.
May 14, 200719 yr we should no one want but money down that need to get it build i talk about 60million that we need help build it

I read in a few places that Wayne won't just let the Fish go homeless if they have a stadium deal in place. If something gets done this year and they break ground, Wayne could extend the lease one more year till 2011. Of course, a stadium deal HAS to be in place first.
May 14, 200719 yr Just another day going by with Loria making 1/4 million per game. If this goes on another 2 seasons after this one, he'll have banked around 160 million in profits. Fielding a team with an embarrasing payroll. and then expecting the public to build him a stadium. Oh well...maybe he'll decide to spend the 160 million in profits and be on his way to financing the stadium himself, like Joe Robbie.
May 14, 200719 yr This is truely heartbreaking to see the Marlins play in a football stadium plastered with Dolphin Colours in front of 17,000 die-hard fans. Getting a new stadium being built will be the happiest moment in my young life as of right now.

Loria will get his stadium, then after next year, gut the team again, make more profits and people will write about his right to make as much profit as he can without responsibility to put a proven product on the field. I can hear it now, little Samson in his weasel voice saying "you will learn to love the new players just like you did the old ones".

I wouldn't doubt that scenario, That's what pisses me off about the Marlins ownership. They fire our Manager because they don't want to win basically. I wish I could buy this ball club.
May 15, 200719 yr Actually I always figured that once Loria got the stadium he would sell. Hell, he could sell right now. The franchise has the lowest value in baseball(at $244 million). Anyone know any billionaires with some $$ to throw around?

May 15, 200719 yr Bill Gates anyone? Donald Trump? Maybe than we could have a $100 Million dollar payroll and be able to keep all the great players we lost over the last 3 years.
May 15, 200719 yr James Goodnight has $5 billion laying around for a rainy day. Plus, we would have the owner with the coolest name in the history of everything.
May 15, 200719 yr Just because people have money doesn't mean they will spend it on the team. Say Trump buys the team, we still wouldn't have a 100 million payroll if it can't be supported by team revenue.
May 15, 200719 yr I understand it's not a big baseball market, but looking towards the future they need to keep the following players. Cabrera, Hanley, Hermida and Jacobs. I'm not sure on which pitchers they should lock up. Everyone will say Dontrelle, but he will be too much of a bargaining chip to hold on to. They will probably go with JJ, Mitre and Olsen.

I dont think Jacobs is a "must keeper", neither is Mitre(who I dont think will be back next year now that he actually has some trade value). D-Train will be dealt eventually IMO. Cabs, Hermida, Hammer(because of his bat and versatility to a degree...he could play either corner-maybe not adequately but still, 1B, 3B if he had to, and C if he had to), Hanley, Scotty O, JJ, Tank, Kensing, and Martinez are the players that you build around and add to IMO.
May 15, 200719 yr I can see us moving Dontrelle for a 3-4 rotation pitcher, a big bat and a prospect.
