May 27, 200717 yr Sometimes you need to look at game logs when judging players in the PCL and while I realize a 4.17era is nothing special, that is what his era is when you remove his back to back starts where he was shelled. In his last 3 starts, he has a 3.68era and while his walks are up, his hits are way down. He isn't even allowing a hit an inning. Opposing hitters are batting .244 against him. But even so, the reason why you can't give up on this guy yet is....... HE'S 22 YEARS OLD. Some of you need to slow down and think for a second. Not every pitcher is going to be a DTrain or a Kazmir or whatever right out of the minor leagues. Sometimes there needs to be an adjustment period. And for the record, Petit had 1 spot start this year in the bigs, and he went 7ip 4h 2r(2er) 0bb 5k .167baa I appreciate the fact that he is 22 years old and still may need time to develop. But what I am judging my opinion on is that after watching him pitch, his stuff isn't good enough to be anything more than a #5/AAAA starter. There just isn't much of a track record for success for guys who throw under 90 mph, with an average at best breaking pitch and struggles with command. To me, Petit is Obermueller. An occasional starter/long relief pitcher. Maybe he develops into something more, I just don't see it. As for Petit's one start this year, its such a small sample size, you can't judge anything based on that. Obermueller has had some decent starts this year as well, but that still doesn't mean I want him in my rotation. Fair enough
May 27, 200717 yr Wow, tough crowd. Wes has done a respectable job for us this year.. dont know what you expect.
May 27, 200717 yr Quotable: "He's back in the rotation ... unless we trade for the Rocket [Roger Clemens] or something." -- Gonlazez, when asked if Wes Obermueller would make his next schedule start Flamarlins.com
May 27, 200717 yr The problem with Obermueller is that he has no stuff and doesn't throw strikes. You can get by without amazing stuff if you can stay ahead of hitters but Wes is just going to be pitching batting practice unless he learns how to keep ahead of hitters. It was easy to see why Delgado hit two homers yesterday. I'm honestly surprised a team with as good of hitters as the Mets did not hit more.
May 27, 200717 yr Obermueller is the 8th starting pitcher on the team's depth chart, what does anyone expect? This team needs to keep hanging in until all of the regulars get back, and they've don'e a decent job of it.

May 28, 200717 yr Why don't the Marlins talk to the Blue Jays about John Thomson who's rehabbing in AAA. He doesn't make much money and he's a lot better than Obermueller is or ever will be.

Kewl, and he gets put on waivers and the organization loses him. Then when #9 sucks even worse, we can't change our mind and go back.

Depending on how he does over the next couple weeks, either he or B. Kim gets sent to the bullpen and Gardner gets sent back down to AAA when JJ returns. My guess is that Obermueller will end up back in the bullpen.
May 29, 200717 yr To be fair, Obermueller was facing the best offense in the league. The Mets have put a lot of runs on better pitchers than Wes this year. Uhh... so was Mitre. Obermueller..ehh never liked him. Him and Pinto should go, they are batting practice pitchers.
