Game 1: Louisville currently up 10-4 over Rice in the top of the 5th.

Washington Nationals draftee Zack Pitts on the mound for Louisville.

14-10 Rice in the bottom of the 8th

14-10 Rice now.

Magnunson has looked awful. Dont really see why Louisville brought their closer in in the 8th to begin with.

Louisvilles offense will have to step up to get out of this.

The lack of interest in college baseball is interesting isnt it?

Im guilty of it myself.

What are your thoughts on why college basketball and football are such powerhouses and baseball isnt?

maybe its because most of the games arent televised while basketball and football are everywhere. especially big ten/sec/acc/big east/big 12 etc.

also maybe its the players. I mean you dont have an NFL without college football. Majority of basketball players picked in the NBA draft are from college, but baseball, most of the guys that make it to the bigs never went to college

fishfan makes a couple of good points. Games arent often televised and the college guys dont go straight to the majors so the casual fan doesnt care as much. I dont think there is much better than college baseball. Obviously theres nothing like sitting in Doak Campbell Stadium or any major college football stadium about 6 times a year but sitting at college baseball games throughout the season was quite possibly my favorite thing. Another thing that might play a part is in college it isnt always the major schools that succeed. One year at UF, they made it to the championship series and the entire campus was bragging about how great baseball was, but the last two years theyve been below .500 so everyone just claims "baseball doesnt matter, nobody cares about baseball."

So now its my Tar Heels vs. Oregon State for the second year in a row. Carolina has had their backs against the wall all postseason; they beat Substandard Carolina in game 3 of the Super Regional, and has won 3 elimination games in a row in Omaha to make it back to the Finals. They have a little extra incentive now (as if they needed it) because of how Oregon State came back to win last years final. This should be fun.

To the question of why it isnt as popular as other college sports: to me, metal bats take alot away from it.

Im so confused. I was about to congratulate you in a different thread but instead you were talking up YOUR Canes.... I hope the Heels take the rematch this year.

Explain to me how the metal bats have a negative effect on the games.

That comment is ridiculous, they take nothing away from the game, and it's a shame that college baseball isn't more popular because year in and year out the CWS is one of the most exciting events in sports.

i know a lot of people who don't like the college game due to the metal bats - purists and such

well, if they can't get past the metal bats that take away nothing from the games then I guess it's their loss then.

Put me in the category that does not enjoy college baseball due to the metal bats. I absolutely loathe that sound. *TTTIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiNnkKKKK*

One of the most annoying noises in the world.

Sorry.

I dislike it because even though collegiate players are further along in their development, the fact that the transition from metal to wood can be difficult means collegiate players can take just as long to reach MLB as their high school brethren, but will be anywhere from 2-4 years older.

Fickle, I know.

Yeah its kinda weird, since Im a Carolina student whos grown up in Miami. Im a Canes football/baseball fan since Ive gone to so many games at The Bowl/The Light. But my #1 obsession has always been Carolina basketball, so because of that, and because I now go there, Ive become a fan of all Carolina teams.

I think a good reason is because College football and basketball have great atmospheres that can overcome the lack of athleticism and talent. College baseball really doesnt have that. Also CFB and CBB generally coincide with the pros; CFB and NFL both start in the fall and end in January, CBB has its postseason right around the playoff push in the NBA. College Baseball starts in February, when nobody is thinking baseball yet and CBB starts heating up, and wraps up in June, when most people are usually still fixated on the NBA Finals (this year being an exception) and just starting to pay attention to baseball. College Baseball is always overshadowed, which is a shame, because Im a huge fan of the sport and love the Regionals/CWS.

So you dont like it because they arent immediately MLB ready? Its you own reason, so thats certainly fair, just seems strange to me. I happen to love the sound of the bats, after going to enough college baseball games with a great atmosphere the sound of those bats just begins to represent something great.

I think college baseball has a GREAT atmosphere, in certain places at least. It is different than football as far as the amount of people at games of course which would certainly make it seem smaller and basketball youve got constant noise and people jumping up and down. In Tallahassee, youve pretty much got constant noise at baseball games and it was always an amazing place to be. You guys dont have a bad atmosphere with Boshamer which Im pretty sure was just recently being renovated. A bunch of other schools in the Southeast have some great atmospheres as well, such as Arkansas. I used to love watching games at the Light as well until recently when they started renovations and got rid of their old concessions (the skirt steak guy).
