June 28, 200718 yr hermida will never amount to anything except garbage I'm not the biggest Hermida guy but are you freaking kidding me? I was about to say the same thing as you. But Hermida is going to take his lumps in here from the kiddies. It will pass as soon as he finds his swing. Then everyone will always have loved this guy. Until he goes into a slump, then everyone will... You get the picture.
June 28, 200718 yr How dare you pick on someone who's only 23! I'm just kidding. Enough excuses from me. Hopefully by the time he's 28 he will be a little more clutch. So hopefully he'll become more of an intangible thing that most people agree doesn't exist in any way that impacts the game in a dramatic way over the course of a career?

For the record, and I think I've made it evident, I've never thought as highly of him as most, even when he was lighting it up when he first came off the DL.
June 28, 200718 yr I heard, this one time, a kid asked Hermida for his autograph, and instead he gave him cancer. Hermieda gave me an autograph........ lol, it was at the fanfest before last season.
June 28, 200718 yr Too bad you guys helped run Girardi out of here. (Anyone remember the hatred towards Girardi all over this board last season? He made a few mistakes, which is to be expected from ANY 1st year manager, yet you treated him like a 30-year veteran manager. Pathetic excuse for Fish fans. But karma's a b!tch. He won NL Manager Of The Year, and now this year you're doing the same thing to Freddy in his first season as a manager.) It's all just proof that a vast majority of you 1) will never be satisfied with anything, and 2) incorrectly assume you're a bunch of know-it-alls.

I doubt anything said on this board affected Joe Girardi's staying or leaving the Florida Marlins :lol
June 29, 200718 yr Jeremy Hermida is up to bat and the most common sound you hear is WHIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF! Maybe when he's 30 he will adjust to major league pitching. :whistle :banghead :mischief2 :mischief2
June 29, 200718 yr I heard, this one time, a kid asked Hermida for his autograph, and instead he gave him cancer. I've gotten 5 or so Hermy autographs, and am proud to announce: I'm still cancer-free.

Maybe when he's 30 he will adjust to major league pitching. :whistle :banghead :mischief2 :mischief2  Really? I'm going to take this completely literally. In order for the most common action that Hermida makes at the dish to be a "whifffffffetc", he would have to strike out more than 50% of the time. He has 168 total plate appearances this season, and has 43 strikeouts. Thats about 28 percent of his total plate appearances. He'd need to have struck out 85 times this year for you to be correct.. Now, I wouldn't exactly say he's completely adjusted to major league pitching yet (though he's had some bad luck), so you may be sort of right there, but even giving you the benefit of the doubt there, you are like 24% off. Thats not even close.

Thats not even close. Im pretty bored right now.... So Ill say not necessarily. Could be more, could be less. Im assuming whiff is him swinging and missing. Well, he can swing and miss twice in an at bat without even striking out. But he can also strikeout without swinging and missing at all. He can compile strikes looking or fouling a ball off. So to be most accurate I think youd need to go with swings and misses compared to all pitches he has seen.

June 29, 200718 yr Scot Olsen .276 Matt Treanor .273 Miguel Olivo .247 Jason Wood .246 JEREMY HERMIDA .221 He is nowhere near league average. Show me a team with a batting average under .221. You better look really hard.....because their isn't one.

You better look really hard.....because their isn't one. Batting average tells you exactly how good a player is because it takes walks and extra base hits into account. Oh, wait... Just for fun, here's a list of league average or below baseball players based on their batting averages: Harmon Killebrew Mike Schmidt Adam Dunn Daryl Strawberry Richie Sexson Pat Burrell Troy Glaus And for some more fun, here's a list of above average baseball players based on Batting average: Willy Taveras Juan Pierre David Eckstein Shea Hillenbrand Chone Figgins Terry Pendleton B.J. Surhoff One of those is a list of people who are good at baseball. The other is a list of people who are not so good at baseball. Can you guess which one is which?

I'm not going to argue, because he's now below average in OPS too. But to say he's below average because he has a .220 BA and ignore that he walks like 10% of the time and has a decent amount of extra base hits, is ignorant.
