June 30, 200719 yr Its come to a point for the first time in ages that i don't look forward to watching a Marlins game anymore. I rather go hangout than turn my tv and watch them loose.
June 30, 200719 yr another thing... I had season tickets in 1998, and I don't think I ever felt as sh*tty about a game as I did last night.
June 30, 200719 yr To me, I'm more amazed that this team did as well as it did last season, especially when you consider how bad the bullpen was, than anything else. Maybe there was a reason Girardi won MoY ? Maybe there is just a little more to being a manager than in-game coaching ? (note the sarcasm). I'm not convinced Freddi even has his heart into this gig yet. Why hasn't he moved his family to Miami yet ? That to me is a clue he doesn't intend to be here long....either expects to get fired or leave for a better gig if he has some success....perhaps succeeding Cox in Atlanta ?

You cant blame it entirely on the manager as he can only do so much. The manager does not go out there and play for them. I would like to see more emotions shown by him but than again we do not know what happens behind close doors.
June 30, 200719 yr The game was so pathetic last night that I look at it this way: We can't possibly play that poorly tonight.
June 30, 200719 yr Im pretty sure, if anything, Fredi's "got his heart here".... Girardi had Josh Johnson, Anibal, Nolasco, etc.... If you think its Girardi that made those guys pitch as well as they did, Id be willing to bet thats wrong. If those guys are here pitching like they did last year I think we're over .500
June 30, 200719 yr Its come to a point for the first time in ages that i don't look forward to watching a Marlins game anymore. I rather go hangout than turn my tv and watch them loose. Unfortunately I feel the same way. I couldn't wait to see the games last year, if I wasn't at the game in person. This year I don't have much motivation to go to any game, because I'm afraid I'll pick a gme like the one last night, and just feel I threw my money down the drain. Something has to give soon.....MLB can't let this franchise just mire in the mud like this for much longer. Tough decisions have to be made and I think the nasty spectre of "contraction" will be on the horizon. I think Loria would actually rather do that and get compensated for contraction than sell the team to another owner. His ego couldn't take it if another guy got the stadium built and he couldn't do it. It would show that it was his fault all along.

June 30, 200719 yr ditto Jacobs, although I think he's more subpar defensively than anyone realizes...at least at fielding his position. He showed that twice in a row last night I havent noticed much of what people say about Jacobs defensively here, but people did seem excited about his return to first base to get Boone off first defensively. So you're probably right, he approaches a hard hit ground ball to either of him like a little leaguer.
June 30, 200719 yr another thing... I had season tickets in 1998, and I don't think I ever felt as sh*tty about a game as I did last night. ((((SIGH))))) Yeah...its not fun being a Fish Fan right now. This is about as low as I have been in a while. I am getting the feeling like we had that surge last year, this team is getting ready to go on an epic losing period....no reason why I feel that way....just a gut feeling. I hope we don't do something like 10-35 but I just have a feeling its gonna get real ugly around here. :confused :banghead
June 30, 200719 yr Since this appears to be the place to comment on the Marlins generally and specifically last night's game, a few: 1. Miguel Cabrera looks significantly thinner than he did two weeks ago, or even a week ago. Clearly he got the message and is addressing it. :thumbup 2. Josh Johnson's pitches, while too many were up, look better than at any time this season. His velocity seemed up, a lot, last night, his sinker, while still under his command had filthy drop last night when it was working - if he keeps the ball down consistently he'll be fine. He should of had at three or four more starts in the minors before being called up. I said it then and I'm saying it again. Big mistake - for him and the team. 3. I would agree Mike J. should/could have fielded one of the two smashes hit past him but one of them no one was getting to. He isn't Superman and people continue to have ridiculous notions about what is possible on a ball field. 4. Brett Carroll may be a fine major leaguer one day but he isn't right now. He's had his taste ala Van den Hurk, sent himback down and let him work on what he needs to where it won't affect the outcome of games. 5. As I did with Girardi, I'm not commenting on Fredi until after the ASG, but it's hard not to based on what we've seen so far this season. 6. I don't we'll recognize this team in 2008.

I would like to see more emotions shown by him but than again we do not know what happens behind close doors. True, but it does seem there is not the urgency to play hard like the guys had last year. maybe its they have become comfortable, knowing they are gonna be the starters and not worrying about being replaced. That could be the reason a lot of guys through the ages have the "so-called" Sophomore Slump. Our guys have taken that to heart.
June 30, 200719 yr The game was so pathetic last night that I look at it this way: We can't possibly play that poorly tonight. Lets hope not...I can't fathom watching more than a couple of innings of that again
If those guys are here pitching like they did last year I think we're over .500 Well hasn't shown me yet he does. Girardi moved his family here....Cam Cameron moved his family here the week after being hired by the Dolphins.....Trent Green moved his family here the week after being traded by KC to the Dolphins. Freddi was hired 8 months ago.....school has been out more than a month in Atlanta. His mother, father and syblings and their families all live here, and his wife is from South Florida as well.....then why hasn't he moved his family here ? Why would a man want to live that many months apart from his family ? Something smells with that. :mischief2
June 30, 200719 yr I know we werent at all close last night, but there were a few balls that Andruw Jones caught that would have been homers in some other parks. I remember Cabrera, Uggla, and Jacobs all had balls caught on the warning track, so at least the top half of our order is getting some good swings in. On the other hand, I am sick and tired of Carroll playing. I know he's young and you guys will reply saying he'll improve in time, but right now, he has no business being on a major league roster.

I agree about Carroll, but over the last few days threads seem to pop up praising Carroll for getting better and better every day. He's made some nice plays in the field, but people are trying too hard to latch onto some sort of hope claiming Carroll is getting better daily.

Something smells oh so fishy about that. Is it a requirement to move your family in this case? Especially when you'll be living up there for the offseason anyway? Sheezus, people are grasping at air on here.
June 30, 200719 yr Carroll hasn't been amazing but I think he's better at the plate then he has shown. He's hit the ball on the button, And although he has a lot of strikeouts, they're actually "legit" strikeouts instead of Olivo/Abercrombie "Jesus Christ I can't believe they swung at that" strike outs. Well hasn't shown me yet he does. Girardi moved his family here....Cam Cameron moved his family here the week after being hired by the Dolphins.....Trent Green moved his family here the week after being traded by KC to the Dolphins. Why would a man want to live that many months apart from his family ? Something smells with that. I don't know, maybe because his family is accustomed to where they live and don't want to move? It's not like it's uncommon...inface it's probably more common then someone who makes their family move with them. Would be best to look for conspiracy theories elsewhere
June 30, 200719 yr On Fredi not moving his family, I don't see that as a test of his loyalty or commitment. It may say something about the uncertainty surrounding the franchise's location in the future. I would think as a parent his primary consideration is keeping his school age children in a stable environment. You don't want to move kids that age around from the place they're comfortable in, and move them to a new location that may not be permanent, and then face moving them again in the next few years. It's speculation though. Even if the Marlins future location was secured here 100%, he and his wife probably feel it's best to keep their children within the location thay they are presently in.
June 30, 200719 yr I'd say I'm surprised that he doesn't live down here given that he has family in the area and a multi year deal (and a deal that should see itself to completion before we're playing in San Antonio). But I don't care...not a big deal, just kinda odd.
June 30, 200719 yr 5. As I did with Girardi, I'm not commenting on Fredi until after the ASG, but it's hard not to based on what we've seen so far this season. 6. I don't (think) we'll recognize this team in 2008. As I have said before 2003, I value your opinion on this board. Two very interesting points. I'll be interested to hear what you have to say come July 11th & what exactly do you mean about 2008 ? More rookies again ? or what ?
June 30, 200719 yr I wonder what would be our record if we had our new stadium by now. :confused Who knows and I wonder if it would really be any different. Loria supposedly has given hints that he'll not spend money even with a new stadium. I think as long as he is the owner, its always going to be a struggle. God Damn you Bug Selig.....why send Loria here and let washington have a new owner ????? That was a colossal mistake on his part.
June 30, 200719 yr Why hasn't Miguel Cabrera moved his entire family here? Something smells oh so fishy about that. Is it a requirement to move your family in this case? Especially when you'll be living up there for the offseason anyway? Sheezus, people are grasping at air on here. Miguel's wife and children live here. Most men would want to be around their kids more than half the year. He only gets to live in Atlanta from November through January. He's in Florida from February through October. That is to me strange....and its a sign to me he's not sure about the Marlins job (lets face it Loria is on his 4th manager in 6 seasons of ownership here) or he doesn't plan to be here longterm, but is already eyeing that Atlanta job when Cox retires.

It's not like it's uncommon...inface it's probably more common then someone who makes their family move with them. Would be best to look for conspiracy theories elsewhere Not a consiracy theory, just a plain fact bro. I think it looks bad. It also says something about the future. Perhaps he was told by management, "we want you for the longterm, but don't move your family to So Fla, because we won't be there for long". I would like to hear him address this issue....it would be interesting to hear his explaination.
