Why not try

Recommended Posts

I realize he hasn't been all that lights out either giving up about as many hits as innings pitched, BUUUUTTT, the guy has given up one HR all season, an for all intents and purposes, has at least done better than Benitez who is struggling there. I think the guy has been doing a solid job, and might just as well as anyone get a shot in the 8th Inning spot. I wouldn't mind Tank doing it either, but I think having struggled enough to get sent down earlier, he should at least put in some more solid Innings before going back to Setup man.

Because he throws straight fastballs

Like Benitez. Matt has a lot better slider. Benitez just hangs it there. Look, Mando always makes you worry-even when he gets the outs I am never comfortable. And in many of his successful outings, the ball has been hit very hard, but luckily right at someone. He will be ulcer inducing all year long. No doubt if you move him for his current role, he will pout, but that is for the psychology thread.

I don't think Mando deserves a demotion. He's been pretty solid for us, all in all, and he's better served being in a role where he can start an inning, Miller (who, for my money is our best reliever) is just too versatile and capable to waste for a start and finish inning.

What I think a lot are forgetting is that we really tried to lose the game in the 7th before Tank and Miller bailed the team out.

I'd like to think that how the team is managed would have more to do with what gives us the best chance to win, not what any one player deserves.

As far as I'm concerned, we are playing for next season (barring this team doing a complete 180)

I have nothing against Armando Benitez, and if we were legitimately in the race, I would want him in the 8th inning....

since we aren't I would either like to see Justin Miller get more meaningful innings (even though he has come in alot in tight spots) and see if we can get his trade value to peak sometime soon

if not Miller, then I would like to see Tank or Lindstrom or Pinto or KMart or one of the young guys try and establish themselves as the 8th inning guy and get that confidence heading into 2008

I hate it how when a guy gives up a HR its DEMOTION TIME.

Its baseball. It happens. Mando has been very servicable thus far. He made a bad pitch and we lost.

Tonights a new night.

I understand where you're coming from, but at the same time, it's not the first time's come up and struggled to get any outs, let alone give up the game.

Let me ask a different question - how many blown saves (vs holds or saves) should it take before a late inning reliever gets shuffled to another job?

Not sure I understand why you would want to trade our best reliever. Wouldn't you want to keep him for next year?

I like Miller Time alot, but he is having a huuuuuge fluke season. I mean he was absolutely terrible in his 2 previous stints in the league (I know it's 3, but one was just 2.3ip) And it's not like he was all that amazing in the minor leagues either.

His pervious stints in the majors was mostly as a starter on bad Toronto teams and I disagree about his minor league stats. His Stats at Syracuse was under 3 and his stats at Sacramento (as a starter) was just over 4 in a hitters park in a hitters league. His lifetime ERA in the minors is less that 3.5 and he was an allstar twice. In the majors he has always shown the ability to get the strikeout and it was his walks that got him in trouble. I think changing him to a full time reliver plays to his strength.

Yea, but he's lights out now and can pitch in almost any relief situation (long relief, matchups, runners on, etc.). That has to count for something. I think he's worth keeping. Maybe he just didn't like Canada...or maybe the fact that he was primarily used as a starter through 2004, and didn't really pitch in the majors again until 2007 has something to do with it.

He'll cool off. But like Ramp said, give him some more meaningful innings (aka the 8th) and boost his trade value. Might be worth something down the line in a Willis package.

we need to play and develope our relief pitchers for all the talk of potential virtually none of them are eason pro's owen's has been hurt most of the year , tank has been hurt , sent to minor's now is back , k-mart and Logan injured and very little experience so far only Lindstrom has maintained his health i say throw him out there in the eigths we have very little to lose as this homestand is the death knell in our season

Meh... everyone in the majors has an ERA better than 3.5 in the minors.

If we are able to get something remotely cool for him, he needs to be sent out. I give him about a 10% chance to have even close to this good a season next year.

i really don't like the way tank is being used. i think he's much more valuable than a specialist.

Righties get on base off him at a .459 clip and I don't know what tells you but it tells me he can't get right handed hitters out which makes him a leftie specialist.

Last year his OPS vs righties is .681 and his OPS vs lefties is .668

the walks are a bit much, but he is no LOOGY

Trade him and I give him a 75% chance he will be a save leader next year. Only time will tell, he certainly is not the first player to turn his career around. Once again I say he is playing a differant role than the past, so I think its for real.

benitez has a bad game (3 overall) and he should be demoted?

hermida has a very bad fielding mistake thats costs multiple runs 2 or 3 times a week and he should stay right where he is?

With all due respect, I think most people who are calling for both's heads would have cut Hermida weeks ago.
