Both the Braves and Marlins have been through rough times in the Midwest. With each team not faring well in the past week, they meet in Dolphin Stadium in Florida for the first of three games on Monday night.

 

The Marlins are currently winning the season series 7-5 with six games remaining between each other, with a 3-3 record against the Braves at home.

 

The Atlanta sports outlook has been gloomy as of late between the Michael Vick guilty plea in the dogfighting case and the Braves playoff hopes quickly vanishing into nothing. The Braves, now five games back of the Phillies for the NL Wild Card, hope to snap a two game losing streak tonight, as they start the last leg of a 10 game road trip.

 

The Braves, coming off a series loss to the defending champion Cardinals in St. Louis, hope to have better luck from their so far 2-5 road trip with Lance Cormier. Cormier (0-4, 9.00 ERA) was seen before the season as the hidden jewel in the Braves rotation, but injuries slowed his 2007 debut and turned it into a disaster. He has never defeated the Marlins in five appearances and three starts, going 0-2 against Florida. This is his first start against the Marlins this year.

 

Mark Teixeira, acquired from Texas at the trading deadline, has hit 10 homers and knocked 30 runs in since coming to Atlanta, but despite the fanfare, has not been much help in the Braves efforts to stay in playoff contention.

 

Brian McCann, who drove in the Braves sole run in a 4-1 loss Sunday, is not expected to start Monday night due to a day off.

 

The Marlins playoff hopes are long gone, and a 57-74 record, tied with Houston for worst in the National League, has not helped things. Just a year off from the 78-84 Marlins which surprised many in the baseball world, the 2007 team, losing 11 of their last 12, is struggling to stay out of last place.

 

Still mulling over being swept by the Reds, the Marlins rely on Scott Olsen (9-11, 5.39 ERA) to start a six game homestand on a good note. Losing his last two starts and four of his last six, Olsen is looking for his first win against the Braves after going 0-1 in three tries this year. Olsen is 7-4 at home with a 4.40 ERA in 14 starts.

 

Dan Uggla is showing signs of life with two homers and four RBI's in the last two games in Cincinnati after just one RBI in nearly three weeks before Saturday's game.

The Braves, as usual, played terribly in the Midwest this weekend. Marlins caught a few bad breaks and the two teams will meet at the Ballpark in Marlington in Miami for the first of a three game beating by the Fish on Monday night.

Yeah, the "Bad Newz Baseball" thing was actually very clever on your part, given Atlanta's situation with Vick and the whole Bad News Bear thing, which truly is getting a bit old.

 

And I hope my edit didn't bother you at all, but it was just a little too "bravey" for a Marlins game thread. I couldn't edit anything at the end in good conscience, it was just too well written.
