Apparently, ex-Phillie's players claim that there is a camera in centerfield that steals signs, relays them to a video guy in the clubhouse, and that guy relays them to the Phils coaches, who have code words for each pitch. The Mets felt like the Phillies were doing it for the first couple games of the series. They alerted Bob Watson, who came to the third game, I believe and took the centerfield camera. He reported no misgivings.

 

Also, Eskin stated that Brett Myers went up to a Mets player before one of the games and said, "Low run input last night, the camera was broke," or something to that effect. Eskin also said the he 100% believes that it is true and that he had just got off the phones with Mets officials, who also are going to further the issue.

 

Getting swept would do that to you.

Couldn't they just use the high center field shot from Comcast SportsNet (the one that you see from home) on a nice big HDTV to do the same thing?

The way they suggest it would take way too much time and would be highly ineffective. Besides that, believe it or not, stealing signs, even electronically, is not explicitly against the rules. The only rule that it could break is 21(f), the Misconduct rule, which just gives the commissioner broad power to enforce penalties for "conduct not to be in the best interests of Baseball."

Well, most parks I've seen have the game running on the TVs underneath the upper deck with all of the graphics and there is a slight lag (albeit not nearly as bad as the one I see between cable and dish TV). I have no idea what kind of set-up they have in the clubhouse of an MLB team.

 

Either way, I don't see how there is enough time to pull that relay move off.

It wouldn't be that hard to have a nice HD monitor somewhere at CBP with a Comcast feed (Phillies don't have their games with anyone else but Comcast Cable) that would accomplish the same thing to help steal signs.

 

MLB may have to impose a delay of a few seconds if this is truly a concern.

And the insinuation that we Mets fans feel the entitlement to winning is absurd, it undermines the entire history of the team. The fact is, the sentiment amond Mets fans is completely opposite. I feel lucky to see my favorite team play so well. I think there's no excuse for this team not to make the playoffs or lose four straight to the Phillies as they are flat out better than everyone else in the NL, but I will always remember what it was like being a Mets fan when things weren't so great.

Replace "Mets" with "Yankees" and "Phillies" with "Orioles" and I feel the same exact way. I don't know that I think we're the best in the AL any more, but there was a time not so long ago...

 

Anyway, IF the Phillies are using an OF camera at home, they are cheating. Period. And, if they ARE cheating, you know they aren't just cheating on the Mets.

Stealing signs isn't against the rules, is it? They just need to make their signing more secure.

That was pure gamesmanship. And Aki's wasn't because of "possible cork". It was because "his bat was illegally pointed". Even though it's the same bat he used all year, the Skanks had faced him 14 games previous, and he came back out with the same kind of bat.

 

And he hit a home run the next game with the new bat. Bet Torre's regretting that move.
