I would've liked to see a little more from the offense tonight, but Pettitte was pretty unstoppable. Still, mission accomplished for the Marlins. They get the split on the road.

 

They've got Beckett pitching Game 3, and Pavano in Game 4.

 

A question has to be asked, does Mark Redman have his best stuff anymore? He hasn't looked particularly sharp in any of his playoff starts thus far...

 

He might be slated for a Game 5 or Game 6 start right now. At this point I'd consider using Brad Penny or even Dontrelle Willis.

if somebody doesnt give Matsui the option to swing 3-0 this game doesnt play out the same way...

It wasn't a hit run, they started louie on the 3-2, figuring pudge is going to put in play or walk. Pudge got fooled on a breaking ball, it happens. The real problem was castillo thought pettite was throwing over, broke back to the bag, then took off, you can't spot a guy 2-3 steps. Probably should have just stayed put once he got fooled.

 

Its one thing to start flat foot with no lead, thats tough enough, but to literally go back to the base then start, you're dead in the water.

Ya Redman has not made me a happy camper this postseason. I know he lost it at the end of last year and by the looks of it he is doing it again. When it comes to defense Alex Gonzalez is one of the best but damn I have never seen such an Auto out like this before. He makes Rey Ordonez look like a Stud.

 

Hey at least we got 1 game in New York. As long as WC stays away from his predictions I think we have a decent shot at beating the Yanks in game 3.

Well he pitched pretty well against the Yanks in Game 1 and it worked for us in the NLCS, so its just a thought. :shifty

There's a day off between Games 5 & 6 since they go back to NY isn't there?

 

For the 3 games in FL, go with Beckett, Pavano, Penny.

 

Game 6 I go with Beckett, & then either Willis or Pavs on 3 days rest for Game 7 if needed.

The Yanks can beat up on Pavano. Willis gives you a better chance, until the batters get a chance to see him one more time...

 

I'm very interested in seeing what Beckett brings to the table tomorrow.

All we did was give NY a nice look at starter Pavs & relievers Fox & Loop -

I can't figure out why they put Pavano in either....

 

And Yanksfan, what makes you think they can beat up on Pavano? One thing I think will help him is he doesn't walk batters. That's something the Yankees hitters are terrific at (except for Soriano), being selective & drawing walks. He also keeps the ball down which (hopefully) will keep the baseball in the park.

Actually, that's a fallacy. The Yanks USED to win by being selective at the plate [Tino, Paulie, Scotty, even Knobby]. Now, we only have Nick Johnson and Derek Jeter.

 

Soriano, Bernie, Giambi, and Posada [all but bernie fanned over 110 times!] are all free swingers. This is EXACTLY why I think Pavano can get himself into trouble. When you have a guy who is generally around the strike zone pitching to guys who swing at just about anything near the plate, you're going to see a lot of hits.

 

Mussina is a very good example of this formula. He walks VERY few batters which means he's always around the plate which means zero no-hitters in his career. Pettite, meanwhile, was all over the place last night and fanned a bunch of eager batters. Penny is another good example. I could have stood up there with my eyes closed and taken a walk, but Yankee hitters were so eager - they were swinging at first pitch everything. That was, ultimately, their demise. FYI - that's the same reason they couldn't hit Wakefield....

 

Now you know the secret...

even though i was very confident that the Marlins could have won the second game-there was no way that we could have gone up 2-0 and pretty much won the series-when the yanks lose-they dont lose badly-they always keep it close-but after the first 2 games things are looking very good for the marlins going back top the pro where they have been great and there will be more marlin fans than yankee fans!-in ny there weren't alot of marlin fans at all!-and i dont want the series to go back to ny-so lets win three straight here and crack the bottles!

I think Redman is just getting a little tired, and also, he is not a hard pitcher to figure out when he is not on. In the playoffs, the good ones get better, the hitting gets tougher. When you have control issues and the umpire's strike zone is somewhat inconsistent, you cant help but get into trouble. It was the Yankees' night. They did win over 100 games this year and have a $180MM payroll. They are at least going to buy one game.

 

But seriously, this is all about pitching. Whichever team's starter can go the longest is going to have an advantage.

 

I dont see Willis starting because we have 0 lefty pitching in the pen. Oh, right, Tejera. Well, like I said, 0 guys in the pen that are lefty. Man, has he been disappointing this year.

 

Beckett is hot, and I wonder how he will fare. JRS is not a home run hitters paradise, and RF is still short, but not quite as short as Yankee stadium - I think. Pavano is a control pitcher who can throw around the plate. But I think that favors him because of the dimensions at JRS and our defense is far superior to the Yankees' D.

I'd like to see Willis get our 4th win in Game 5 in Miami. It's possible if Beckett and Penny pitch deep into their starts even if he pitches an inning at most in Beckett's start. Though it would make more sense to save him if we go back to New York and face both left-handed Giambi and Johnson each sweep through the starting nine.
