The board is full of people!

Im still waiting for the other foot to fall. Im excited as hell right now, but where did this extra 10 million come from in a set budget? Is someone about to be traded?

Just saw the announcement on the local news. They cant believe it! I love this, if this is the whole deal and no one has to leave because of this, I dont think anything can show more than this how much they want to win now.

This is just baffling. I'm happy to see the money spent, but where does this money come from? An injury risk.... herniated disk & bad knees are not good for a catcher. What they should have done is pay him according to how many games he can play, or something like it.

His bat could be HUGE though. For once I'm happy they only signed someone to a 1-year deal. Pudge has a great bat, & should definately provide some run support from the catcher spot, which was a big question mark. Redmond can hit, but he is not an RBI guy. Castro may still develop, but that remains to be seen.

So will we go into the season with 3 catchers again or is there another move coming?

Where does this 10 million come from??????????????????????? Awfully strange way to spend that much....

Did Loria just sell a Picasso or something?

"When an opportunity of this magnitude presented itself, I felt this was the perfect time to provide a major boost to the Florida Marlins," Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria said in a statement. "Adding a future Hall of Famer to our current team completes what we believe is a very successful offseason. I'm excited for our community and our team as we are just weeks away from the start of Spring Training and a very special 10th anniversary season."

Sorry about all the posts in a row, I just cant remember anything this good for the Marlins since 97.

The Marlins have signed former All-Star and Gold Glove catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez to a one-year contract, general manager Admin Beinfest announced on Wednesday.

Edit: Oops... btw.. SWEET! :lol

mlb.com gave the Fish the top story on their page, on espn.com it is a little blurb..Damn ESPN, they have no respect for Florida, if some other team signed him, it would have been their top story, instead they are featuring the Cardinals year in review

Give them time.

They still have to take off the little Ranger's cap and put on a fish one :D !

This is a glorious day to be a Marlins fan. It's so much sweeter because of what we have put up with...

Wow I'm SHOCK and at least Front Office is showing that they want to compete.Who would have thought Loria would had thrown 10 mil offer for Pudge......

any one listening to WQAM?

Can't believe some people are still negative about te Marlins...

WoW! what a a big signing this gives the fish the power they needed. hope pudge does good but the bad thing is he signed for the money, because he made the fish do the agreement of not offering abritation but he he also put in a no trade clause so maybe he may consider coming back depending on how the season goes.

BTW: this is a huge signing in the PR department.

Pudge has hit over .300 in 8 straight seasons. Im not sure if his injuries are still affecting him (he has missed 170 games over the last 3 seaons), but if healthy, he has averaged about 20 homers, 70 RBI a season. Right now, my guess is hed be either number 5 or 6 in the order, with Lee in the other slot.

i am.....

i may have to call in and set these morons straight

No is the biggest name since Cliff Floyd.

i dont understand what you are saying Sindy

The line-up should look like this:

  • Castillo

  • Pierre

  • Encarnacion

  • Lowell

  • Lee

  • Rodriguez

  • Hollandswoth

  • Gonzalez

  • Pitcher

I like the part of the quote by Loria that says this "completes what we believe is a very successful offseason." That sounds like they won't be making other trades to fund this one.

I'd have rather spent the money on a Brian Giles but I'm not going to argue with this one. This is a risky move but it should appeal to the casual baseball fan, which we needed to do from a PR point of view. If Pudge comes back to his old level, it would really solidify the line up and take a lot of pressure off Lowell and Lee.
