December 12, 200718 yr I know not everyone is such a prospect homer, thus making your perspective of the big trade a little distasteful. So, for the sake of optimism, and also because I have 20 minutes to waste before work, here is your 2010 lineup/rotation 2010 Lineup: (tons of promise... I mean, tons) 1. Chris Coghlan 2B (2nd year) 2. Jeremy Hermida RF (5th year) 3. Hanley Ramirez SS (5th year) 4. Mike Stanton / Mike Jacobs 1B (Rook / 6th year) 5. Cameron Maybin CF (3rd year) 6. Josh Willingham LF (6th year) 7. Matt Dominguez 3B (Rook) 8. Catcher of the day... maybe Jameson makes it up by 2010, but hopefully a trade will concur. 9. P 2010 Rotation: (absolutely filthy) 1. Andrew Miller (3rd year) 2. Chris Volstad (2nd year) 3. Josh Johnson (5th year) 4. Rick Vanden Hurk (4th year) 5. Sean West / Scott Olsen / Brett Sinkbeil / Dallas Trahern / Ryan Tucker / Gaby Hernandez It's going to be an all out brawl for the 2010 spots in the rotation. I'm sure some of these guys will get lopped off for position players.

December 12, 200718 yr And hopefully this lineup will be the opening day lineup in our very own stadium...
December 12, 200718 yr Maybe Brad Davis will be catching the ball. I'm expecting his own power and defence ability. and, Brett Hayes will be backup catcher, I think...

I'm sure some of these guys will get lopped off for position players. This is why I like the Marlins philosophy of stockpiling young pitching, which they have been doing almost to a fault. First, obtaining pitching on the open market has become extremely expensive, and prohibitive for the Marlins. Second, there is more attrition (through injury) in developing pitching than position players. Third, the relative scarcity of good pitching in the league means that any surplus will fetch a high price on the trade market, allowing the Marlins to fill their position player deficits when needed, as you suggested.
December 12, 200718 yr Dominguez and Stanton won't be ready in 2 years. Hammer and Jacobs would be in their 5th year. The team will be built around Hanley/Maybin/Hermida/Coghlan, maybe Hammer or Jacobs Miller/Volstad/Gaby/Trahern/Sinkbeil/Thompson/Cruz/Tucker, pick 2 of Johnson/Anibal/Nolasco/Vanden Hurk, and whatever current RP don't get saves and stay consistent (RP are cheap in arbitration unless they get the mythical save stat). The rest of the team will be acquired through moving Uggla, Olsen, Gregg, Mitre, Amezaga, Cody, maybe Hammer/Jacobs depending on what happens (i.e., as noted the perfect situation would be G. Sanchez turning into a MLB quality 1B. Doubtful, but it would seriously help things), and some of the additional arms. The Marlins should easily be able to figure out how to acquire a C and 2-3 corner players (1B, 3B, LF) from moving this group. Payroll for what I propose here is approx $22-25 mil (depending on keeping Hammer/Jacobs), without the remaining positional starters and a bench. Could easily, through acquisitions and free agency, fill out everything in the $30 range. Things are looking good at building a longterm contender of players who will peak at the same time (everyone above), with natural replacements in the wings (Dominguez, Stanton, West, Correa). It's just going to take a year or two for it to come together at the MLB level. The trick is, getting that stadium so Hanley and Hermida can get resigned and the team can afford most of the 5th year arbitration cases to keep the contending window open for a number of years.

By the end of 2010, you don't think they will receive some partial play? From what I understand, they are both going to be moved quickly due to Dominguez ready glove, and Stanton's advanced power... 2 things most players usually need considerable development time in. We'll see, I suppose.

We'll see, I suppose. No. I do not expect the Marlins to have drafted two super prospects who will crack the major leagues at 20 years old. It will take them the whole year to get through GCL/Jamestown/Greensboro, it not longer, then they will each need a full year in Jupiter and Carolina because they simply need the at bats at the professional level. These are huge projects. Neither is as polished as Hermida and he took 3 1/2 years in the minors. Hopefully their progression is steady and solid and they can become contributors the second half of 2011 and rookie starters in 2012. They'll be 22 years old then. That's still really young. It's hard to pencil either into the long term plans until they hit at the Jupiter level as well.
