Whats with all this Che Guevara stuff?

Featured Replies

Is it just me or has Che Guevara become some sort of pop icon for teenagers and the uninformed who somehow thinks it's cool to wear a tshirt with this brutal killer on the cover?

You don't see Wal-Mart or other retail stores selling shirts with Adolf Hitler, do you? But yet, here you go, Urban Outfitters And the worst part of that is, they put a bandanna on his face to make him "more gangster" so that he'll appeal to more morons out there.

I sent them an email, and I encourage others to do so as well.

um, that's not new.

I'm aware it's not new, chief.

But thanks for adding to the discussion, :thumbup

People who actually wear the shirts are misinformed idiots. It's basically the same as owning an "I'm With Stupid" shirt with the arrow pointed upwards.

I've never liked when people wear shirts with him on it. I just try to ignore it and not let it get to me. I just see it as they are misinformed.

I myself think this belongs in the Bull Pen.

Che Guevara was a professional Communist terrorist who failed in Guatemala before succeeding with Castro in Cuba, then failing on a Castro-sponsored mission to Congo, leading to his exile, his capture in Bolivia and ultimate execution.

But thanks for adding to the discussion, :thumbup Ah, I took your post to mean you thought this was something teenagers were just doing recently.

But yeah, I'm sure some think it's a "revolutionary" figure/symbol and wear them to see who they can agitate.

I hate seeing those shirts. I wonder if the people actually know who he was, and if so, if they care?

I agree with what has been stated before, he was a terrorist and a murderer who was probably even worse than Castro.

If you aren't aware yet, two films about el Che are going to be released later this year. Both films will star Benicio del Toro as Che Guevara. Their titles are, "The Argentine" and "Guerilla."

I don't know yet if this will have a positive or negative effect on the growing affection for this terrorist. I'm thinking it will be neither, but Che fanboys will perhaps turn these movies into some kind of anthem. Although I strongly doubt that will be Steven Soderbergh's intention.

I like to think that people wear that shirt just because they think its cool and really have no idea who he is. It gives me comfort to know that besides shirts with his face on it, he'll eventually be forgotten when communism falls in Cuba. The fact that not every one knows he acted as judge jury and executioner for an estimated 550 people is immaterial. One day not to long from now... :killthemall

Many people know who he was or at least know what he represents, and they wear it anyways simply because they want attention. Like when Axl Rose wore a t-shirt with Charles Manson's face, or when Sinead O'Connor tore up the Pope's photo. "I'm pissing people off, but whatever... at least, they're noticing ME!"

My stupid ex-girlfriend loves him. She was obsessed with a book about him, and a movie about him. Until I told her who he really was. What she had heard was that he was a hero of some sort. She's an effin idiot!

i fully know what che was and what he did... however, that particular image doesn't bother me... but thats just me.
