Wins in Spring = Wins in Season?

i just dont understand how people can think we could possibly be worse than we were last year...am i an optimist? sure...but we had atrocious luck with injuries and lead the league in walks given up and errors by far...now if we lead the league in those categories again...sure...you may have a point...but are we really that likely to do so again? i highly doubt it

The Marlins will not win more than 77 games this year.

If they do, it will be one of the biggest miracles in baseball history.

I predict they win 71 games.

So, out of the 162 games that are played, winning 78 would be one of the "biggest miracles in baseball history." Yet your prediction is only 7 games short of that mark.

Im predicting 71 and I'm a Marlins fan. I would call a 71 win prediction borderline homerish.

I think your underestimating what a big difference a 7 game swing is.

Las Vegas has the total @ 68.5. Winning 78 games would mean the professional oddsmakers in Vegas whiffed by 10 games. That's gigantic.

What did they predict in 03'? Seriously, just out of curiosity..

I agree with you. Even without Cabs, we are still going to score alot of runs, and our bullpen is real solid. A minor improvement by the defense, and a healthy pitching staff will make us better than last year. Andrew Miller, a more seasoned RVH, and a healthy Nolasco are much better than the Bk Kim's and Barone's of last season.. I think we can hang in there. Playoffs? Probably not, but better than last year is a realistic goal.

This team is clearly still a work in progress, I honestly have no idea how they'll perform this season although one has to think if the starting rotation can stay healthy, and even if the team can succeed at cutting one or two errors a week throughout the season, the odds (in the figurative sense) are they'll be an improved ballclub even without Cabrera.

The difference this season at least as far as pitching goes is the maturing of a number of arms in the minors that were absent last season. While I cling to the notion that winning now is pyschologically in the best interests of the team and the players you expect to be part of it in future years, Lou's wait 'til the arms mature theory has a lot of validity. I'm all in favor of more pitchers spending more time in the minors building arm strength and learning how to pitch than rushing them with potentially disastrous results.

There's a few tweaks I'd like to see happen earlier rather than later but I doubt they'll take place so looking at what's here now is a team that can gain a bit of praise if they can beat out the Nationals for fourth place in the division, and being wildly optimistic the Braves for third, as much because the Braves may be much worse than a lot of prognosticators rank them, as things would really have to click for the Fish.

Jorge Cantu is a worse thrid baseman than Miguel Cabrera is or has ever been. You will find out soon enough.

ive seen cantu play plenty enough...i think he will do fine...cabs like? absolutely not...but more than serviceable? sure i can see that

Damn right. Just wait to relish the spoiler spot in August and September when we are throwing out Miller, Anibal, Volstad, G. Hernandez, and Olsen, with a disgusting bullpen, and we've traded off Gregg, J. Miller, Gardner, Hendrickson, and maybe some of the non Hanley, Hermida, or Maybin hitters, for more organizational depth at C, 3B, and P. I hope every 2B in the NL West breaks their legs this year. They all have young 3B to trade.
