March 22, 200818 yr we playing well in Grapefruit League Is team ready for to open season or do you think it take few weeks to see how team will do doing season with new player ???????
March 22, 200818 yr Will having a 2-2 preseason record mean you'll go .500 during the season? Ask the Dolphins. Serioulsy, the good teams rest their starters all spring and throw em in the last week of spring. They sort out the bench and role players and players to call up. The sorry teams toss in their full lineup for excitment/experiance and hope that it will someday stick and be able to have a late spring start. I don't think the 2004 marlins were ahead in the standings atl during spring. Or the 2006 Mets. Chris
March 22, 200818 yr being semi sucessful in spring training generally means not much...but its better than being awful in spring training...which usually translates to a poor season for whatever reason
March 22, 200818 yr Author good thing we start with mets that forecast to be one best in nl we see how we do
March 23, 200818 yr We were #1 in the Grapefruit league in 2006. You decide if it meant anything. I believe we started that season 11-31. After making history to get back to a .500 record, we finished the season in 4th place.
March 23, 200818 yr A team can play horribly for an entire part of the regular season, and suddenly catch fire and make the big dance. So yeah, its way too early to say anything about most teams. But I don't think anyone logically expects the Marlins to do much this year.
March 23, 200818 yr That just mean that the Marlins have played harder then the rest of the league during spring training.

After making history to get back to a .500 record, we finished the season in 4th place. On the other hand... We set the wins record in ST in '97. That said...I'm more along with the thinking of JimmyJack. A good record dosen't neccesarily translate into the regular season, while a bad one most definetly can.
March 23, 200818 yr u cant rely on the performance in the ST , its always good to see that ure players are in good shape and commited but the regular season is a different story , we will have to wait until we are a few weeks in the regular season
March 23, 200818 yr Spring records are meaningless, but winning is always better than losing. The Heat were 0-7 in the preseason and we've seen how that turned out.

Right now they might win 20 Games.
March 24, 200818 yr The Marlins will not win more than 77 games this year. If they do, it will be one of the biggest miracles in baseball history. I predict they win 71 games.
March 24, 200818 yr ST does not mean anything to many teams Usually the most successful team hover around .500 in their exhibition games

I predict they win 71 games. because we haven't done stuff like that before? roughly 75 wins is about my prediction, barring injuries or breakout seasons...
March 24, 200818 yr Definitly, We are not Best Squad ahead starting of 2008 season. We will work the best squad facing 2009 or 2010 season. My Prediction in 2008 : 75wins
March 24, 200818 yr I've found that it's irrelevant. I would not try to use a Spring Training record as a reliable indicator for how the team will perform in the regular season, ever.
March 24, 200818 yr The record doesn't really mean anything but the act of winning is important. I'm reminded of something Mike Lowell said in retrospect after the 2003 World Series about that summer and fall. "We started coming to the park every day expecting to win", he said and while spring training isn't a September pennant race the more you win, the more you believe you can win. In that respect it's no different in life.

There are the occasional David defeating Goliath stories, but those usually occur in the bible and other fictional books. In reality, David gets stomped by Goliath and is made an example of. The Marlins won't lay down and die this season, but they will get their asses handed to them a lot more often than not. This isn't a Disney movie. Certainly we can't all be the expert on losing you are.

I'm sure there is someplace it can be looked up on line. Or if I get really ambitious (don't count on that LOL) I can hit the attic and dust off the '98 media guide.

March 24, 200818 yr Oakland has a better winning percentage then us, still confident in this comparison?
March 24, 200818 yr Oakland has a better winning percentage then us, still confident in this comparison? oakland doesnt play in the grapefruit league!

So, out of the 162 games that are played, winning 78 would be one of the "biggest miracles in baseball history." Yet your prediction is only 7 games short of that mark.
