The less than obvious part, but still obvious, was that they were going for the Cardinals, referring to both the baseball team and the senior officials in the Catholic Church.

I think Mariners is one too since Jesus was a fisherman. Devil Rays was one before they took the devil out. I'd imagine Giants is named after the people that the Israelites were really afraid of when they were returning to the promised land. We can't forget the Royals since Jesus is the king of kings.
