Two guys almost hit for the cycle today.

David Wright, a single, 2 doubles, and a triple, needed a homer in his final AB but ended up walking.

Conor Jackson: a single, homer, and 2 triples. He was SO CLOSE , too. On his 4th hit of the game, he hit a ball to the wall and could have stopped at 2nd base with a double which would have given him the cycle, but being the BALLER that he is, he chugs on into 3rd for his 2nd triple of the game. Hats off to the big guy!

How about Chipper Jones? 36 years old and he's absolutely raking. Two straight 2-homer games. Dude's hitting .455/.486/.773. Tied for the Major League lead in homers (6) and leads the NL in RBI (18)

Right now Chipper is saying "David who?"

If you mean David Wright, then Chipper's been able to say that for years. Chipper is better than Wright, and Chipper's been better than Wright. If Chipper was in NY, every mention of him would start with "likely first ballot hall of fame 3B"

Since we're talking about third basemen, don't know if anyone has noticed, but Miggy is back for the Tigers. He was slumping to start the season but he's hit in 7 straight (12 for his last 28) and he's got his average up to .281 on the season. He's also tied for the team lead in RBI with 12.

I still think he's going to have a monster season in Detroit now that he's getting adjusted to AL pitching. Once those Tigers bats come alive and Granderson gets healthy, the're going to make a push for the playoffs.

Talking about third basemen, does anyone else think Zimmerman is overrated? He plays good D but doesn't hit very much for his position. Maybe later on he will, but right now he doesn't.

Too early to tell, really. He had a good rookie year, then last year he didn't do so well. We'll have to see what he does this year before we can start calling him overrated.

So yeah, they were pretty much just bashing the Marlins on the Sunday Night Baseball.

First they were talking about Hanley Ramirez and how he is a fabulous player.

Then Jon Miller was like "Well, they won today in front of a little over 11,000 people. They are unloved in their own city"

Its true is it not?

I love Hanley... and the Marlins... so I guess, out of context, it's BS

However, because we don't fill stadiums up, we're an "unloved" team.

Hank Steinbrenner, please shut your mouth and let the baseball people take care of the baseball decisions.

On Joba Chamberlain being in the bullpen or the rotation:

"I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now," Steinbrenner told The New York Times. "There is no question about it, you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don't do that. You have to be an idiot to do that."

Cashman's response:

"Joba's staying in the bullpen right now," Cashman told Newsday on Monday. "That's where we're at. [Putting him in the rotation is] not something that's going to happen here early on, and [Hank] knows that. We've talked about it. I don't know what set him off."

Ouch.

Let's see how Girardi deals with this one.

well Hammer would have been a .950ish OPS guy last year if he didn't do copmletely ass against LHP. He had a .897 OPS agaisnt RHP last year...that right there told me he should be big this year as long as he can go back to hammering LHP. Unfortunately he's still struggling against them. .758 OPS but that's powered by 2 HRs...only a .217 baa, .280 OBP. Ofocarse it's also only 23 ABs...turn it around baby.

ofcoarse it's also unlikely he continues to hit .354 against RHP. But still, he should be in the .900+ OPS range aginst them.

Yeah Chipper has been playing like an expensive aged wine lately. Not a big fan of the guy but the numbers speak for themselves.

I think he gets the nod 1st ballot as well.

I've been thinking about this and didn't want my dislike for the person to taint my view of the player. That said, IDK Chipper will be a 1st Ballot. There have been many more deserving players that didn't get in until 2nd or 3rd ballot just b/c of the way some guys vote. Voters will also have to consider his numbers in the context of a murky era of baseball rank with steroids allegations. It will be very interesting to see how his candidacy is received.

Chipper is one of the best switch hitters in the history of the game, and on of the best hitting 3B in the history of the game.

Ryan Sandberg?

That's just off the top of my head, there must be more.
