Hanley - $6 (Tulo $3.5, or Wright $5, Cabrera $7.4)

Hermida - $3.5 (Hawpe $3.9, Swisher $3.5)

Willingham - $3.5 (same)

Uggla - $3.5 (A. Hill $2.6, Utley $4.5)

Gregg - $3.5 (Corpas $3.5)

Jacobs - $3.5 (Overbay $2.5, Morneau $4.5)

Cantu $3 (B. Hall $4.8, Tracy $3.75)

Olsen $2 (Cain $2.65, Carmona $2.75)

Mitre $2 (can't think of comps, making $1.2 now)

Amezaga - $2 (Endy $1.8)

Nolasco* - $1.75 (Olsen comps)

Cody - $1.5 (Endy $1.75, Kubel $1.3)

J. Miller - $1.5 (Crain, $1.7, Rincon $2)

Treanor - $1.25 (can't think of comps, 705k now)

McPherson - $1.25 (can't think of comps, 425k now)

Tank* - 900k (Guerrier 950k, Crain $1.05)

Johnson - 850k (Patterson 850k)

Kensing - 750k (Guerrier 950k, Crain $1.05)

Waecther - 750k (same)

* Likely Super 2

We can roughly afford 3 from each grouping for next season ($30 mil payroll estimation).

I have italicized my preferences. Those 9 roughly cost $21 million, add A. Miller (guessing $2, he has a contract), and club controlled Anibal and Volstad to round out the rotation. Add in club controlled Lindstrom, Owens, Pinto, and Cruz/H.Garcia/whoever for the bullpen. Add in club controlled Rabelo at C, Andino backup MI, Maybin CF, probably one of Carroll/De Aza/Jai as a backup OF, and either a young catcher or Baker, and those CC players add in another $4.5. So that is 21 players at $27.5, and the team needs another middle infielder, a 1B, a 3B, and a Gonzo type.

Ideally, you figure the organization wants G. Sanchez and Coghlan to take over the right side, they will have to trade for a young/cheap 3B as we don't have any, and then give their obligatory $1-2 million contract to Helms/Boone/Gonzo, and that brings it right around the $30 million threshold. They should be able to patch the longterm holes with trading off the 'excess' at this years trade deadline and offseason and set the team up amazing longterm.

Getting close to $40. It's all a matter of how much do you think they will spend. I'm lowballing it until they say otherwise.

That is a safe bet, because it can only leave you pleasantly suprised. Like I said, I wouldn't be suprised, especially if this team appears to be on the verge.

Hanley's not going to arbitration, he's going to sign a 78 year deal.

We'll take him into his early 100's then :thumbup

At age 100, he probably still puts up 5+ homers and 20+ RBI to go with a couple stolen bases and a respectable .220 batting average.

We won't be around to see him break the all time HR record by then. :(

At least I'll still be 50 when he breat the all-time hits though. :)

It could also depend on if some are signed to long term deals. Maybe some crafty paying schedule will allow us to keep an extra guy or two. I'm hopeful payroll will be around 35-40 mil next year. Looking at the 3 year trend our payroll was 14,30,21. Hopefully the rebound will occur again. I think the securing of future revenue helps, plus Delgado goes off the books next year, freeing up another 4 mil.

Mutts must really be hating the Delgado trade right about now.
