Will this help in player negotiations?

Featured Replies

Every player is different and they all may have different goals.

But one thing is certain. Every player wants to win a World Series title. (true, they want to win it EVERY year, but most NEVER win one)

Well now these guys have experienced it. They'll have World Series champion rings of their very own. They'll have all the memories and glory of being the best.

So.... what I'm thinking is, this MIGHT help in keeping certain players.

Let's say for example another team outbids the Marlins by 1 or 2 million for one of their players... Maybe now that player takes a little hometown discount to stay with the World Champions and to stay home in South Florida. I mean why would Pudge leave now? He's already got tons of money, he's finally won a Championship, he loves it at home in south florida with his family. Same with a Mike Lowell for example.

I'm not counting on this happening, athletes head for the money more often than not, but I think it could be a factor now when negotiations start. Players don't have to think "well sure it's nice getting to play in sunny florida & all that, but let's face it, Florida is a baseball graveyard."

i agree completely. pudge isn't going anywhere, of that i'm sure. not only does loria not want to jeopardize attendance next year, but the peer pressure on pudge, now that he has won it all, will be too great. who on earth would want to leave a world series-winning team?

and you can't count out the whole teammate bond thing. through winning a championship, these guys bonded with each other more than they have with any other team. what player would want to leave the ballclub he's had the most fun on in his life? there are reasons other than $$ that these guys play the game.

i'm very optimistic about next year.

Pudge made it seem like he wasnt going to comeback when they asked him that question on NBC.

But i remeber when he first came he said if we contend he will stay here, so he better keep his word,

Pudge will be a Mariner, IMO.

If Pudge leaves, it will be one of the most un-classiest decisions in sports' history!

why?

and by who?
