Schnellders
so over the past turn in the rotation, things have been significantly better miller vs SD 6 innings, 2 runs, 4 k's olsen vs MIL 8.2 innings, 0 runs, 8 k's badenhop vs MIL 5.2 innings, 2 runs, 7 k's hendrickson 4.1 innings, 1 run 1 k nolasco vs WAS 6 innings, 1 run, 6 k's to combine for 30.2 innings, 6 runs (ERA approx 1.76) and 26 k's olsen fantastic, miller/nolasco/badenhop good stepping stones, hendrickson good damage limitation
MarlinsCanesHeat
They all have the talent to be consistently great starting pitchers. With a little more experience (for badenhop and miller) and knowing what it takes to win a game against a good team, a bad team, or a great team, they should be fine and able to provide us with a competent pitching staff. Obviously with us sitting at 21-14 and first place in our division, that little bit of experience and consistently can do wonders for a team like us who can hit with ferocity. All we need is consistently good starts, and if we do there's no doubt in my mind that we can make the playoffs this year.
MarlinsCanesHeat
not to mention that we have some great starting pitching that are injured (mitre...sanchez) and waiting to come back, if they come back strong, we'll be more dangerous than we are now. Personally I think the tide is turning. But we gotta continue turning it with consistency
Schnellders
so providing everyone is healthy would this be our rotation at the end of the year (in no particular order) olsen miller sanchez johnson mitre however that leaves the question of where does the hopper, nolasco and hendrickson go based on his current form i would rather have hendrickson in the rotation that mitre when sergio returns where does volstad fit in? does he take the 5th spot rather than hendrickson or mitre? many decisions but this is a great situation to be in
MarlinsCanesHeat
sure is a great situation to be in, we'll just have to wait and see how fredi approaches it :mis2
EricWiener
I've been seeing it for the past 3 turns through, especially with Miller. Even when Houston slapped him around, I saw the improvement.

I don't see JJ coming back this season, I would love it , I just don't expect it, at best he might be reliever if does have a late season comeback effort. I really like Nolasco and it would be unfair to just discard him from the 5th starter role
EricWiener
Hendrickson has never had the curveball he has now. Unlike hitters, pitchers often put it all together and see massive improvement, I expect him in the rotation the whole season. Post All-star I would expect to see: Olsen Sanchez Henrickson Miller Badenhop I have no faith in Mitre as anything other than an injury back up. Nolasco belongs in the bullpen, he would be far more effective there, people get to him on their 2nd looks. Johnson will not be ready this season. Volstad should not be rushed, if - and only if - Miller stops progrssing should be see Volstad at all this year.

Except that obviously if Badenhop/Miller struggles, Volstad or Tucker should be seen. But I don't expect both of them to go under. Especially the way Miller is pitching. Rabbethan
I'm looking at: Olsen Mitre Hendrickson Sanchez Miller It's widely known that I am a fan of Captain Mitre AKA The Mi-Train AKA Power Serg AKA Sergio Mitre. I happen to have tons of faith in his stuff and think he could be a great addition to the rotation.

mk613
don't really understand the love for mitre. I mean he did ok for us last year but overall his entire career he's been pretty bad Olsen Hendrickson Miller Sanchez Badenhop I would love to see Volstad in there though. And Hendrickson has been Gregg Maddux his whole career? And as far as his entire career, do you realize that Mitre is only 27? I, as to why I think he deserves to be in this rotation, like to show these numbers: W L G GS IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA WHIP +--+--+---+--+----+---+---+---+---+---+--+------+------+ 3 4 15 15 88.1 92 37 28 19 55 5 2.85 1.259 That was from before the All-Star break last year. Before last year, his career high IP was 60.1. I think that was a big reason for his decline throughout the season.
Schnellders
fantastic outing for miller last night - thats 3 of his last 4 starts been of good quality with the talks of the marlins being buyers at the trade deadline, does anyone know what sort of calibre (give examples of who) would be potential targets for us? even though i dont see the need just now, i presume the addition of a veteran starting pitcher would be on the list
