JonDigital
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp The above article boasts about the talent in the NL and AL at the SS position. Here is a passage... But those hiccups by some of the AL's finest are nothing compared to the siege on shortstop in the NL, which has been a definite danger zone. The league's shortstops have mounted the aforementioned strong showing despite the extended injury absences of three giants -- Philadelphia's reigning MVP Jimmy Rollins and San Francisco's Omar Vizquel, both of whom finally checked back in last weekend, and Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki, not expected to recover from a torn tendon in his left quad until after the All-Star Game. Rollins' emphatic comeback -- 3-for-5 with three ribbies in his first game in five weeks suggested he isn't going to miss a beat -- clearly launched him back into contention for his fourth All-Star berth and second start. Another magnetic choice in Rollins' own division is the Marlins' Hanley Ramirez, the five-tool weapon who has been front and center of the Marlins' unexpected thrust to the top of the NL East. Ramirez's eight homers lead the league's shortstops, and his .336 average is tops in the Florida lineup. I think its MLB's job to do a better job endorsing a guy like Hanley, playing for the best team in baseball right now. Rollins has missed most of the first half of the season yet he has been launched back into All-Star contention. I know I'm probably just being a real anal Marlin/Hanley fan but Hanley should have topped the conversation in that article about NL SS candidates and not Rollins. Something really rubbed me wrong about that article. What do you guys think?
Puma
It was kind of like "Oh yeah, and theres that guy Hanley Ramirez down in Florida." He is the best shortstop in baseball, and he gets mentioned last in an article about shortstops. I really don't care though. If you think about it, a year ago hardly anyone knew about Hanley. Now everyone who considers themselves a baseball fan knows about Hanley and how good he is. I guess once he starts winning MVP awards the press will start giving him more respect, respect that he rightfully deserves.
JonDigital
No doubt Puma. The whole article really stunk of Hanley being a throw in as a candidate. I've been looking through everything in teal colored glasses lately but the media bias really needs to stop. Hell if the Ray's can get a verbal stroking these days why not the Fish? RatherDashing
I'm a Phillies fan, and I'm not voting for JRoll for the ASG. If a guy misses that much time, he should not get the vote over a guy like Hanley whose been more than solid all season so far. Now if he starts putting up big numbers as we get closer to July, then I will assume he'll get in on his own merit, but Hanley needs the votes because there are tons of misinformed fans who will vote for JRoll, and Reyes, and whoever based on rep, and Hanley so far has proven he deserves to be starter. And I'd love to see Hanley get voted in and another Fish, like Dan or Scotty go in from the coaches' choice, not have Hanley get in because each team needs a representative. The only thing I worry with Hanley being endorsed so much is that he will get all the credit for the Fishes' success. Which is unfair, but thems the breaks. Trey05Marlins
Hanley reminds me of Carlos Beltran. He was great in Kansas City but no one knew about him. Then once he is traded to Houston and has a great post season, everyone likes him. Then once he goes to New York, everyone is all on his nuts. Hopefully this doesn't happen with Hanley. Eddie Altamonte
Rollins over Ramirez that has been the mantra since last season by baseball writers. Ramirez was better than Roliins last years and will be better this year as well. If only Ramirez had hit 1 more homer the story would have been totally different. Since Ramirez hit 29 homers and not 30 Rollins is considered the better bat. How absurd is that?
LordMagnus
Well of course, they write Jimmy Rollins is better even if they don't really believe it. They are trying to cater to the markets with the biggest fan bases in order to retain readership in an ultra competitive sports information age. You are my favorite Phillies fan ever Haha, thank you. But seriously, JRoll is my favorite player and has been for a long time and as a fan of his, I would want to see him in there because he deserved to be in there, not because of a popularity vote. I mean, if he ain't an All-Star, he should be usin' that break to practice on bein' one, not tooling around the All-Star game like he belongs there, and that goes for every player in the MLB who gets there based on popularity *coughDavidWrightcough* And this is why I don't post on Phillies phorums. I'd be shot for saying something that goes against the Phillies but you all are cool with rival fans hanging as long as we're, you know, sane. Wild Card
Hanley should get the starting nod, and while we're at it Uggla's the best second basemen in the NL at the moment as well. He's brought his avg. up to .290 and he's at a sexy 12 HR and 28 RBI.

He had 4 hits the entire 7 game roadtrip, causing his average to drop 30 points (haha, drop to .327, don't we all wish we had that problem?)! Unngggh Utz, get back on the Vengabus! I find it amusing in a coincidental sort of way, though. Uggla stole Chase's mojo! :mis2
