October 27, 200322 yr Less than 18 hours after the Marlins won the World Series, Ugueth Urbina and Rick Helling filed for Free Agency Link
October 27, 200322 yr get the rings and leave. oh well, Urbina was expected to leave and Helling wants some more money from the Marlins.
October 27, 200322 yr Wait a second. It says that players have up until November 9th to file. And it says they get until November 10th to talk with their current team only. So, because they filed so fast, doesn't it mean that they want more time to talk with soley Marlins about re-signing?

October 27, 200322 yr no, it means they have intentions to go to the highest bidder or in helling's case, try and up the bid from their current team. Ok, just wanted to clearify.
October 27, 200322 yr Does this mean that Uggy didn't like his stay? He doesn't want to be with the Marlins? Can anyone explain?
October 27, 200322 yr Uggy did his job and if wants to go onto greener pastures then that is his problem! Thanks for the help, Uggy!
October 27, 200322 yr Uggy did his job and if wants to go onto greener pastures then that is his problem! Thanks for the help, Uggy! At least you have a good attitude. How about screw Rick Helling. Helling has good stuff. His curveball is sick.
October 27, 200322 yr Helling has good stuff. His curveball is sick. Even if that's true, you don't need Helling, he's a starter not good enough for this rotation, and you don't give a long reliever multi-millions of dollars.

He only made $1 Mill this season, and had a horrible year (outside of Florida).
October 27, 200322 yr Guys, Helling had to file for free agency. He was signed as a minor league free agent and therefore had to sign a major league contract in order to play for the Marlins in 2004 or any other team. It is technical stuff.

Why the ***k would he become a free agent then?
October 27, 200322 yr At least you have a good attitude. Why wouldn't I? If Uggy thinks that he is going to have a chance to win the Championship somewhere else then its time to let him go. He did exactly what we asked him to do and thats that. If he wants to chance to repeat next year, he'll do the smart thing and take less money. But nobody said that baseball players were smart!
October 27, 200322 yr I think that we are going to see a good number of big name free agents going to smaller market teams, with maybe not as much money going to them as they could have gotten if they went to big market teams and/or the big market teams were interested. Why? Call it the Pudge factor.
October 27, 200322 yr Helling wants to latch on somewhere while the positive memories of his late season contributions having meaning. He was mediocre at best in Baltimore, who if you remember had already cut him when The Fish picked him up. He's trying to get a contract for 2004 before every other FA makes themselves available. Can't blame the guy. He has marginal stuff left at the end of his career and if he wants to find work I wish him nothing but the best. And Uggie, he did his thing, he helped get us where we are, I say he's entitled to test the waters. And for the record, you wont hear me bad-mouthing anyone who contributed to our glorious season. No one. Every guy, from Ramon Castro and Andy Fox to Pudge and Beckett contributed and they are all due our undieing appreciation.

October 27, 200322 yr And for the record, you wont hear me bad-mouthing anyone who contributed to our glorious season. So we can still bad-mouth Nunez and Almanza? :lol
October 27, 200322 yr :fyou Uggy and Rick , and Pudge and the Marlins are talking about a 2 year deal worth $23mill
October 27, 200322 yr I don't know about you guys, but I would love to see Helling back. Hopefully it is "technical stuff" like Cape said and he might resign with us. Helling is a perfect fit for the Marlins right now. As far as Uggy goes, I don't think any of us should have expected him to be back, and I'm not so sure if I would have wanted him to be back. He's a lot of money for a guy that pitches 90 innings.
