How was everyone's trip to game in Tampa?

Featured Replies

how was fans of rays treat you all after their won fri,sat game? how their treat you after win? i heard on tv alot cowbell. was that giveway for this series? i talk to my wife going next year series

Fantastic time. Again. Our record is clean. NEVER a problem there, win or lose. People were all friendly and actually wanting to wanting to talk with us. Our section was next to the Marlins dugout, seven rows up from the field. Very friendly security people too. Actually, all the workers were friendly and courteous. One thing I did notice this time that I missed before was that the workers have titles on the backs of their shirts that are baseball "lingo" related to their actual jobs. Like the people sweeping, mopping, etc... had "Cleanup Hitter." Thought that was pretty cool.

Cowbells were not the give away on Sunday (thank the baseball gods for that). The kiddies got a t-shirt. I didn't actually see anyone carrying bells either. But they do have a couple guys with cowbell-like things that they bang with a drum stick. Maybe that is what you were hearing.

Saw alot of Marlins fans there. Some we know from the Marlins Fan Club. Some we recognized as regulars at Joe Robbie. And some were Marlins fans from that general area.

BTW Blame me for Ricky not getting that 3rd out in the 9th. I started taping the inning when he came out to pitch it. Guess I jinxed him.

A lot of Rays fans are classy people. I hate their team, but they have to put up with Yankee fans even more than we do, and they're pretty good about it.

Thanks to all you Marlin fans who represented us in Tampa.

Overall it was a good experience. I did take exception to the drinking college kids who kept yelling the Marlins suck, but I offered to buy them another beer if they promised they would drive home and give me a head start to my car. :whistle I get the fact their team hasn't been a winner and appreciate their growing support of the Rays. I would think they'll set some attendance records this year especially this month with the Cubs and Red Sox coming in.

I'm guessing USF students, not the brightest or classiest bunch of human beings.

as odd as it may sound some of us USF students picked USF over UF.

UF has plenty of unclassy tools as well. As does FSU.

We went Saturday. If you heard cowbells that was Rab and I shaking ours that we got down here.

An ok game. Home plate ump just killed for us.

Tampa fans are well behaved. Except for that one guy in the parking lot who screamed "Remember when the Marlins lost last night?!" and Rab yelled back "Remember when the Rays won the world series?!" :lol

Funny stuff. :D

That's funny coming from a Gator.

Pfft, only half of UF is unclassy idiots. Us nerds at UF are a large group oppressed in the UF census!

Us nerds at any university are largely oppressed. Unless you go to a nerd school (I'm looking at you, MIT!).

I live in downtown st pete, so I just had to hop on my bike to the games. I also just missed the Helms HR, little kid directly two rows behind me got it.

The homeless there scared the hell out of me.

Crossing paths with a homeless person is good luck.

You get used to it.

Great time. My wife got Hanley's autograph on Sat night after the concert. She had a sign that was a picture of the Domician Flag w/ Hanley's name on it, she went up to him after the concert and he looked at sign and smiled and signed it. I went down to talk to him but I completely froze. I'm a wuss

The one time I got within speaking distance of my hero, Jeff Conine, I didn't even move.

I felt like such a chump. I just ran up to him and then sat down while she starting talking to him. She said he was a really nice guy, I couldn't understand what she was saying to him because they were speaking Spanish. I'll never live this one down

We got off the highway in St Pete to hit a store before we got there Sunday and was surprised to see all the vote no for the waterfront stadium on the front lawns. I asked about that at the game and was told the vote no people have been stealing all the vote yes signs. Their fans seemed pretty worried they are going to lose their team to Orlando or a different state.

Were we getting the wrong impression or is there a very real possibilty of that? When is the vote and what are the chances of it passing? And why are they willing to leave a domed stadium for an open air facility? The pictures looked real nice, but they get worse thunder storms there than we do here.

I would imagine those that do so pick USF to be closer to home. Generally speaking, I doubt you find many people outside of the Tampa/St. Pete metroplex choosing USF over any of the other major FL schools. If they do, they're probably saying they did to cover for the fact they couldn't get into any of the other major FL schools.

I'm a proud UCF alumn and Marlins fan, so I wore a mixture of shirts/hats for the two teams to all 3 games. What I experienced the whole weekend continued my poor experiences w/ the USF fanbase (stemming from the FB game at the Citrus Bowl 2 yrs ago and Raymond James last year). Friendly, good-natured ribbing between rivals is fine, but what I've been called and the things that have been said to me do not paint a good picture for the USF fan base. While it's always the loudest members of the group that tend to set the perception of that group, I've yet to have a positive experience when it comes to USF fans. And they reached a new low Saturday; I was with my 3 YR OLD SON going to get a hotdog in the second inning. A bunch of Drunk (In the 2nd Inning!) kids get in our way and start yelling "UCF F'ing SUCKS!" "You're F'ing Losers" and then one in particular stands over my son and yells at him "You're going to be a loser, too!" What kind of common, base person does that to a 3 yr old, huh?

But getting back to the Rays, I'm happy for them and the people of Tampa/St. Pete that they're doing well. Every fanbase deserves to have a competitive product, and this team is a fun one to watch. I do want to point out, though, that anyone who points a finger at S. FL for being bandwagon fans needs to take a serious look at Tampa/St. Pete, as well. While I am not and never will be a Rays fan (stemming from the expansion days when Orlando was the lead candidate to receive an expansion team, only to have our neighbors on the West Coast get them), I've gone to my fair share of games through the years, so I know many of the hard-core supporters. Where have all of these people that filled up the Trop on Sat and Sun been the past 10 years?

My girlfriend is from Spring Hill Florida. She is telling me that a mojaority of the people don't want to waste more of their tax dollars on a team no one goes to see.

I am not sure that there is actually a vote. She told me that people were pissed that they were not able to vote on it.

Granted, my girlfriend is wrong an aweful lot, so this could be wrong.
