It's easy to think of Dallas McPherson as a journeyman.

After all, he's been on everyone's radar since that 40-homer campaign in the minors back in 2004 and has already played for the Anaheim and Los Angeles Angels in parts of three big league seasons.

He was hyped and didn't deliver, so we moved on. But the kid is only 27, which in fantasy terms might just put him on the cusp of Custness. You may remember that A's slugger Jack Cust ? a truer journeyman there never was ? was also 27 last year when Oakland threw him a lifeline that led to a 26-homer, 82-RBI season.

McPherson hasn't been given that chance yet. In fact, it might not come at all. He's with the Marlins organization now and they simply don't have a spot with him on the parent club.

Those unfortunate circumstances haven't prevented McPherson from turning the Pacific Coast League into his own personal teeing ground. Friday the powerful lefty hit his 28th homer of the season to build on his minor league lead. He entered the game needing a homer to tie the Pacific Coast League record for consecutive games with a home run with seven. He got it, then sat the nightcap of the doubleheader.

McPherson acknowledges that he's unsure what the future holds for him in Florida, but with the trade deadline a month away, opportunity could knock. The Marlins could buy and ship McPherson to fill a need or sell and create an opportunity at the big league level.

Either way, his is a name to watch when deals start going down. Offensively, there really hasn't been a hole in his game, as evidenced by his .309/.418/.695 figures entering the weekend. Despite a rash of injuries in recent seasons, he even has seven stolen bases (he once stole 30 in the minors).

I hope they don't trade him, Jacobs is the one that needs to go.

gave it time he come play here miami their not rush to bring him here remember pitcher he facing here wont be same their so he most likely wont have that many HR

Trade him in a package deal for pitching while he is doing well in the pCL

You sir, got it right on the nail! Brilliant! DO IT!

McPherson hits for power while not sacrificing other important statistics. Why trade him and not Jacobs? I know there's a lot of people here who seem to not like McPherson for some reason. Well, the guy deserves a chance. To trade him now would be a mistake.

McPherson deserves a chance. The logical thing to do is move Cantu to first, where he is much better defensively, and either bench or trade Jacobs.

Jacobs does have 18 HRs but it just seems to me that he is trying to hit every ball over the right field wall, regardless of the situation. When you take that into consideration, the 18 HRs are not as impressive.

If the Marlins can make room for McPherson by trading Jacobs for a catcher near the end of his contract, like Pudge or Bengie Molina, they should do it.

It's only June...there's plenty of time for him to get his chance here. These things have a way of working themselves out.

Everyday I get more impressed with this guy, he was a top prospect with the Angels, and obviuosly can still hit. I say bring him up, but we may have to wait until an injury occurs (Hopefully that dosen't happen), otherwise he might take Helms spot.

If we bring up Dallas Mcpherson, would he really be an upgrade defensivley? he has 11 errors in Triple A and his fielding % is .928

You should understand when he started the season he was rusty as hell having not played healthy in three years and not played at all pretty much for over a year. And remember he missed a big amount of spring training as well with sore oblique. Then they sent him to left field which didn't work out at all and he made a number of errors there. The number is nowhere near as bad as it looks standing by itself.

If you want to look at his defense (and yes, he is not a gold-glover and I'm not saying he is) look at the last six weeks or so since he has able to start playing everyday and I believe you'll find his work at third more than acceptable.

In his time with the majors (804 inn, about 2/3rd of a season. By no means a great sample size but not only 100 inn either), he was about an average 3rd baseman, showing about average range and fielding well within his zone. .789 RZR, 36 OOZ. As I've said before, you have to expect a drop off with the whole back surgery deal, not playing for a year and such, but I don't think it would be hurt too much.

And like 2003 said, he needs to play everyday. If that won't be here, then that should be in AAA.

Though I also would think the same of Andino and yet all he's doing is gaining experience digging for treasure

he was never known for his defensive skills
