If you're from South Florida and you're on the Rays bandwagon, you're just weird. People from Tampa absolutely hate Miami and have no respect for the place. Tampa and South Florida are only the same state by name. The Rays are in no way your home state team if you're from South Florida.

 

Was that directed to me, or just people in general? I think it's the latter, but just making sure :lol , cause I don't consider myself on the Rays bandwagon in any way, shape or form.

Rays win!!!! I still hate them, especially their announcers, didn't have the option of ESPN tonight. Wierd the home team has won every game of this series. Oh well GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm so happy for the rays right now. it reminds me of 1991 and the braves run that year. full disclosure, i've been watching the rays since 2004 when they were completely sorry and only now admit to watching them because they aren't a joke. i hope they make the playoffs, and i may want to go a game this season.

I'd argue that the first time they swept the Sox was better. They had that extra innings walkoff in game 1, the 8th inning comeback in game two and Shields out pitching Beckett in game 3.

Whoever it was that started the whole thing insinuating I'm a "bandwagon" Rays fan, get off your high horse. I don't come here to defend myself on crap like this. The fact of the matter is, I live 45 minutes from the action. My family left Miami when I was five, three years before the Marlins inaugural season, so I don't have the luxury everyone else takes for granted of living in South Florida and being close to the Marlins.

 

The beauty of baseball is being able to follow a team in both leagues if you like baseball that much. It's still baseball, but it's the AL. The only time I root against the Rays is when they play the Fish. That's how it's always been. I've followed the likes of Crawford and Kazmir for years. I always felt sorry for them and wished the organization would build a decent team around them. Well, slowly but surely they did, and it's nice to see.

 

Their success this year doesn't shock me, but the way they have plowed through the Cubs, Angels, Red Sox twice was downright sick. And the fact they swept those teams gives me a little comfort in the fact that Hurricane Ray swept through Dolphin Stadium last week.

 

Last year, they had key pieces to the team, but also some very wrong pieces. Shields started coming into his own and Sonnanstine burst onto the scene. Pena was a beast. Upton learned to play center field. The kid from Long Beach was getting close. But they had two dumb thugs who were cancers to the team. They were smart and got rid of the bad apples Elijah Dukes and Delmon Young for good players (including Garza). And the acqusition of the veterans Percival, Floyd and even Hinske was just tremendous. Everyone in the bay area was buzzing about the potential of this group in spring training.

 

Anyway, that's the last time I respond to a negative poster. That's why it took me years to join one of these things...people can be so antagonistic behind their computer screens. It's disappointing and sad.

That team is showing GREAT promise right now.

 

Anything to rally the community behind THEIR team. That includes St. Pete, Tampa, Sarasota and just about anywhere else in the state except South Florida. It would be nice to see Floridians rooting for their own teams on a consistant basis for a change.

That was the cool thing about the ESPN game. People were cheering for hte Rays at a sold out game and not the Sox. It must have been great for all the young players and the guys who have been there for a while now.
