July 23, 200818 yr I'm going with... Scott Olsen Reasoning: Scott Olsen has given us more chances to win than anyone else. While Nolasco has been pushed as our "ace", Scotty has been steadier. He has more starts of 7 innings or more (9 vs 7), has more quality starts (12 vs 11) and a higher percentage of quality starts (60% vs 58%). Scotty has only had 2 games with 5 or more earned runs, Nolasco has 4. Going into the 2nd half, all the talk has been about Nolasco, Johnson, Volstad, and even Anibal Sanchez. Everyone forgets about the steady, consistent Olsen. So, for giving us more chances to win than anyone else and still being considered inferior, I nominated Scott Olsen for the most under-appreciated player on the team. hes also been bad in many games. nolasco is the ace not because of when he pitches good, but because when he pitches bad, its not as bad as when olsen isnt on. so nolasco is better than olsen because he pitches better when he pitches bad (if that makes sense, probably not) So basically Olsen is worse b/c of that 1 game in Colorado? :confused I'm gonna have to agree with Rab. how bout last start mariners start rockies start may 23 start vs giants may 28 vs mets how bout those?
July 23, 200818 yr Most def Hermida and Scotty O Hermida is our 2 hitter in a good hitting lineup and not many have ever heard of him Scott Olsen as rab said many quality starts, solid 7 inning guy and he should have at least 9 wins by now if the team could score runs or hold leads when he started

What about? June 5th at Atlanta -- (5.2 IP, 7 ER) May 3rd vs. San Diego -- (4.2 IP, 6 ER) April 17th vs. Atlanta -- (4.2 IP, 6 ER) April 11th at Houston -- (5 IP, 5 ER) (Nolasco's bad starts?) And what was so terrible about Olsen's last start? (5 IP, 3 ER) -- I could look at a bunch of Nolasco's games where he did something similar, and post them, as well. Olsen has had 3 TERRIBLE starts The Colorado game, the Seattle game, and the San Fransisco game.

July 23, 200818 yr I think Amezaga is one of the guys who comes to mind. He can play anywhere, and he will give you solid defense, good speed, and some production with the bat (no, not HRs, but he's not supposed to). He's the new Mike Mordecai: lovable, good for the clubhouse, and with more speed and better defense.

I still think that the Marlins should move Hanley back in the lineup and put Amezaga in the leadoff spot.

Olsen has given up 5+ runs twice this season, Nolasco has given up 5+ runs 5 times (previously 4).
July 24, 200818 yr I don't see where any of the players you all have listed are either underappreciated or underrated by the team or the fans, which is what the thread is all about. The exceptions being Helms and Gonzo, which I don't see being on the team next year in a player's role. My vote would go to one of two players. Treanor. An excellent back up catcher that can give us alot of starts in case of injury. He isn't a full time starter but is adequetly filling that role because of a lack at that position again this year for the Fish. Not great, just adequet. He's far better in the back up role. Or Joe Nelson. A 33 YO reliever that has pretty much been a career minor leaguer that stuck with his dream only to excel in a Marlins uniform this year. After a much unheralded call up, he has gone 24.1 IPs with 27 Ks, 9BBs and a 1.48 ERA. To me, he's the Rodney Dangerfield of our pitching staff. As I said, I think this entire team is underapreciated. Lets not forget you are on a Marlins fan forum, so yeah, these guys are going to get a little bit more recognition here then normal. I mearly picked the guys who I thought were having incredible seasons for one reason or another, and who really haven't been recognized for it on a more national scale. I have no intent on picking a medocure player that gets absolutely no attention, from the National standpoint or from the fans, just because he may deserve a little bit of attention. I'm going to focus on the players playing great all around baseball or exceptional clutch baseball who should be in the national spotlight in Utley or Holliday fashion, but only get recognized by the Marlins fans, if that. Ross, to me, has the biggest gap right now between the level at which he is recognized, and where his recognition should be. I did miss Nelson, though, and I agree with that pick. He gets absolutely no recognition at all but is putting up some killer numbers. You and Rab both have legitimate points. But I don't see Nelson getting any love around here nor do I see him as having a mediocre season thus far. Seeing as this is an opinion thing, I'll stick to mine. No offense to either of you. Or the others that voiced their opinions. Nelson gets plenty of love like I said the other night when he gets on the mound he looks bad ass like he's about to mow you down. :thumbup
July 24, 200818 yr this may cause some controversy but im gonna say: Kevin Gregg Why? He has 6 wins, 20 saves and a 2.49 ERA. Other than a couple of bad games in Colorado he has only allowed 3 runs in June + July. And he showed great bouncebackability after Denver with 5 saves in the next week. Yes he walks too many. Yes he makes things far too nerve-wracking at times. But more often that not he does his job and that is closing out games. good post dude and nobody realize's that because he does make life dificult but he does do the job!!
July 24, 200818 yr I have to say Amezaga. I'm pretty sure any team in baseball would kill to have someone like him. He is definetly the most talented bench player right now.
July 24, 200818 yr Alfredo Amezaga, he plays great defense wherever he plays. He can play just about every position but catcher. He is a good hitter, he works counts, and makes things happen on the basepaths.
