July 25, 200817 yr Author Also, the motivation from this thread actually came from the Cubs. Playing them this weekend reminded me of Wood and Prior, and how Zambrano outlasted them all, so I thought it might be fun to do a little prognosticating of our own and see where things end up a few years from now. If I had to compare them, I'd say JJ and Volstad are probably our Prior and Wood, while Nolasco could be the Zambrano, solid but not spectacular. Also Jeff Allison, forgot about him! Josh Hamilton part deux hopefully. Too bad he can't show off in a strikeout derby or something.

That was proof that a team can kill a starter's career by rushing the hell out of him.

The only pitcher other than Nolan Ryan to have 20 strikeouts without steroid suspicions. I never feel sorry for the Cubbies though, I remember Cubs fans used to always brag Prior > Beckett because Beckett was injury prone... well we all know how that turned out

July 25, 200817 yr Good thread, welcome to the board. I've always thought JJ has ace type stuff, love the guy. If Vanden Hurk can put it all together, he could do it too. Volstad has Roy Halladay type potential, and let's not forget about Sean West - he might have the best stuff in the entire organization. It's nice that we can actually ask this type of question though. I think Vandy could be a SICK closer. I think Tucker could be a SICK closer. I think Tucker could be too good of a starter to designate him as a closer. I think Vanden Hurk could be a good starter too, though. They basically have the same problem, right now. They only have 2 pitches, really.

They also could have Renyel Pinto. Good trade by Beinfest. Awesome, really. :thumbup
July 25, 200817 yr Miller, easily. I went with Miller too, as I said, earlier. I think he has the best stuff of the group, and once he gains control, we'll have a dominant lefty starter.
July 25, 200817 yr Either A Millie or Volstud i have a bad feeling Ricky will be gone in a few years same with scotty o JJ will be good to maybe even allison hopefully and anibal would be our 5th starter
July 25, 200817 yr i would love the rotation of Miller Nolasco JJ Scotty O Volstad bullpen anibal - long relief tank-mid lindstrom-mid Joe No-Mid Pinto-SET UP Tucker- Closer but thats less likely to happen over the years

July 26, 200817 yr I picked Miller. We do have a lot of future aces though. But miller has the best stuff out of all of them, all he needs is a little control.

I just believe that the marlins FO knows how to pick good young talent when they see it, there might be a future Uggla trade for Jon Lester or Masterson in the works if things don't work out.

He's not really ace material. Clay Buccholz has all the makings of being an ace, though.
