October 29, 200322 yr No! I say if you move to Orlando you keep the name. Orlando is more Florida than Miami is! That has to be the stupidest thing I've heard all day.
October 29, 200322 yr Florida Marlins foreva! I'm usually all for alliteration, but it just wouldn't seem right to me to change their name at this point.
October 29, 200322 yr Not really! Miami is more like South Florida, but Orlando is easy for the rest of the state. If I'm not making sense, don't listen to me. But really. A team in Miami called the Florida Marlins? Yeah, it is your home team in Panama City. Like California to Anaheim!
October 29, 200322 yr Miami is just as large a symbol of Florida than Orlando. Of course Miami is a larger symbol of Florida. What's the first thing people think about Orlando? Disney World and Universal Studios (mostly Disney). What's the first thing people think about Miami? South Beach, Dolphins, Everglades, etc...
Broward and Palm Beach County are South Florida. Miami and Dade County are only part of South Florida, and a sorry part at that.
October 29, 200322 yr Yes I know that...but the MLB franchise had teal in their colors. Das, we have teal in our uni's, I don't know I don't see much of it....The Marlins are no longer know as the "men in teal" but as the men in "black and white". Loria changed the uni's because he saw teal as a "soft" color and he wanted to add more black to make the Marlins look more "tough". He changed the lettering to black,he even changed the pinstrips to black and for some got rid of the vest. I was outraged when he changed the uni's just like I would be if our name was changed to the Miami Marlins. I seriously think we should start a petition to bring the old uni's back.
October 29, 200322 yr When many think of Florida they think of Cape Canaveral as well, St. Augustine, Gulf Coast Beaches, the Keys, etc.
October 29, 200322 yr Name won't be changed. Samson said the team wasn't able to make the economics work in Broward. "We've got to become a regional team, but you've got to have your ballpark somewhere," he said. "So for anyone who thinks we're turning our back on Broward, it's just wrong, because the demographics that make the stadium work include Broward."
October 29, 200322 yr when people think of florida-they think of miami and how hot it is and the beach-thats what ppl. come here for.
October 29, 200322 yr when people think of florida-they think of miami and how hot it is and the beach-thats what ppl. come here for. I disagree, they think of Gulf Coast Beaches, Disney, Space Shuttles/NASA, the Keys, and the Palm Beaches. Miami really is nowhere near the destination for tourists that it once was. It has turned into an urban area most people are coming to Florida to escape.
October 29, 200322 yr I have thought of this a few times myself. I like the name "Miami Marlins". It's like a homage to the old Miami Marlins. Also, most of the fan base is in South Florida anyways. But here's where I find the problem... What about the fans up north? I think that if they change the name, some folks will get upset, as if their team was taken away from them. Another problem I find is that most of us grew up knowing the Marlins as the FLORIDA Marlins. It would kinda suck seeing the name change. As long as they stay here in South Fla., I am happy. :thumbup why should the fans up north care? their main concern should be for the marlins to do well and get a new stadium, not be selfish and say i won't root for a team that doesn't represent my part of the state. yes i live in south florida but if they became the Tallahasee Marlins i wouldn't care as long as there is a team in florida thats like me saying i wont root for tampa bay because i dont live there. i would root for them but i have been a marlin fan and tampa bay has never caught my attention. besides i think miami marlins has a nicer ring to it and i think it would make the jerseys and caps look better
October 29, 200322 yr The Marlins have rights to all 67 Florida counties, that's right even the 8 Tampa Bay counties. The can air games on TV and Radio in all the counties and market in them. If you change the name to Miami Marlins you would be targeting one city in one of 67 counties. If the Marlins want to be the regional franchise that Samson says, then the Florida name must stay.
October 29, 200322 yr The D-Rays will win eventually and central florida would rather go their games since they are closer. So screw them name the team Miami Marlinsif thats what it take to build the stadium. Remember if you builded they will come. Screw the fans up north huh? I'd love to see PPS next year if the Marlins start 2-6 again... can you say bandwagoners?
October 29, 200322 yr Why change the name to Miami? You have no argument. Even the Marlins admit that Broward and the rest of South Florida are needed badly in order to make ANY stadium in Miami work.
October 29, 200322 yr everyone knows the marlins play in south florida. it's not like there are fans going "Florida Marlins? where in florida do they play? orlando? jacksonville? deland?" cape i think the alliteration in miami marlins sucks too. however i must add that jacksonville jaguars works perfectly.
October 29, 200322 yr Yes I know that...but the MLB franchise had teal in their colors. Das, we have teal in our uni's, I think next season you may see more of it. The black uni looks like it has been shot down by the starting rotation. the teal in our uniforms and such is pathetic. the black is overused, every damn team uses it. i want this franchise to go back to being 'unique'
October 30, 200322 yr everyone knows the marlins play in south florida. it's not like there are fans going "Florida Marlins? where in florida do they play? orlando? jacksonville? deland?" cape i think the alliteration in miami marlins sucks too. however i must add that jacksonville jaguars works perfectly. Jacksonville Jaguars works because the syllables line up. Jack-son-ville Ja-gu-ars
October 30, 200322 yr are you allowed to have the same exact name as a fotball team? why would you want that anyways?
October 30, 200322 yr One teal uni wouldn't be bad, but the black was way overused this season. The other three unis are very nice and should be worn more. the black is the away alternate, but the pitchers choose to wear it at home.
October 30, 200322 yr little known fact: A public vote originally chose that the new baseball team's name would be..... the Florida Manatees. (Huizenga wisely disregarded the vote & changed it to Marlins)
October 30, 200322 yr I'm not sure that I'm happy with the wording of the orginal question, even less now than when I answered it this morning. The name change to Miami wasn't mentioned. But if it becomes an issue. Those of you that oppose it, is it a deal breaker? There's no option here. If Miami-Dade, City of Miami put up the money on the condition that the name becomes Miami Marlins.....Is it a deal breaker? Also would you go to fewer games because of a name change? Would you rather have the team call Portland, or N. Va., or Miami?? This, to me is a no brainer...Miami....
October 30, 200322 yr are you allowed to have the same exact name as a fotball team? why would you want that anyways? he was wondering why jax jags worked so well when alliteration for miami marlins didn't and i explained it to him. The Marlins will stay as Florida according to the articles I have read.
October 30, 200322 yr are you allowed to have the same exact name as a fotball team? why would you want that anyways? who said anything about naming them the same name? and sure you can. the st. louis cardinals used to be the name of the town's baseball team and football team.
