If the Marlins hadn't won atleast one championship up till this point, then it would mean more to change the name of the Marlins to "Miami Marlins"(much like Anaheim did with the Angels before they won their first championship). But now that the Florida Marlins have two World Championships, I think it would be better left to tradition to keep it "Florida". Of course thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. :mischief2

October 29, 200322 yr From the beginning the team was called Florida Marlins because they were supposed to be the entire state's team. If you are going to call the team Miami Marlins then dont be suprised if fans in central and north Florida get very pissed off. Not just that, but some people in Palm Beach County and even N Broward will feel a little insulted if our team is now just for 'Miami.'
October 29, 200322 yr Keep it Florida Marlins. The team belongs to Florida and was given to Miami because it was either Wayne, Disney in Orlando or Namialoi in Tampa. So Wayne opened the wallet and MLB awarded. I believe that if the Marlins actually marketed around the state with a better radio network and tv network, they would gain many more fans. BTW, Miami has more Braves fans than Fort Myers.

Mariner High in Cape Coral, FL near Fort Myers was in FLORIDA Marlins uniforms. We had some Yankees fans, but the teal wave bowled over them pretty easily. The Dolphins market here and have so many season tix holders it isn't even funny. If the Marlins marketed their Sunday flex-plans like the perfect companion to Dolphins season tixs and put more games on radio and TV out here they would gain even MORE fans.

October 29, 200322 yr The fact that I don't like the name "Miami Marlins" is that this team was never only Miami's team (specially when mostly no one in Miami-Dade gave a rats a$$ about them). This was Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach aka South Florida's team. So if there's a name change, it should be South Florida Marlins.
October 29, 200322 yr I didn't hear anything mentioned about a name change, I believe Loria told Penelas NO. It is a marketing nightmare for Loria if he moved the team downtown AND changed the name. Double insult. Leave the name, the Rangers are in Arlington, everyone knows this, so there is no reason to alienate fans by changing the name. BTW, I am 1 hour 15 minutes from Tropicana Field and am the biggest Marlins fan this side of the Pro, don't tell me I don't deserve my team because I don't live in Miami or Dade County.
October 29, 200322 yr miami marlins-it has a good ring 2 it. It doesn't sound balanced. Alliteration is supposed to be balanced and it doesn't sound that way. Mi-am-i Mar-lins Flo-ri-da Mar-lins works because it is not alliteration. FLORIDA MARLINS IS WHAT IT IS, FLORIDA MARLINS IS WHAT IT WILL BE.

Florida Marlins, why does Miami want to have everything named after the city when most people in Dade County live outside the Miami city limits? The name change is dead, if state funds are being used, no matter how little, the Florida Marlins name must be kept. Florida taxpayers will have to pay more in other areas to cover the Marlins getting their $2 million tax refund and for the state to stay on budget, so the name stays.
October 29, 200322 yr Yes I know that...but the MLB franchise had teal in their colors. Das, we have teal in our uni's, I think next season you may see more of it. The black uni looks like it has been shot down by the starting rotation.

October 29, 200322 yr Why are the Marlins now suddenly Miami's team? Where was Miami's favorite team fans when they were in the Wild Card race in the beginning of September? I don't remember seeing 40,000 in attendance in most of the August games? How about July?
